I do like it better with the black wash, and the eyes are very nice.

The thing that is catching my eye are the bases. I'm all about going simplistic, but I think you'd be better off going with some scorched static grass or something along those lines. As it stands now, you've got pretty good models on not-so-good-at-all bases, which really hurt the presentation.
