Day 1: GW Los Angeles Battle Bunker
Arrived @ 1 PM. March moved with army case through six tables of people playing 40k looking for a fantasy opponent. Finally ran across four guys doing a 2v2 game at 500+800ish per side. Dark Elves and Old Book TK (wtf?) Vs. Lizardmen and Empire. No one had more than 1000 points on hand and my request to "Play against all of you with everything you have" was politely declined. Sat down and painted while discussing the merits of Rhinox being added to the next OK book for 7 hours until the store closed.
Result- Major Victory for GW as I spent $90 there while piddling my day away.
Day 2: Was inbound to my local store where allegedly there were 2 games going on. Models were not faring well in the car... My Lord of Change suffered when I rolled a 1 on an initiative test going over a speed bump and lost his Staff of Tommorow and both heads. As I was trying to crazy glue him together without damaging my leather seats a call came in from my g/f asking to come eat with her at work (her company was picking up the tab since she had to work a weekend.) By the time I got to the store the four were fully locked into the midgame and the store was technically about an hour from closing... So no game there.
Result- Minor Victory for the speedbump
Day 3: Went to my local store almost as soon as it opened. It was Warmachine day so apparently none of the regulars showed with their armies. I was told to come back tommorow as there are three guys who are "always there" and play fantasy. A quick call to the other local store and the Battle Bunker turned up zero fantasy players.
Result- Major victory for whoever makes Warmachine
Day 4 (Today): Went to my local store seeking these "regulars." None showed by 3:15. After 4 hours of bitching about Matt Ward and fending off requests to play 40k with Spacedaemons my g/f called and requested that we go out to lunch. Since the Battle Bunker was closed and the store closed at 6 I did not return.
Result- Minor victory for our relationship
...I've spent several hundred dollars building this army, countless hours painting it, and now almost every day off for almost a month trying to get a game to practice for 'Ard Boyz. I've never played this army before, and my 8th edition experience is limited to 3 rounds at the preliminaries and an equal number of odd games with my old orcs. Does no one play this damned game since 7th came out? Can I at least hope that many of my opponents will have a similar lack of tabletop experience? I've been reduced to drawing games out on paper and rolling dice for both sides. Now I work every day until the semi-finals...

Wow thats some hard luck... I've seen tons of people starting WHFB on these boards (myself included) maybe your area is just not that great for it? I know mine is not as big into WHFB as it is into WH40K so games are harder to find.. or don't get out enough, which is totally possible.
Also I have a feeling you could have won Day2 had the speed bump not chosen Lore of Metal to so easily wound your metal figure.

This made me laugh and cry at the same time. I feel for you dude, i havent been able to play a game for years (fair enough ive been at uni but stil...) due to a lack of players where im from. There does seem to be a lot of people starting recently so maybe just bad luck? Maybe try the 'Find a Game' Forum? Anyway, good luck finding a game and good luck for 'Ard Boyz

Nice. +1 chuckle from me. Game seems pretty healthy from where I'm sitting, but I know these things are regional...

Yay, Los Angeles. I haven't been there in a bit cuz it's not Los Angeles--except LA county. It's a nice store but everyone smells bad.

+ 1 lol.
Tough luck man. I imagine that the competition at the semi finals in California is actually going to be pretty steep, especially since you only have 1 location for the whole state and there are a lot of players in California.
I know my best friend is going with Skaven (he got 1st at his prelims). And he called and said at least 12 others are showing up (not a lot for such a populous state).
But good luck man. Try to get some games in this week. I'm getting mine in after work and fortunately my fiance is very supportive of my gaming lol.

Excellent battle report, amongst the best I've seen, although we could've done with some diagrams or photos to help us see exactly what was going on. The Devil is in the details
What did you and your girlfriend have for lunch when the company picked up the tab, for instance? Lobster, I hope.

It has been my experience that many of the stores have a strong smell of Poindextrose. I live near a GW shop that happens to be near a movie theater and several decent restaurants. One day while waiting with my wife for a movie to start I jokingly said "Hey, let's go play Warhammer while we wait, we can use their demo set". Surprisingly she said yes (she's not a gaming person). It was my poor luck that the GW store was running a store tournament and was packed to the gills with gamers with variously contemptuous opinions of personal hygiene. Even though I generally think of these people as my 'tribe', I couldn't stay in there very long, my wife lasted about 2 minutes.
