So i'm starting a slightly fluffy space marine force and thought i'd run my roster past the community before i spent any gold pieces!!
The Chaplain is a missionary who was drafted in to 'clean up' and convert parts of an underhive to the way of the Emperor. He converted(and killed) a lot of gang members many of whom went on to become IG, SM, SoB and other Imperial staff. After this and much more service to mankind he was given a ship and he took those he had converted as crew and warriors. He ventures between planets converting humans and ergo building his army to fight those who appose the Emperor because; "The maelstrom of battle is the only true place of worship for a Space Marine and the slaughter of foes the truest offering." - Codex: Space Marines, p58.
HQ:
Space Marine Chaplain - 100pts
Troops:
8 Man Tactical Squad -138pts
5 Man Scout Squad/Telion/Missile Launcher/3 Snipers - 147pts
Heavy Support:
Vindicator - 115pts
Total: 500pts
What do you all think?

Two very good points!!
How about 'Azrael's Disciples' as a name? 'Azrael' being the Chaplain's name.
Paint scheme-wise the Chaplain will be pretty much normal and the troops will be an inverted version with bleached bone armour and black trim. To tie the army together they will all have tabards/robes in an orange/brown monk robe colour. The sergeants will have black helmets to help them stand out.
Hopefully this information will help to make sense of some of my army list choices although i am still open to changes. Does anyone have any suggestions/criticisms concerning the army list?

My point is Hordes will stomp you flat. I out number you 3-1 on my Ork list and I have a Boomgun. Tellion is a nice touch though. I would say drop some.Marines for some heavy weapons. A vanilla Marine squad wont do much.

Interesting point. Thanks i think Telion is going to do some serious damage and if need be he can lend his BS to the Missile Launcher. Only Marine squads numbering 10 can upgrade their weapons and i maxed out on points at 8 Marines. Would you say the Vindicator and Missile Launcher isn't enough fire power? I guess i sort of agree...
Dropping the Marines for Scouts with better weapons comes to mind first but i think this would be suicide. Although... Here's an idea;
Space Marine Chaplain - 100pts
Troops:
5 Man Tactical Squad/Razorback(Hunter-Killer Missile) -140pts
5 Man Scout Squad/Telion/Missile Launcher/3 Snipers - 147pts
Heavy Support:
Vindicator - 115pts
Total: 502pts
Does a Twin-Linked Heavy Bolter and a one use Krak Missile change anything? Automatically Appended Next Post: Okay so can my Chaplain arrive on the board in the Razorback with the Tactical Squad? If so how would deployment go?
1. Razorback(Chaplain and Tactical Squad Inside).
2. Vindicator.
INFILTRATORS
3. Scout Squad.
If thats all possible and no-one has any other issues with this list then i think i'm ready!!

Hmm you need to shave off 2P.
The Razorback is a Good idea but costly. They come in pairs. Im not sold on the Vindicator. Yes its powerful but Its short range not that its a problem at this points cost.
I work my lists with mathammer if you can take out 10 boyz and a tank a turn then the list is good.
And IMO if your taking a Razorback it needs a Assault cannon. That a they come in pairs.
To be honest I dont know what much too do. Its themed and I have experience with BA not SM ideally I would say ramp up the. Points and go for a triple vindicator. Lethal and fun. Dont know if thats fluffy though.

I plan on using the vindicator to support the Razorback Marines. Don't you think this will make it effective?

With the Infiltrated Scouts already in position and the tanks rushing to support i THINK i could take down that many, what do you think?
And IMO if your taking a Razorback it needs a Assault cannon. That a they come in pairs.
If i dropped the Camo Cloaks, the Missile Launcher and the Hunter-Killer Missile, i'd still be 5 points short for an Assault Cannon. Anywhere else i can shave points?

It doesn't have to be too fluffy, the main fluff is the Chaplain and i like Telion but thats not really fluff. I will most likely add at least one more Vindicator when i increase the points but i'm starting with 500points so that out of the question.
What is your opinion on deployment?

