Hi,
this thread is to get a more objective overview on the abundance of Finecast miscasts. So if you have bought a Finecast model, did it have a slight or considerable miscast? Or was it a perfect cast? Major miscast means a missing foot or chin, a broken staff. A minor miscast might be a tiny hole or anything else easily fixed with greenstuff or paint.

If you haven't bought a model, there is no option for you in the poll, just watch.

This should be interesting. To see how much miscasts there has been. Haven't bought any yet myself though.

Erm, in this case how do we know people arn't.....shall we say, attempting to skew the results? unfortunately on here, theres a lot of people "wanting" finecast to be a success, theres also alot of people wanting it to fail.

I bought a Dark Eldar Archon. The cloak had about eight bubbles, next to the sword on the hip the model was gouged from a miscast. I am not impressed.

DE Archon: Bit of flash on the cloak that concealed some minor detail, and a small piece of the Huskblade was missing. Still using it, because the part that's missing ends up making it look more like the other DE swords so I don't mind.

My brother however bought the Eldar Avatar, which had no miscast pieces.

The main problem is the cloak it seems, at my FLGS everyone had miscasts on their archons cloak.

I haven't needed to get any Fincast models yet, but from what i have seen they are of excellent quality with a very low imperfection rate.

the switch to resin is needed for alot of the multi-part metals.

metal models with multiple parts that need pinning to properly fit were just a PITA. My metal jump pack Chaplain took forever to get his jump pack to stay in place.

a resin model is better as the pieces are lighter and the super glue will be able to support the weight quicker(pewter can take several minutes for the glue to harden sufficiently. with resin, the super glue can hold the pieces almost instantly)

Well, i certaintly have something nostalgic now. all my metal minies shall be relics of the past now.

A new day, a new time zone.

I was pretty curious given all the threads on finecast, so I went to the local GW store to check them out. Bought a Commissar and two Hive Guard. A little bit of flash and vents, some of it irritating, but not beyond what I would've expected from the metals. No miscasts. I also checked out about three dozen plus other finecasts blisters, and aside from Njal having a bit of mold in his mouth, and some bowed or bent staves, swords, or other long objects, they all looked really good.

There were four Astorath the Grims that I paid close attention to, given the fine lines on his armor struck me as a real problem point, but all of them looked good.

I need to vote twice, I bought two boxes both had problems.

That summarizes finecast to me, they had a perfectly fine product (metal) that they should have just left the hell alone. They claim the new product is the best thing ever made, in reality it was more like carbonated vomit.

I got some drones today. The cast errors are the same as the metal ones excluding the microscopic molding case rubber.

But then again nothing to go on to the internet and go "OMG GAISZ I jus bot dis rezn modell andz it are look liek mashed PO-TA-TOES mixed with spit paste and I R MAD-ED-ED-ED"

Otherwise, I took a look at the other models on the rack and the only deformation was on a Tau Ethereal. But this only made him look more dynamic as his jaw was a bit lower and made him look like he was yelling, and in no way was this warping making him look similar a warped forgeworld tank part. Again that was the only one I saw everything else was pretty good and without flash, even the DE stuff.

Wow, already it begins... This thread will undoubtedly show that hundreds of miscast ones went out, because people probably won't complain if they look good. Then it will start a firestorm of complaints that will go nowhere.

In a word, trolling...

well, 50% are saying no complaints and 25% only a minor problem easily fixed/ignored.

accounting for the fact that people with a problem are more likely to vote in a poll...

I would say that Fincast is satisfying at least 90% of the population.

got Sauron, easily better than the metal sauron. Got Gil-galad and Elrond. They are perfect. Dark angels captain had just flash on it, which is normal considering the detail.

If bits have flash on it, its not the end of the world, Flash is easy to remove on the resin. The metal flash, that was hard to remove.

Currently we have half the people experiencing miscasts and a quarter severe miscasts, maybe less than expected but still far too much for an expensive premium product. Mail ordering Finecast (what most non-GW stores have to do) is a game with bad odds, retailers shouldn't sell boxes unopened and be prepared for a high number of reclamations. That is not the moonlanding promised: "What was the first miscast you bought?"

(BTW if you bought several models, one severe miscast is enough to count, as you count as ONE customer who has to give a defective product back).

Would you buy Hamburgers with a 25% chance to bite on a dead beetle?
Esp. when these Hamburgers cost 50% more than normal ones?
Or a 50% chance that your new car has no issues?
25% FUBR is not an acceptabe rate for a premium product.

If there was nowhere else to get hamburgers, and I only wanted hamburgers, not hot dogs, or a steak, or even a chicken burger, but a hamburger? Yeah, I'd take my chances. Although a miscast and eating a dead beetle don't really have the same degree of unpleasantness for me.
