I wanted to collect some of the shiny new Grey Knights - except, I didn't quite like the shiny part. I've never really liked the pure metal look of them, so I decided to create my own colour scheme.

Below are the fruits of my labour - my goal was tabletop quality and I'm quite happy with the results.

Note: The bases aren't actually done yet; you'll see a mix of them as I was trying a few ideas out

Note 2: Please excuse the pictures; I'm still getting the hang of taking mini photos.

Note 3: Yes, some of the barrels aren't drilled out, I'm aware.

Hi!

Pictures are fine imo
You've done a great job on these guys, although I would move away from drybrushing if I were you. These models show you've got talent but the technique you're using is letting you down

A good substitute for drybrushing is using layers and higlights. These give you a cleaner look and make the colors more realistic.

Unfortunately it doesn't work so well with metallics.. For those I recommend washes (in any color of your preference, although Badab Black works best imo).

I hope that was usefull! Please show us more if you can!

Haha, thanks - I admit I drybrush because I'm a lazy painter. These guys are actually primed with Krylon Grey and then given a heavy black wash, then drybrushed.

I have another squad I'm assembling now, I might try proper highlights on that one.

Nice work man! I am diggin the black wash style, they have a grim feel to them that seems to flow nicely all around with the model and colors you picked.

Nice tabletop quality.

The drybrush might disturb the bigger picture if seen close up, but I doubt it would be much of a problem on the table.

Considering how clean and detailed the rest of work is I´d say the drybrush is excuseable for a TT quality mini

I like the drybrushing on the GKs, when it's combined with blocks of colour [like the red] I think it looks great. Plus you're gonna get a fully painted army in no time, which always looks better than unpained plastic [not that these are bad, they're great]. IMO it doesn't look so good on the assassin cuz they're not wearing metal armour.

Thanks all, just a note on the assassin: I had a black metal paint from Reaper that I put on the raised areas of his suit; I thought the effect would create a shine, but looking at it now in that light; it does look like he's wearing metal lol. Once I get the rest of the army done, I'll probably go back and do him in a more traditional job - matte seal him and then selectively gloss seal a few areas.

I'll post pics of the next squad which I intend to try highlighting; then I'll figure out which I prefer more.
