Been pondering how to get some mycetic spores for Mrs S' tyranids...
Ornamental Gourds!
Greenstuff tentacles, spray, base and drybrush. Should work out good. I read they don't rot down once dried.

That's a good idea, actually! They don't even need painting.
I suppose you have to get the pulp and seeds out, then dry them.

Forgive my ignorance, what is a gourd? a type of seed/fruit?
Great idea though.

Nope, they sell them already dried whole with the seeds still in.
Mrs S would probably paint them in the fleet colours.

I still prefer the different options I posted in your other thread:

Putting a banana on the table might save some dollars, but it still destroys the atmosphere.

Not entirely. You can use that weird string stuff on the banana to represent the tentacles coming to attack someone, it has a good shape should you take the fruit out and leave the peal downside on the table, looks like a droppod slightly AND BEST OF ALL!!!! You can eat it when it gets killed. Recycling your materials and having a snack, sounds good to me.

I helped a friend build a spore pods by gutting a cheap foam football and then cutting it in half. cost him all of $20 to make ten of the things and they looked very nid like after adding some tentacles and a coat of paint. Baring that I love the idea of making a base with a spike and just using potatoes.

It's a member of the squash family. Stuff them with cheese and leeks, good eats!

You might be able to find decorative (man-made) gourds at a craft store (like Michaels) in their floral department (used in autumn foliage arrangements and wreaths).
They may cast a little more but they won't need gutting and drying. No smell and no decomposition.
