I've recently got into 40k and after going through many chapters and pondering making my own I went with the White Scars (not very smart since i suck at painting and white is a nightmare but that's a subject for another time haha). My question is this :

Does the Ravenwing box come with robed marines or not? I saw an unboxing video and it seemed to have the basic bikes/landspeeder kits with the Ravenwing markings/symbols/decorations on separate sprues as extra but couldn't make out the pilots/riders themselves.

It comes with 6 biker sprues, 1 attack bike, 1 old style speeder sprue, and 3 ravenwing upgrade sprues. You get enough parts for three robed riders.

I have circled the robe legs, body and the hooded head. Its the perfect way to start a White Scars force although i'm not sure the the WS are well known for their robe wearing... But still good luck. Also it may help if you undercoat in white. But you probably already knew that.

He doesn't necessarily have to use the robed parts, of course.

Ravenwing is a wonderfull way to build a white scars army. I recently got 5 of them off amazon to start mine (For the cost of 4 wooohoo). The only problems you will have is getting a hold of metla,plasma,flamers,powerfists, and storm shields. Also, there is no variety in heads unless you want to use dark angles heads.
The only weapon missing for the land speeders is the heavy flamer iirc. From just one of these boxes you will have more assault cannons and typhoon missle launchers than you will ever know what to do with imo.

You may want to pick up some chain swords from an online retailer or a friend because other wise all of your bikers will have both arms on the handle bars. This gets really boring to model after about three bikers.

As far as painting white goes. It's alot easier if you forget highlights and go for extreamly dirty mini's. Just wash them black after priming white. Then wash them with a very heavy brown so they look muddy and alot of the problems that come from dealing with white will go away.

Four of these battle forces will get your exactly 3 full bike squads and save you quite a bit of money. Espically if you dont want to use all the land speeders. You can just sell them.

There should have been 3 of the sprues with special weps and chainswords etc on them included in the box. I know there was in mine. Although you are correct there is no heavy flamer in the kit.

Bikers are boring to begin with. the DA bikers are, as far as I can tell, the only option to add variance to those bikers. Otherwise this kit wouldn't exist. Most other SM armies have a defining feature to set them apart from ultragayrines, so for DA its in the biker department....

Anyway, if you mix the DA ravenwing kit with chaos bits, you could actually go a long way for creating white scars stuff. Obviously only some stuff would work, and only once de-chaosified or correctly reposed (tassles/braids of hair etc)... even better would be kitbashing with spacewolves, once they've been de-russified/de-vikingized. It comes across with the right kind of feel I think.

Anyone to second my idea?

Oh, also: You could find someone to trade with, give them your DA upgrade sprues in exchange for whatever you need to white-scarify your army.

You made a good choice for what you bought, You got ALOT of value for what you spent.

Awesome infos guys, thanks alot! I was afraid the riders would all be DAed which wouldn't do for my WS. I'll just make some riders with the extra bits I have on the side still. I can also use some of the DA props and icons for my SoB army I'm slowly putting together through Ebay.

Time to add another order to the massive backlog Wayland already has do deal with thanks to The Embargo™. Should leave me some time to deal with the AoBR marines and tac squad I already have