Vindicators would become the biggest AT magnet on the table at this points level. Your opponent might have infiltrators of their own to pop rear armor shots on your vindi. Much like InquisitorVaron, I'm not so sold on it as well since you might only be getting 1 or 2 demolisher cannon shots off with it. You might want a lot more bodies since this list has only 13 models including vehicles.

Personally I would keep the scouts the same. Keep the Razorback and drop the hunter killer. Watch out for AT. You lose the Razorback and it's going to be tough.
I was thinking this would be better with a BA codex.

Okay guys thanks for the input! After a lot of thought i am going to ignore reason and keep this list:
HQ:
Space Marine Chaplain - 100pts
Troops:
5 Man Tactical Squad/Razorback(Hunter-Killer Missile) -140pts
5 Man Scout Squad/Telion/Missile Launcher/3 Snipers/4 Camo Cloaks - 147pts
Heavy Support:
Vindicator - 115pts
Total: 502pts
If someone isn't happy with the 2 points over i'll remove the 4 Camo Cloaks and give the Chappy Melta Bombs.
It has it's faults but when i increase the points i'll go for infantry. It's all about having fun anyway i'm not trying to make the best 500 point list ever!
Thanks again!

Have you thought about a predator with autocannon and heavy bolter sponsons instead of the vindicator. At 500 point lv you wont see much if anything that needs a str 10 template to kill.

Yeh you are right there, i think the Predator would be a better choice now i see how cheap it is in points. However i think i'm gona have more fun with a Vindicator and thats just as big a part of it!
Stormcallers wrote:i'm pretty sure if you have tellion you dont need camo cloaks, as he gives his squad infiltration. check me on this but that would free you up some points right there.
Scouts have infiltration as standard. Camo Cloaks confer Stealth to a unit. Telion comes with Stealth so i figure there was no point in buying a Camo Cloak for him as well. He gives them Stealth? So;
HQ:
Space Marine Chaplain - 100pts
Troops:
5 Man Tactical Squad/Razorback(Hunter-Killer Missile) -140pts
5 Man Scout Squad/Telion/Missile Launcher/3 Snipers - 135pts
Heavy Support:
Vindicator/Siege Shield - 125pts
Total: 500pts
I really like the Vindicator now, i'm going to make it fluffy.

Hadn't thought about the list for a while. Searth, thanks you got me looking at it again.
I think this might be a better list:
HQ:
Chaplain/Melta Bombs - 105pts
Troops:
Tactical Squad(x10): Flamer/Missile Launcher/Sergeant Chainsword - 170pts
+Razorback/Twin-Linked Assault Cannon - 75pts
Scouts(x5): Sniper Rifles/Missile Launcher/4 Camo Cloaks/Telion - 147pts
It's not packing very heavy but it's a more serviceable list... i think?
I guess if i went to 750pts, i'd take a devastator squad with 5 Missile Launchers but thats for another day...
I would deploy the Tactical Squad using Combat Squad rules. The Flamer and Sergeant would go in the Razorback with the Chaplain. The others with the Missile Launcher would go it alone.
What do people think? Is this better?

Everyone is saying this on this particular thread but a quick search online shows up many similar threads. The evidence seems to point to the fact that he doesn't. The rules do not suggest that stealth as given by an independent character to a unit. Until i can get proof backed by GW i'm keeping them in to be safe.

HQ
Chaplain: Melta Bombs - 105pts
Troops
Tacticals(x10): Flamer/Missile Launcher/Sergeant Chainsword - 170pts
+Razorback: Twin-Linked Assault Cannon - 75pts
Scouts(x5): Telion/3 Sniper Rifles/Missile Launcher/4 Camo Cloaks - 147pts

497pts
HQ
Chaplain: - 100pts

Tacticals(x5): - 90pts

Scouts(x5): Telion/3 Sniper Rifles/Missile Launcher/4 Camo Cloaks - 147pts
Heavy Support
Vindicator: - 115pts
Total

Is there anyway to drop the vindicator for something else? If you could get a regular predator with bolter sponsons, I feel like that would be able to give you more fire support than a single template a round. If it fits your fluff better, then YMDC.
