Howdy about 3 weeks ago i decided to do a scratch build Blasta Bommer here's some pics of the development.
Pic 1 Deff arsenal
Pic 2 Support structure is made from copper pipe, wings are removable
Pic 3 Air intakes were a kit bash from a A-10 model, thankfully they were almost the perfect size, i used paper to shim it in center, i then used some tile grout to crack fill. exacto to clean excess
Pic 4 shows the main body is made from some sort of electrical coupling and a brass sink drain insert.
Pic 5 shows how the wings attach and detach from the main body

Some serious dakka there! Looking good so far, can't wait to see how it turns out. Actually, must admit the most impressive bit is the air intakes. Those things are great, nice kitbash.

Pic 6 shows one near complete wing, checkerboard pattern was from individualy crafted squares, wings were roughly framed in with plastic card. my inability to precisely bend the copper pipe to match the slope of the wings presented difficulty in that they protrude fro the framing. I intend to paint them so they look like exposed superstructure.
Pic 7 Wing attached to main body temporarily.
Pic 8 Shows my poor use of hot melt glue, intend to paint as "welds" as well the exposed pipe is showing. Missiles were fro the a-10 kit. The turbo attached under the main engine was part of the A-10 kit also.
Pic 9 shows the start of the 2nd wing

Pic 10,11 shows the beginnings of the next wing again, i did a detailed documentation of this wing in case others wanted to try my method. The main body frame was square (roughly) so i ran the plastic from the corner to the wing tip creating the "sweep' i then hacked off what i deemed to be excess past the pipes. I measured the previous wing and found it to be roughly 5 inches wide, so i cut another piece of card on the "same angle" and did the same thing.
Pic 12 Jump ahead a couple hours and the second wing is almost complete, im sure you can figure it out. Just remember the key to looking orkey is rough edges with hidden symmetry.
Pic 13 shows top down, symmetrical looking wings, each with its own unique "skin" and trailing avionics.

pic 14 jump ahead 5 hours again and now were here at framing the upper body, i used the middle of a mountain dew bottle and got super lucky, cutting it in half then one of those halves into halvess again.... made the lower levels from the smaller pieces and the upper curve from the larger half. The "Cheeks were made in a most sloppy way... frankly i glued the snot out of the edges and forced the plastic card into the curve shape and held it until it was solid (pain in the Ork hole that isn't the mouth.) Once in place i carefully cut away the considerable excess plastic and glue.
Pic 15 I placed a piece of plastic over where the orkpit was to be and traced the shape, i shaved off a few millimeters and cut it as a template. This would be the base of the orkpit i would later insert. I also decided to take the easy way out and hide the interior by creating a closed door out of the Orkpit. This pic is the rear door.
Pic 16/17/18 I knew how big the Orkpits area was going to be but i didn't know how deep it was going to be. I framed in the insert to size, I then figured the best way to find out was to build the mek pilot. Using a Meks head, AOBR chopper arms, random ork mek body (bit too small didn't have an appropriate nob) and some random legs i pieced him together. (rather sloppily) I used part of leeman Russ kit to mount the arms and then hung him inside. I filled in the front and put a glyph and some rivets. I then glued the sub floor directly to the meks feet and put a piece of scrap between the sub floor and the insert for stability. Final step was to put some plates in the floor rivet them and add the edge triangle detail.

Pic 19 Unfortunately this is where i got caught up in what i was doing getting near the end of the build, things just sorta fell together. The following pics are taken post completion. I decided to use movable ball turrets, to achieve it was easier than anticipated. Ping pong balls are pretty cheap. Using a piece of poster board i measured the size of the area to fill, cut it found center and cut a circle out 1mm smaller than the ping pong ball. i secured it in place with some paper strips, i saw it worked then repeated the process 4x with plastic card to create the ball turrets.
Pic 20/21 show the complex curves used to merge the upper "skin" back down to main body level. if i had to do it again i would not have created a ridgeline with plastic piping. Dang thing is slightly off center and it lifted at the hard point in the bend "ruining the rears astetics

Otherwise, it's a good scratchbuild.

Pic 22-25 Again unfortunately i don't have pics of the many steps taken to get near completion, in summary i built the tail by drawing it out on poster board, i then put some braces in it 1" back and put an identical piece over top. i glued the outer edges together to give it a aerofoil shape. Covered the exterior in left over plastic card. I then held it to the rear of the main body and found where it looked right. Using scrap card (thick stuff) i built a rough superstructure and then skinned it. I added structure for sliding jump doors for some storm boys to jump out of, or put door gunners undecided at this time. I was finally ready to start the under structure. I used a similar technique to how i did the upper structure, was pretty easy by this stage. Lastly i another pipe structure to use as support for when i mount it on a tripod. i fond the rough center of balance mounted it and cut holes through the sub floor. The pipes used will look like air ducts when completed. Oh yes and rivets probably 800-1000 so far and counting. Automatically Appended Next Post: 23"x24"x12" overall size

Oh for the love of little green apples...
Are you really sure it has enough guns?
BTW, if you take these plastic tube gatlings as eyes, that blasta bommer looks truly insane.

heh getting re motivated to pop another 500 rivets out from thick card tonight is not going so well Automatically Appended Next Post: Tonight i managed to get the wings riveted, base coated the entire thing with some spray on matte, then painted over it again with black in order to ensure it doesn't rub off during the upcoming painting and detailing. I will update the pics as each piece is finalized.

Well good luck man! I'll be putting a few solid hours into the Gargant that I'm working on. Only just begun with initial construction a couple of days ago so it's still in it's infancy but proving to be great fun building!
May you roll 6's when necessary!!

This thing was almost 3 feet by 3 feet, it destroyed my time and patience, in the end i threw it in the trash. I instead did a kitbash you can see here. I am happier with these results.
