Taking a break with my IG, I started a second army project. Or, to be precise, joined one.
Knights of Draconis is a fan-made chapter started by few enthusiasts of Moscow and St. Petersburg as a knightly marines that are nowhere near your average knightly marines.
I may post the fluff here someday. Right now, I'd just point out they are separatists (think of 'good' Astral Claws), venerate a female saint and love saving civilians from rampaging zombie hordes.

All pics are WIP.

Knights of Draconis First Company.

Kay Lacitis, Commander

Sir Mortimer, (Venerable) Dreadnaught

Unnamed second Dreadnaught body

A few Terminators (missing storm shields)

Test Tactical Marine paint (bolter and shield unpainted)

And a few adversaries for the diorama base.

More zombies.

And WIP paintjobs (some parts like head and axe arm will be painted separately). Need your opinion on color scheme and the amount of weathering, I want them battle-worn but not excessively dirty.

I find the lack of comments sad.

Here's a WIP Chaplain.

I think the work on the zombies far surpasses the design of the Space Marines, but perhaps I'm biased. The idea behind the SM design is certainly solid, at least, and those are some creative choices for helmets and weapons. Something I can't quite place bugs me about the Chaplain -- even though it's a good model, it doesn't seem to stand out quite as much as the other Marines.

I dislike the colour scheme on the space marines; it looks dirty (And not weathered dirty, not washed paint from the brush dirty) and unfinished. Not really a fan of the zombies either, but thats personal gripe (zombies shouldn't be given hooks for arms, how would that help them kill things, thats my train of thought at least)

However, the conversions on the other hand are absolutely solid. The chaplain is awesome, admittedly he seems to look less chaplainesque without the skull helm, but he more than compensated for it by the ingenius use of parts that seem to mesh together seamlessly.

The Tactical Marine helmet is awesome too, gives them a real knightly look, especially when coupled with the axe and shield design. A squad of these guys would really look impressive.

The Terminators with the Men at Arms heads look...well as much as I do like the head use, it doesn't seem to blend well with the terminator bodies at all, especially the space hulk ones which are extra ornate.

The Dreadnoughts....

Wow.

What can I say? The imagery of them being almost walking shrines, what with the highly ornate cathedral style back banner totems is truly awesome, more so that they have a lot of detail, and follows your armies theme of an army following a saint.

Overall, I say this is a brilliant army idea, and whilst I feel it has some way to come, especially for the adversaries, I think once it DOES get there, it will be a truly inspiring army.

Thank you.

The painting is still WIP as I said, and I'm slowly working on making them nicer. Am really tempted to add more rust and blood splatters over the armor, giving them a look of wading through infested territory for weeks, literally knee-deep in the dead. But it's too easy to get carried away here.

Glad you like the conversions. I put a lot of love in them, grotesque and pompous Imperial decorations always impressed me yet my older armies (orks and IG) had no room for walking cathedrals.

I think the work on the zombies far surpasses the design of the Space Marines, but perhaps I'm biased.

Perhaps. Zombies are more fun to convert, and these are just 10 or so from more than 50 that lie in my bitzbox. And I do have some wicked ideas.

The Terminators with the Men at Arms heads look...well as much as I do like the head use, it doesn't seem to blend well with the terminator bodies at all, especially the space hulk ones which are extra ornate.

The sallet helmet is a reference to this: http://wolfet.co.uk/wolfmap/wolfenstein_blog_0450.jpg

Knightly and terminatory enough, no?
But I agree sallets are usually associated with lower grade infantry (though some of Empire knights in FB wear them too!), and in 40k are usually reserved for Sisters and Inquisitorial warriors. Perhaps covering the face would make them look more knightly?

Okay, here come more WIP paint shots!
Ignore the base, it haven't been worked on properly yet.

These are interesting. The Dreadnaughts look a lot like warjacks to me. The ornateness is great. My favourites actually the first guy who hasn't been painted yet. They definitely look as if they've been fighting in the dank depths of the Underhive. Out of interest whats the donor model for the Chaplain?

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.
