hey people,
new here to the dakka dakka forum, looks like a great place to talk about all things 40K with other hobby enthausists.
lately I have started IG as my second 40K army, speed freaks being my first, cuz guardsman frankly are awesome and
let me expierence a whole new side to 40k.I made up a list so i have something to work up to. But now i just need to make sure its the list i want and have the most fun playing with, wich is what its all about

so far ive been playing pretty competitive with my speed freaks and did so pretty succesfully if i say so myself ( 5th at dutch GT 2009) and I
enjoy a bit of competive gaming. since most of the people in my gaming group are pretty competitive and i would like to give them a run for their money with my guard, i am going to need to make sure my list doesnt automaticly puts me at a huge disadvantige. and with that i wuld like to ask for your help.

I dont like cheesing out my list by only choosing the strongest units in the book and the nastiest tricks and build my list around them. id rather choose some sort of theme and try making it work as good as possible (insert nasty tricks here) whilst trying to staying within the theme.

im going for a catachen jungle list based rougly around the americans during vietnam war. full metal jacket and apocalypse now where my main insperation. so im going for lost of footslogging guard with support vechicles and airborne back up. this is what i came up with so far:

HQ (170)
Comp command squad 100
Vox, 3x gl, astropath

Comp command squad 70
Vox, 3x gl

Troops (700)
Platoon 1
Command 4X gl 50
Squad 1 auto C, gl pw 75
Squad 2 auto C, gl pw vox 80
Commissar pw 45

Platoon 2
Command 4X gl 50
Squad 1 auto C, gl pw 75
Squad 2 auto C, gl pw vox 80
Commissar pw 45

Vets 3X melta g 100
Vets 3X melta g 100

Fast attack (390)

Vendetta 130
Vendetta 130
Hellhound hf dozer 135

Heavy support (470)
2X hydra hb 150
2x hydra hb 150
LRBT las C dozer 170

Total 1730 (20 pts left)

i still have 20 pts left, dont really know what to do with these. mabey some plas pistols for the commanders, or some heavy weapons for the company command squads.

some tackits:
against deepstriking and drop pod armies ill take 2nd turn and deploy only the infantry and put the rest in reserve. theill be taking the beating of the enemy's intial strike and first 2 turns. after they lost the element of suprise my vechiles and vets ( in vendettas) come in and blast the hell out their deepstriking/ pod dropping units. " get back in the fight" order will play a mayor role in this stratergy so my units can go to ground granting them a 3+ cover save and still shoot next turn.

against hordes ill keep my hellhound and vendetta's in reserve and deploy the rest. basicly id just blasting the enemy with loads of shots and templates(18 g launchers) and when they start to get close my hellhound show's up and brings the hurt on whats the most threatning unit and the vendettas + vets can take out the far objectives and help where help is needed most.

against mecanised armies, pray i have first turn. hellhound and vendetts in reserve. blast the F*** out of the transports with everything ive got, loads of GL and autocannons and a LRBT. then the hellhound shows up to torch the embarked units, and vedetta's +vets come up and blast the enemy tanks.

plenty of troops to capture objectives (70 dudes) and some vendetts to capture those hard to reach objectives. plentry of infantry staying power with orders to help out and of course plenty of shooting. lots of killpoints though but using reserves right i think i can keep some of them save for atleast the first 2 turns.

so what do you people think. can it work? or are there some units in there that are horrible over/underequiped or have the complete wrong loadout all together.
