Hey all, just for the heck of it I thought I'd post the list I used to win my local Ard' Boyz prelim. I played in two events actually and took a 1st and a 2nd. I'm on the fence for round 2 as it has two solid counters I've encountered so far.

Anyways, the list.

Lords and Heroes, 1018 Points

Sorceror Lord of Nurgle

Favour of the Gods
Dragonhelm
Chaos Steed

Chaos Sorceror of Nurgle x3

Skull of Katam, Fury of the Blood God, Ironcurse Icon, Dispel Scroll
Chaos Steeds

Exalted Hero of Tzeentch

BSB
Charmed Shield
Warriors Bane
Talisman of Endurance

Core, 1681 Points

20 Chaos Warriors of Khorne

Halberds, Shields, Gleaming Pennant

20 Chaos Warriors of Khorne

Halberds, Shields, Flaming Banner

20 Chaos Warriors of Tzeentch

HW & Shield, Rapturous Standard

40 Marauders of Khorne

Flails

10 Marauder Horsemen of Tzeentch

HW & Shield, Spears, Light Armor

5 Chaos Warhounds, x2

Rare, 300 Points

Warshrine of Tzeentch, x 2

Basically, the list anticipated a lot of people running expensive named characters in their lists. Most of those are under-protected and die to Magnificent Buboes, the lvl 1 Lore of Nurgle spell. It casts on a 5+ and does a single wound with no armor save. So you take 4 sorcerors and put them close together so that Skull of Katam gives them all +1 to cast then fire away.

Things I sniped with Buboes over my two Ard' Boyz prelims.

3 Exalted Heroes
4 BSB's
1 General
2 lvl 4 Wizards
2 lvl 2 Wizards
2 Hell Pit Abominations (Took the last wound off each)
1 O&G special spider-rider character
1 O&G special boar-boy guy.

I got so many points in characters it was ridiculous.

The downside? Units with high magic resistance. I ran into a Teclis list that I couldnt touch. Dwarves were tough also. The match vs the HE's would have been better in any round other than the 3rd, when I got the flood result twice in a row and had to stand there and eat Lore of Heavens Chain Lightnings and Meteors all game. I also had a hard time vs a Dwarf List until I made it into combat and ate the stunties up with all the STR 5 Halberd hits.

The Marauders were a mixed bag. Depending on the enemy I either ran them 5 ranks of 8 or 8 ranks of 5. They were an outstanding Blood Soaked Choppa unit. They got the +1 attack buff from a Warshrine when they were 8 wide. 40 WS 4 STR 6 Attacks. Wowzer. I wiped a giant and a unit of Big'uns in a single combat. Their only other great moment was when they tied up an Archeaon list for 2 rounds, allowing me to surround the portal in the middle of round 3 with all 4 nurgle characters and some wardogs to keep Arch. away from the portal. (Alas, the tactic failed when we rolled a 2 and I lost 3 of the 4 sorcs, and he forced a draw with his last remaining character.)

The Marauder Horsemen of Tzeentch were a great bunker. Yea, they lost fast calv.. but they would anyways when I bunkered the sorcs there, and I typically hid behind my vast numbers of marauders on foot. It was decent cannon protection with Look out Sirs! and they were fairly survivable. (5+ vs Warmachines with Tzeentch and Ironcurse Icon, and 4+ vs spells thanks to the MR2 sorceror.) They werent a choppy unit at all, but the 4+ armor and the 7" move made a great bunker that could get my sorcs into a 24" kill range rather quickly.

I'm on the fence for using the list in Ard' Boyz 2nd round. It would be a great way to pull some extra points for dead characters, but I fear the miscast frenzy of round 1.

Thoughts?

How well does your army go without a BSB?
Wouldn't it be easy to drop a few points somewhere to upgrade you exalted hero?

I'm a new player so I can't really offer much in the way of useful advice/critique.

Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee.

Well that looks like a really solid list and it's good to see something different from the usual lvl. 4 tzeench/halberd khorne warrior/chosen tzeench build.

I assume you plan on running your wizards in the marauder horseman unit.

Seems a little risky to me as I have seen large horsemen blocks nuked in a single round.

It works out oddly enough. Their immune to the 13th, all have good MR, and tzeentch gives them all good wards and a 5+ vs warmachines.

Not too mention that regeneration is usually there, as well as a warshrine buff or two if I see them getting targeted.
