Yeah, I know its been done to death & I wouldn't be surprised if this gets deleted/locked for the title alone but I couldn't help myself. I started reading the HH novels, googled the possibility of a film, found several 2-3 year old threads in forums hear & there & just thought 'Why the hell not?' Ultimately, to please everybody the obvious choice would be CGI but there's something to be said for human expression & if it were to happen I think I chiseled out a pretty good list here:

"Within microseconds, the post-hypnotic implants in the subconscious portions of his brain were already running the pre-deployment checks, and the insides of his eyeballs lit up with telemetry data, weapon readiness status, fuel levels and a million other nuggets of information that would allow him to command this beautiful, wonderful Titan. Horus Lupercal: Mark Strong Ralph Fiennes (nothing wrong with Strong, but I think Fiennes would be more "subtle" in showing all sides of Horus)

Angron: Gerard Butler Tyler Mane (bigger is better)
Mortarion: Mark Strong (voice, like in Sunshine) Mickey Rourke
Roboute Guilliman: Thomas Jane needs a time maschine to get a young Paul Newman

Seconded. Couldn't think of anyone better. However now that Zweischnied brings it up Tyler Mane would probably make a much better Russ. For some reason when I thought of 'the guy who played Sabertooth I thought Liev Schreiber who is a pratt. I mean, he's Ted from Sphere. Nobody likes that guy :S

Zweischneid wrote:Horus Lupercal: Mark Strong Ralph Fiennes (nothing wrong with Strong, but I think Fiennes would be more "subtle" in showing all sides of Horus)

Yeah, but he's a little old for Horus now. And Strong just has the bitter vindictiveness I would imagine Horus to have. Plus you could use Garcia as Little Horus ;D
Zweischneid wrote:Lion El Johnson: Clive Owen Rufus Sewell (more brooding)

Oh yeah, the dude from Dark City. Agreed. Like Russ, couldn't think of anyone else, but yes. Agreed. Owen is too... complacent?
Zweischneid wrote:Fulgrim: Mathew Goode Cate Blanchett (going androgynous, "I'm not there"-style)

lol, Fulgrim as a shman! Yeah, why not? It worked in Constantine
Zweischneid wrote:Angron: Gerard Butler Tyler Mane (bigger is better)

Eeeeeh I still think Butler would be better. It's the 300 scream. Plus Mane really would make a better Russ.
Zweischneid wrote:Mortarion: Mark Strong (voice, like in Sunshine) Mickey Rourke

voice or himself? I mean come on.. Marv?
Zweischneid wrote:Roboute Guilliman: Thomas Jane needs a time maschine to get a young Paul Newman

Amen. I thought the same thing when they cast Ian McKellen as Magneto.
Zweischneid wrote:Rogal Dorn: Ed Harris Jim Carrey (cause cannot tell a lie!).. well, Ed Harris works I suppose

Yeah that's all we need. Primarch of the Imperial Fists talking with his buttcheeks
Zweischneid wrote:Ferrus Manus: Vinnie Jones it really should be the Arnie.. from about 1985

But Vinnie could bring back the bullet tooth to match his arms! lol
Zweischneid wrote:Jegjatai Khan: Ken Watanabe Donnie Yen

Ah they all look the same to me. j/k, I am a fan, but Khan would use arrows, not rope-fu ei: Iron Monkey. Plus Watanabe just looks more regal.
Zweischneid wrote:Sanguinus: Bradley Cooper Orlando Bloom (he is pretty after all)

Bloom should be suspended from movies for at least 10 years. I see an actor on a teenie poster in walmart = suspension
Zweischneid wrote:Konrad Curze: Zachary Quinto Christian Bale (cause.. well.. he's Batman)

He is Batman. But Curze needs to look evil.
Zweischneid wrote:Leman Russ: Hugh Jackman Russel Crowe
Either him or Mane would be good IMO
Zweischneid wrote:Corax: Wes Bentley Cillian Murphy

Yeah, I'd agree with that. What is Corax's story anyway? nvm, I'll google it
Zweischneid wrote:Perturabo: Til Schweiger Mads Mikkelsen

But Stgilets man! Stiglets!
Zweischneid wrote:Alpharius Omegon: Sean Pertwee Andy Serkis (mix a bit of Ian Dury with Gollum-style-shizophrenia)

lol wut? The singer? Oh, Serkis. Guy was born on 420, I'm sold.
Zweischneid wrote:Vulkan: Michael Clark Duncuan Was Vulkan that huge? Jamie Foxx perhaps. Or Forest Whitaker for more ambiguity.

Prolly not. How bout Djimon Hounsou? Accent might be too thick though.
Zweischneid wrote:Magnus: Sam Neill Ron Perlman

Nah, not 'old & wise' sounding enough.
Zweischneid wrote:Lorgar: Jason Isaacs Casey Affleck

Naaaaahhh. Plus Isaacs would kind of match Dance for the whole same geneseed thing. They look kinda similar.

bob the heretic wrote:But if there be real HH movie I would leave the list....Maybe I would change some parts.

Verulam Moy: Ian Mckellen

Was Moy that old??
bob the heretic wrote:Saul Tarvitz: David Wenham

That'd work.
bob the heretic wrote:Magnus: Christopher Lee

Too old, too evil.
bob the heretic wrote:Amendra Kendel: Cate Blanchet

Not stoic enough.
bob the heretic wrote:Lucius: MUST be Jason Issac! He is amazeing at playing villians.

Dono. Not young/pretty enough. He is an Emperor's children after all. Been watching Game of Thrones lately & I can totally see Coster-Waldau betraying his chapter.
bob the heretic wrote:Eidololan or Logar: must be Christoph Waltz!

I''m sayin! "That's a bingoooo!"
bob the heretic wrote:Garro: Gary Oldman

Weaving is once again, more stoic.

meh.

Two things here...

1 - All primarch are that huge. They are physically to Space Marine what Space Marine are to normal people... so you're probably looking at around 10' feet (if not more) in full battle garb. Odds are CGI or other tricks would need to be used for all primach/SM actor to be as massive as they're supposed to be.

2 - Vulkan isn't actually black in the 'african american' sense - the original color of the actor doesn't matter one bit to be honest, since CGI and/or make up would have to be used to make the guy have pitch black skin and red eyes anyway. So while I'm not saying a black actor couldn't play the part, limiting yourself to black actor is a bit silly.

Two things.

1. The entire cast is playing primarchs. So if you cast Michael Clark Duncan as Vulkan next to guys like Ed Harris or whoever as also Primarchs, you're implying that Vulkan stood massively over even the other Primarchs, Angron, Russ, Magnus, Horus, the lot of them.

2. It'll be a movie right? Than it'll need an African American (or African) and it'll be Vulkan. Plenty of Salamander-interpretations have gone with the African(-American) route which is alot less silly than the wanna-be-Drizzt-route.

Okay, okay last time I'll resurrect this cuz I know it's a moot point since this movie will never happen, but IF it did. I finished the list.
Zweischneid, you have a point. A few actually. Vulkan doesn't have to be african-american. He could be anyone with onyx black skin. Going on the Salamander's bg fluff I guess he could be anyone who looks like a.. blacksmith?
And as far as the size difference, yeah CGI can take care of that. Look at 300 :/

Anyway, here's what I have so far. Obviously there are going to be more characters since I'm only still on book 4 of 8, but whatever; WIP. Hey, maybe I'll keep nitpicking away at this list until I finish the books & by that time I'll have a job out in hollyweird writing screenplays. I guy can dream right?

Finished list so far complete with references:
