The devabot hasn't changed though. It's exactly the same as always. I like the bot, but that's a matter of taste of course.

Ah, my bad.

Still though, I think those models would look akward in an Aleph army, since (most of) their miniatures are really awesome looking.

The devabot is probably the same, but they could still fix it in terms of model splits. They definitely change up how they break apart models for molding and casting such that it's not a pain to put together, and keep together, certain parts. The devabot's arms, for example, or held on by tiny connecting spots.

I recall Dakini Tacbots were slated to get that treatment, with things like their flimsy shoulder and shin plates getting combined, as it should have been from the start.

After staring unblinkingly at that Scylla for too long, I can confirm that the head with its boxy shape (perhaps due to the glasses) makes this a great throwback to earlier Infinity models.

There's been real damage to the community and growth of the game from this though. We're near half a year from the start of this edition change, and only now are the much needed updates to old rules only being hinted at, rather than releasing.

Actually: No. And I am judging here purely from the sales of quite some european distributors. Main problem these days is getting enough stuff to supply the gamers.

HS:
They made it clear from the beginning that both expansions won´t be invalidated and they kept the promise. You can use them together with the PDF and you got all you need. It is btw quite normal to update a book when stocks run low, which should be the case with both books. Bringing HS up to date to N3 is the standard, everything else would be stupid. They also told us from the beginning that they want to keep core rules and expansions separate books. So there was never a reason to assume that the expansions would be included in N3. Btw Acheron Falls would have made any inclusion useless. The standard is: Core rules in Core book and extended rules in the expansions. The way some gamers suggested it would have been: Some extended rules in core book and AF again seperate. The way they do it it is quite fine. You now got the core rules in core book and all the extended rules in all the expansions. That´s what they always said and the rest was rather wishlisting from gamers.

Regarding some sectorials, it looks like some are rotated out from HS and some newer ones ar rotated in HS. Probably it will be the other way arround with Paradiso. That´s quite an elegant way and gives them more time for playtesting the more problematic sectorials. You will still be able to use the rotated out sectorials but don`t expect them to be that competetive.

This is transition time and one year is quite normal for any TT... I better do not recall 40K, where it took us sometimes 11 years for a transition of all rules.

Another little scenery pack.
Perhaps another starter box a la Operation: Icestorm?
Please yes.

Spot on.
I don't see the community hurting that bad from here. The popularity of the game has exploded since Icestorm. We all saw their growth history since CP. Be patient folks.
CB hasn't done anything different from that they said. Core Rules, HS, CP are intended to be the modular 3 parts to their universe for now. They replaced the core rules in N3. As Carlos said, N3 does not invalidate HS. That never meant they would leave that expansion to rot and move on to AF immediately after.
If CB was truly as dastardly as some make them out to be, they would also do a re-release of CP after revising HS. We'd all run out to obediently buy that a year or more later. Instead they're rolling them into one.
We'll have a tighter polished foundation to build on when the time comes to expand even further with AF.

So, that scenery is exactly the same but with a different color/pattern on it? Can't say that I'm impressed with that.

The first one was cheap, so it that stays then at least it's something.

I like the change of colour scheme for this set, but the mat is the same odd Mototronica size.

Which is great for playing Icestorm missions, but once they're done, you're onto 4'x4' tables - the Mototronica mat becomes useless at this point.

So, if you're playing Icestorm, you have the scenery already and you don't need this set.

Does that mean that there's a new introductory set on its way? Presumably, Aleph vs. something (CA?).

Is this Bostria's big reveal at the BoW Bootcamp? Is this why the attendees have been given the choice of old box sets? A Bootcamp would be the right place to start people on a new introductory set...

Where are the real life Bao troops when you want to get some answers out of people?!

As someone who played for some time without these packs (and without a lot of the MDF terrain that is commonplace now actually!) I can't say just how important these packs are.

Terrain is the big barrier to entry for Infinity and was a big stumbling block in the early years of the game, while these packs aren't perfect (and even a perfunctory MDF or plastic set will look better) they're a cracking starting point just to get going with the game straight away.

Terrain isn't that big of a barrier, provided you weren't playing previous wargames on barren wastelands.

What was a "big stumbling block in the early years of the game" was that there was no real input given for how much terrain should be put on the table for certain points values. What inevitably would happen is one or two sniper nests that became critical for deployment and huge hallways of death or no fire lanes because there's too much LOS blocking terrain and it gave a huge advantage to CC lists.

Oh hey! It was a scenery pack after all which was teased in that preview. The fact that they've announced the scenery pack alone probably invalidates the rumors of a starter box.

My memories of early days of second edition was that lack of terrain on sale was the biggest complaint on the forums. It wasn't that people didn't have terrain, just that you either didn't have enough to reach the required density or the stuff people had was unsuitable (40k ruins etc.)

You have to think that at one time there was no Sarissa, MAS, Antenociti, Bandua etc. making terrain (to the point now that we are practically drowning in it), and that guy who made the card print-off containers was practically worshipped as a god..

That's my thought too. The Mototronica pack was released AFTER icestorm, so I don't think this means a new starter. God knows what will happen if they release a new starter and a new book...

When people were talking about "40k ruins", they were talking about the OLD ruins--y'know, the ones which came two to a sprue and even made it into the old Imperial Guard battleforce way back in the day.

I'm aware of that, bud. What I'm saying is that it wasn't a lack of scenery--it was a lack of people making use of existing scenery or motive to build their own.

Topsolitario?

I wouldn't exactly say that he was a god.

Mind you, I do have a shrine dedicated to him at home that I've built entirely out of his shipping containers... I'm working on topping it off with a Walrus hovercraft model...

If someone would like to copy/cut-n-paste all of those questions and answers into a thread in the INFINITY forums here, that would be great!

With those color choices, how well will it mesh with the first Moto.Tronic pack? I'm wondering why they did not come up with a set of 2 or 4 2'x2' game mats. It would have been nice to see different shapes and sizes to the buildings rather than just re-skinning the already exising ones.

Still it is something that TOs and people just starting out will like. There is a convenience to it that you will not get with the MDF stuff-- not that I own, or ever wil own, any MDF stuff. But then, I'm very much an edge case here.

It came up in one of the threads:

Also who is going to consolidate all those questions into a fan made FAQ? (1...2...3...NOT IT)

Palanka, on 29 May 2015 - 08:56 AM, said:
There's no need for that. We'll release a comprehensive FAQ document.

So there's nothing stopping someone from going through and preparing their own FAQ with the answers so far, but there may not be much of a compelling reason....

While I don't contest your rationale, I'm going to continue to hope!
After the success of Icestorm it's almost a no-brainier to try and make another boxed set of some sort to coincide with the release of HS. Putting Aleph and say Tohaa in such a boxed set would give ample opportunity to introduce new link team rules.
Then again, I'd just like an excuse to buy more Yu Jing. Icestorm was a good value for the $$, even if I only really wanted the Nomads in it.

Couldn't agree more.

Old 40k style ruins just don't cut it. Spires, arched windows and skulls just don't suit the Infinity aesthetic imho.

I got an extra scenery pack to compliment my Icestorm stuff. It's a nice amount for a 4x4 table. Not very varied, but if you just think "It's a research outpost" rathe rthan a Pan O mega city, you're laughing.
