This is a full army work in proggres everything is already built but just needs painting my goal is to have entire army done in a week.

On the agenda is:
Vader priest
Sideous priest done

an 8 man squad of grey hunters in a rhino with wolf guard leader
4 5 man squads of grey hunters each with wolf guard leader in razorbacks1 razorback and squad done

2 5 man scout squads with wg 1 done

3 6 man long fang squads with wg 1 done

Njal is a sm captain with 2 power swords a bit of green stuff work and a different chest plate while night wing is a darkk angel piece stuck on top o pile of green stuff.

next up is the wolf guard going into main squad.

the wolf guard is just a dude with a power fist and the little pistol holder that all my wolf guard have on them

now the 8 guys njal hangs around with

and final model for now there ride the rhino

Just a plain rhino that i tried to free hand an imperial symbol on didnt turn out great especially as little brother messed it up a bit but good enough for first real attempt at freehanding anything at all

And last a group shot of njal and company

and comments or critisims would help im not the best painter but any simple tips would help model wise i cant change much thow as i scrapped together all my mariens and left over marieneish bits for this project.

Yeah pics ain't coming up for me either. I'm new as well but i find that if i drag the pics into the attachment box they show up ok, though they show at the bottom of the post. They don't show up in the preview screen - pretty annoying really. Have another go cos i'm keen to check out your pics, even if i hate the wolves

Yo, just checked out your posts and seen you aint no newbie - sorry if that wound you up!

All the advice I can give is practice, practice, practice. Cup your hands together so they don't shake, if you have that problem, and just try to 'stick within the lines' as much as possible. And thereon in, it's just practice, dude.

Yeh when your hands are as big as mine painting something that small aint easy i go for table top quality paintjobs where i can tell the squads apart at a glance and try for decent looking poses.

Yeh I've seen many people talk bout that but it isn't easy with the type of paint and pallete I use.

I use a walmart brand acrillic paint in a squizable bottle in a pallete with small holes so not too much space for the paint to begin with especially if I tried watering it down.

That there is probably the problem. Sounds like you're literally using poster paints which is just too thick to be used really.

Have you looked at any of the miniature paints? GW, Vallejo, P3, Coat D'Arms?

Heya man, we played last year at the NOVA (last game I think? I had the IG).

I'll agree with the above poster, that indeed is likely your problem. I noticed it during our game that some of your paint looks like it isn't getting good coverage, but is semi-translucent and streaky. My guess is if you swapped to a miniature acrylic paint like GW/P3/Vallejo, you'd notice tremendously improved results. The paint just flows better and has higher pigment so it covers nicely.

Doesn't need to be pricey either, so don't let that hold you back. I use...a piece of cardboard with packing tape on it (or just packing tape on my cutting mat) as a "palette". If it's a GW pot, i'll just dip my brush in it.

Vallejo is my personal favorite by a wide, wide margin for everything, except metallics which I find GW's to be better. Although it may seem expensive (~3 dollars for a small dropper bottle) they'll typically last you quite a while. I still have some of my original GW paints with the screw cap lids from 10-15 years ago.

If you have any paint-brand/type questions, just post em up, don't let the paint itself be what holds you back!

Also, what type of brush are you using (best thing is to take a picture of it for us). I find that a lot of guys that say they have control issues/too big of hands/etc., it's usually the tools, not them. If your brush isn't able to hold a "point" this makes it basically impossible to get detail on a model. Trust me, I have several friends who make you look small (both in height and weight) who can paint far better than me, part of it is practice, part of it is just using the right things.

Yeh target i remember you having a list that I had almost no chance of beating so much dang plasma.

and heres a few pics of 3 bottles of the paint i use with what i put the paint in then some pics of my brushs most where given to me from my grandmother that she got from a friend of hers who passed away so not ideal for minitures but i find that they work fairly well as i have a good variation on sizes my favorite one is the bent one.

and finally some pics of my wolf guard termys for my 2k list before paint first is a basic aobr termy with a havoc luancher glued to back the other is like 14 different pieces from different armys and sets.

i do have a few bigger brushes but i only use them on my tanks.

Wow! Nice selection of brushes, puts mine to shame. I'd say most look fine and able to hold a fairly good point, so you've definitely got some acceptable options.

But I think you're hamstringing yourself with the paint...that type of acrylic paint just isn't quite intended for the detail work you're doing on 28mm miniatures...have you ever given the GW/P3/Vallejo paints a try and seen if you like them?

If you haven't, I'd recommend at the least heading into a GW and using the paints they have there at their painting station (bring a mini and brush to paint with) and just giving them a try. Theres a new battle bunker in Bowie which is quite nice if you haven't checked it out yet.

Ahhh, yep, I typically just buy it, was just suggesting a cheap and easy way to test them before buying if you wanted.

I'd still recommend trying them out if you get inclined, your life will become much easier

yeh my lgs charges a membership fee to use there paint and as i cant get up there very often id be better off picking up the 4 or 5 colors id use and just use what i have for the shoulder pads as detail dosnt matter to much there.

Ever thought of sticking the barrels of an assault cannon to a missile launcher to form a shoulder mounted assault cannon. wanted to do it for my wolves but my dad nicked the last assault cannon.

Damn you beat me to it.

The paint on some of these models looks a little bit thick. Nothing you can do but practice though.

Why would you think this is a good idea.

My advice is to literallly go buy real paints, strip your army, and start over.

becuase my mom wouldnt let me get them anywhere else as they where too expensive and I still cant really afford new paints and stripping the models now will undo all the work I put into converting them and painting them.

so what im getting from this is dont enter any painting related comps and dont expect my army to be better then barely tabletop.
Any comments not related to the type of paint i use would be helpful thow like if you like the converstions i did on some or the idea behind the paint scheme.

I like the colors, I have never seen that used before.

I have got to say, I use some of those brands of paint but they never come out like that when I paint.. I suggest watering them down.

Just keep painting anything you can get your hands on and watch as your skill increases!
