Here's the first 4 finished. I've tried several different skin tones mixing gretchin green with sunburst yellow, bleached bone and skull white with a mixture of different washes.

How are they looking? Any pointers?

Anyone have a favourite skin tone?

I like them! Loving the varied tones. If I had to say I like the two lighter ones (shooting poses).

One thing: try Dark Flesh and Red gore for the blood on the weapons, that red is too pink for blood.

Ty sir. I did use some red gore but I think I bumped it up with blood red a bit too much. I need to get me some dark flesh so I know what my next paint purchase is

Not keen on the yellowish skin tone, the others all look fine to me, and close enough to use a mixture of them if you want to.

I'm actually liking the yellowish skin tones. Grots are supposed to be the lightest skinned orks and weakly and pale in contrast to the Boyz, so it seems to fit that place!

Well done on them all though, gonna try my hand at a couple tonight from your inspiration!

True, GW fluff is that grots are lighter-skinned, and the bigger and badder an ork is, the darker skinned it is.

Whoopty does need to consider that fluff, either to follow it or ignore it - I've always chosen to ignore it.

For the blood, tamiya clear red, if you can get it, is absolutely outstanding.

I agree, i really like that color youve acheived on the lighter grots.

They look good. I painted some grots last week, using a method someone else here recommended, if you're in an experimenting mood.

1.) Prime white
2.) Paint skin with Thraka green wash. Repeat once.
3.) Paint the rest of them as normal.

It gives them a nice tone on the muscles, and you can use less or more wash to vary the effect. I did the ork in a basecoat of Orkhide shade, then blended up to Goblin Green and washed with Thraka green. He is much darker then I would normally do, but that was intentional: I figured spending all day around Gretchin has got to make you mighty green as an Ork.

Well that would be a very different way to how I've been doing it. I might have to give that a try.

Normally I go:

Prime chaos black
Gretchin green basecoat
Devlan mud Wash
Re-base with gretchin green
2-3 layers of decreasing size of gretchin green mix (yellow, white, or bleached gone)
Highlights
Thinned devlan mud wash

I know what you mean, but since its still based around gretchin green, I think I'm close enough, even with a yellow tinge

I like the dual wielding pistol color. How did you get at that?

That was actually the most simple. If I remember correctly, it was black undercoat, gretchin green basecoat, badab black wash, second gretchin green coat (encroaching a little at the edges) followed by a devlan mud wash. Possibly a third coat of gretchin green... but not sure.

I've got myself a squad of grots that you might find interesting. I like the darkest grot skintone, by the way. I think that's the one with the ninja mask

Oh wow they should be a hero squad. Like... Movie Gretchins or something.

Those look closer to a lighter ork green than the gretchin green I've been using. Might have to throw one of them in the mix too, keep the squad looking interesting
