I posted this in another forum, although it was commented that it probably deserved it's own thread, so here goes;

Basically, GW have decided that starting soon, nobody and that means absolutely nobody, other than the guys who deal with the products etc, will know what is in the pipework or being released until 1 WEEK before it's actual release date. There will no longer be any incoming emails or the like, apparently the first that anyone will know of anything will be on the back page of WD. Which looks like releases will be tied into the same day that WD is released bearing in mind that subscribers get it around a week early.

Now before you all post pictures of salt cellars etc, I shall tell you where I heard this info. Today GW held it's National Managers Meeting at GW HQ in Nottingham, and the source of this was actually present at the meeting. So bearing in mind it came from the head honchos at GW, and was announced to each and every member of GW management from across the country, please refrain from the salt jokes please.

Obviously it's early days, and I really don't know how I feel about this, but I guess we'll see in due course.

What do you guys think?

Well, I should refrain from this sort of behaviour on a public forum, thanks. - insaniak.

This is the most stupid thing I have ever head in the history of ever. These men need to go into Marketing 101 again and again until they realize that their heads are so far stuck up their own asses that they can drink their stomach acid.

I say this because of course, 1 WEEK?!?! WHAT THE HELL, GW? I knew you were insane, but this? WHY!??! It's called Pre-Order, GW. You have killed it. Taken it outside and put a bullet into it's cerebral cortex. Never mind the fact that there is no release schedule, and that there is no Advertising. Black Boxes? GONE. Nada. Zilch.

Imma go play some Malifaux. Bye, GW. See you in hell.

It certainly sounds like a GW move.

I've never understood their need for secrecy. In a field where you have to keep things under wraps so your competition doesn't jump the gun on you, it's understandable.

But Privateer are hardly going to jump in with a Space Marine release to pip GW at the post.

While there was a certain amount of logic to the 6-month 'window' (the 'official' explanation being that they didn't want people getting excited too far out, when release dates may change and cause disapointment) the extreme secrecy of the last couple of years is just confusing.

I think that's dumb as hell. I don't understand their not wanting people to be excited about upcoming releases. Yeah, I guess they are planning on impulse buyers getting their release of the month, but I'd like to know if that is actually a sound strategy. When I see sneak peaks of Diablo 3, it doesn't make me NOT want to buy Starcraft 2.

There seems to be more and more questionable decisions from GW nowadays. This doesn’t bode well for the hobby in my opinion.

Like others I think it is stupid....

BUT

Think about it....from GW stand point....

Now people will have to come into GW stores more often to see what is new and forth coming....and might end up buying something while there...

They may think it'll drive traffic into the store & increase WD subscriptions...

Hahahahaha No it won't.

It will make more people quit, due to the fact that GW has now made a game show called "Guess the Next Army!" Where all the answers are wrong.

My bet, I'll give this plan about a year.

Can you imagine trying to build an army without knowing if a model that is integeral to your style of play will, or ever, come out? Ask any Tyranid player or Space Wolf Player, they are running lists they don't want to because there simply isn't the model for them! If this is true, and since the whole southern hemisphere incident I won't put anything past them, they've flipped off the community, three times.

Well Gee GW can you at-least take me out to dinner first? I like to be wined and dined before I get F !

That would be really cool...if there was a store around here anymore. Driving to NYC for 3 hours (if there is no traffic) to see if there are any new releases? Not supporting my LGS and buying there? Haha I'm not going to do it, and I'm sure there are a lot of people in the same predicament.

Can someone please pass the salt? I'm all out here.

Just this year they have really upped the ante on cranking out releases and I have gotten e-mails about all of them.

This is bull.

The GW way of trying to build anticipation for new releases has officially become laughable. Why in the hell would I want to play a game in which I don't know what's coming out next untill 7 days before the release? Just wow, not one, but two bonehead moves this week and it's only Monday?

Well, hey, let's think about this.

All the Cronus/Talos models people have been drooling over (me included) for the past week or so? We'd have no idea they even existed at this point.

Did you read the original post??

Unless Kirby and the GW bigwigs thought it highly amusing to announce said changes to their Managers who in turn were to inform it to their staff, then this is definitely not bull.

Believe what you want, but this ISN'T just some rumour from a random bloke who overheard something in Bugmans Bar.

This was ANNOUNCED in the GW annual National Managers Meeting.

I don't know about you, but I tend to hold this in pretty high regard.

Wow this is pretty stupid of GW, no advertising huh i loved knowing what was going to come out months before release because it actually made me excited about something upcoming knowing nothing will be disappointing, Having a week before something comes out praying and hoping it will be the rest of the space wolves or some dark eldar just to be disappointed by a lord of the rings release or something nobody wants. If they think it will bring more traffic from me they are dead wrong i have to travel 2 hours across the city just to get some fething paint...i dont think so

Oh well lets see how they make me quit this hobby and move onto something better..if only their models didn't look so damn nice.

I think that although I'm an enthusiast, I'm not a GW apologist. I disagreed with their previous stance in terms of keeping the launches under wraps for awhile because I felt that I understood its value based on my own hobby purchasing principles which are as follows:

I have a nearly pathological need to keep some kind of new project going. So for instance I bought a bunch of dark eldar. At this time had I known that one of my favorite armies was coming down the line (maybe I simply wasn't up on my rumor mill at the time) in the Grey Knights I wouldn't have bought the dark eldar. However now that I'd already bought my dark eldar, I had no intention of passing up my beloved grey knights. Therefore I spent more money. Curse you GW.. curse you. I think many of us may do things similarly and therefore it was sort of a cunning little evil plan.

Cracking down to a one week time frame is probably their hope to further this same idea. Sell them on something new knowing that they won't skip their favorite army rather than allowing us to horde our money and hold out for what we would prefer a year from now. It's a dumb plan. You need time to sell the excitement of a new army. More importantly you need time to let us buy items in our excitement without wanting to wait a month for the codex. I'm never pre-ordering anything ever again. I'm talking about a line in the sand.. In the words of the dude.. this aggression will not stand.

Um... whether they announce that they're releasing the new Space Marine Attack Widget 1 week before release, or 6 months before release, you'll still only need to visit the store once to find out about it.

Meh. I'm indifferent to this. I already have the armies I want to do outside of Forgeworld. It doesn't affect me in the long run and I don't expect it to anytime as I'm on a personal moratorium on spending (Parent is ill). Sucks for the store staff because the company has been purposefully lying to them about several things (like the resin stuff) and this really isn't the kind of economy for price increases.
