I do not foresee too much modeling and conversion work in this blog, mostly just painting. Not to mention it's getting a slow start with just a single picture of some aeroplanes. A poor quality one at that given my camera's out on loan to a vacationing family member so I had to resort to my phone for this photo.

Now that I've got your hopes set to a suitably low level, here's my proof of concept prototype for my tiny flier bases. Used a razor saw to cut the aeroplanes off the base, cut out a strip of plastic from a PP blister and glued the planes to it, glued that to a GW flight stand, and put that on the original base.

For the final version I'm going to see if I can get my hands on some clear plastic bases of the same size as the tiny flier tokens so the entire base is clear except for the aeroplanes themselves. Probably test painting some aeroplanes before cutting them off the base so I can avoid trying to handle those teeny things or mess with trying to not paint the clear plastic.

Still no camera, but here's a shot of my test scheme for my fleet on a Frigate. Painted the whole thing mithril silver, then washed the hull in asurman blue and the steam punky bits in gryphonne sepia. The wooden desk is done in khaki and washed devlin mud, but these deck on the frigates are hard to really see.

Behind the frigate are two more frigates, which are converted into other small ships. The one with no turrets will be used as my escorts, as they have no weapons. The one behind that will be my destroyers, which have only a front turret. It's hard to tell, but I also cut off the side torpedo tubes, as neither have side torpedoes. Any suggestions on what to do with the little flat circle on the decks where the turrets used to be?

Still crappy phone pictures (i wish I could go on a two week cruise and florida vacation... lucky camera) but I got my Escorts and Destroyers all finished and painted and wanted to put up a shot of them. With the preview pictures of the official Escorts and Destroyers put up I wanted to put more into mine than what I originally intended to make them look more like the official models.

The Escorts were cut at joints in the side funnels and had one little section removed to shorten them, again cut out and then shorten one of the boilers and chimneys, extended the fore decking back with some green stuff (not my best work, i'm better with organic than flat mechanical stuff), and some little turrets from Battlefleet Gothic added in for the AAs.

The Destroyers had their steam boilers cut out, a single chimney moved further back, one boiler laid on it's side, and then a bridge area built in between them. I'm debating on if I want to start a second unit of Destroyers, or wait for the official ones to come out.

Tested out my paint scheme colors on a set of aeroplanes, and I think it works out well enough. I've arranged to get some 40-50 3/4" little squares of clear plastic that I'll use to make clear bases for these, thus no attempt at painting the current base. Plan is to cut a micro dice sized square out of one corner, glue that onto an uncut square, use some of the clear blister plastic to make "walls" around the corner with the dice hole cut out of it, and that should give me a good means to track fuel and not lose the die. Drill holes in the front/center for the flight stand to fit into.

Second shot is a cruiser with a WIP paint job. Turret and shield generator are not glued on yet. Painting the steam punky bitz is the real time consuming part of this scheme. The model is painted silver, and the blue is a single coat of wash for a nice light tint. The bronze however requires four fairly heavy coats of the sepia, and takes awhile to dry in between coats. That cruiser's currently on the third coat. Got a shot of some frigates with a WIP paint job showing off what the sepia looks like after a single coat.

More stands of Aeroplanes than I can legally field. Pair of Recon Planes bringing up the rear of the formation.

Got my Bombers and the first Cruiser done as well.

Thats a lot of planes. Pretty cool army, this is from someone who in general hates the steampunk genre (its the punk part mainly)

These are the last phone pictures. For one, this three day painting spree has left me sick of panting for a bit, and second, I should have my camera back before the end of the week. When I do I'll see about retaking all the pictures and maybe getting a decent group shot in. Until then, here's a swarm of Frigates, all three Cruisers, and my Fleet Carrier.

Aduro I like your paint scheme, I'm a big fan of using Washes like watercolors. I'm also impressed that you've done conversions in resin at this scale, I'm loving the Tiny Fliers. I need to get working on my own Blazing Sun stuff, I want to do something similar with the Tiny Fliers as well.

"Orkses never lost a battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

I will admit the poor picture quality helps out the conversions, but the smaller scale actually helps them as well, as its the tiny details I can't replicate, but which you don't see unless you're really looking. If you actually pick up one of the Escorts, the green stuff work to extend the deck back for the second AA mount is mildly atrocious, as I'm apparently not too good with flat/mechanical surfaces yet. On the tabletop you'd never know though, and I've had one guy ask how I managed to get the new small ships already.

The tiny fliers are really pretty easy to do if you have the supplies, just time consuming. Razor saw takes them right off the base no problems. Clean the edges with a knife. Glue them lightly down to a long strip of plasticard for painting. Assemble the flight stands while paint coats are drying. Pop them off the plasticard and glue them to the flight stand. Use some GW `Ard Coat over spots where the superglue fogs up the clear plastic to get it clear again.

I'm thinking about adding in another color to my paint scheme. I didn't notice it so much with the smaller ships, but now that I've got the big ones done, the sides are too blue across the whole surface. I think I want to paint those triangle patterned support beams a different color, some kind of metal, but I'm still deciding what/how.

Those clearer pics have really brought out the highlights & shades on those things! It's a great looking scheme and the only thing I can think to suggest is to pick out the windows in nice glassy colour, or perhaps some ship markings.

I like they way you freed your tiny flyers, its different from the usual '3 black paperclips' method!

I did my aeroplane cockpits with white, maybe I'll go back thru and paint the portholes on the ships white as well. And I've been debating markings as well, though not sure on what I want to do for them.

Google british naval markings, or what about painting rank chevrons (the kind found on sleeves/shoulders of military officers) as markings, e.g. battleships have captain chevrons, cruisers lieutenant, frigates private etc?

Finally got around to doing the second stage of my aeroplane bases, that is the means of holding micro dice for a fuel counter without them falling off. Drilled a hole thru the base, glued a second base to the underside, and then dremeled the sides smooth. They gained a light fogging near the base of the stand where I used a teeny tiny drop of glue to assemble them, but it's not something you'd notice without looking at them closely.
