So, I've messed around a lot as to how to paint my winter Cadians. I've got a tentative general scheme, but I'd like some feedback and advice on it. Right now im using solid white for the armor plates, and Codex Gray, followed by a wash of Devlan Mud, with a final highlight of Fortress Gray. I'm not quite sure if it "pops" quite as much as I'd like it to, however. I'd prefer to stick to grays and whites, I don't really like blue in winter camo. I've been wondering about maybe splattering them with "mud" by putting a darker brown on a toothbrush and flicking it up against their legs and boots, but I feel like that would look funny once I finish them off with solid white snow flock on the base. And what color do you think I should paint the gun?

This is kind of a "rough draft" so to speak of them, I didn't bother with touching them up or anything since I'm not really sure if this is what I'm settling on for a color scheme. I kind of just wanted to test it out and get some feedback.

And I have yet to show my Leman Russ to anybody, so here it is

I really like the look of that tank. Mind if I ask how you got that effect and what paints are used?

It's actually very easy- I basecoated it black, drybrushed it heavily with Scorched Brown, and then "sponged" it with Skull White. I used one of those foam squares that comes in a blister pack and dipped it in the paint, wiped the excess off, and did it to the whole tank, leaving more brown towards the treads to make it look muddier there.

I really like the tank.
Maybe for a gun have it be the regular green, but dry brush it white so it looks like they just painted their gun.
What they do in real life for gun camo is they paint it white, with greyish green blotches and strips. Or wrap their guns in bandage or something, sort of like a Ghillie Gun.

Thanks! That might work, it would definitely add some color to the scheme. What do you think of the rest of the scheme?

I think it looks great. Personally I'd make the clothing camoflaged, but it's your call, the grey looks great too.

I just tried something (actually trying some outlandish idea to make rust, in another thread here). Qouting myself from that thread

johnmclane wrote:tried to mix pva and normal table salt just now... and the result was a bit unexpected.

first, little glue, much salt:
First the salt absorbed the pva, making it lumpy. I wanted to be able to paint with it so ...

I added more glue, and I promise... that pva turned hard as fast as supeglue. I could lift the whole thing off and it looked very much like snow.

Managed to get some stuck on the tracks of a landraider, so I'll just wait to see if it'll stick properly.
Also saved the old whiskeybox lid I mixed everything in to see if the salt will dissolve or mess up the pva in some way.
If everything works out I've atleast worked out a way to make snow for bases .?

Yeah, I'm thinking I'll mix some of that into the sides of the tank above the treads and on the treads themselves of the next Leman Russ I paint. One Russ down, 3 more to go...

Your tank looks fantastic. I'm neither here nor there on the Guardsman, but the tank is excellent.

Thanks. That's exactly why I'm not sure about the color scheme...
