Well, I just painted this up today, and I was hoping for some C&C. Dont be too harsh though, Its my 1st painted tank, and my first GW model painted out of the 4 models I've painted

EDIT:: For anyone curious about why the back says 'Beast', its the name of the tank

Could use some sort of highlighting, maybe a wash on the non-black parts, and where is the rest of the back of the tank?

The rest of the back of the tank isnt there because...well....i didn't like it. I take creative risks with my tanks....and by creative, I mean 'highly dangerous'.....as in the tank overheats an blows up, haha.

As for washes and highlights, im still learning to paint straight...thats goin over my head a bit.

Washes aren't that hard to use, just liberally coat the area with a wash of your choice.

"liberally coat" doesn't bode well when I have to do such things. Either way though, I dont have any washes to use....so I painted this with what I had.

Well you should get some washes. They're pretty damn useful.

I might when I get some more cash. Most my spare money goes to extra models. Painting is never high on my priorities, but when i do get around to it, I'm just happy having my models at table top standards.

It would look a lot better with some more color, all-black just screams "primed" to me. Good job on the turret, though!

Thanks for the comments guys! I understand the 'primed' feeling youre getting at Gavo, the problem is that i actually want the majority of the tank black. Its how I'm gonna go with my actual troopers too.

Ok, I understand. You'll want to paint up the rivets and use highlighting, it'll give it a much more finished feel.

I see. Any suggestions? I've never done highlighting before. And what color should I use for the rivets? I have bleached bone, blood red, chaos black, burnished gold, and boltgun metal. not a large selection, i know, but like i said in my first post I've only painted 4 minis, 3 of which were PP warjacks

Definitely boltgun metal for the rivets. For the highlighting, if your looking to get a highlight without a new pot of paint, you might be able to mix some black into a bit of boltgun metal on a pallet, then simply use the edge of your brush and paint the sharp edges on the tank.
Simple.

Oh, and get a wash, either Badab Black or Devlan Mud. Either will do the job.

EDIT: Use the burnished gold for things like aquilas and things that you want to stand out.

Thanks for the tips, bok. What should I use to get the black and metal out of their pots? A brush doesn't seem like it would work, and experience with gravity tells me I might lose all my paint if I use it.

And please forgive my probably dumb questions.

Grey works wonders for highlighting black surfaces. I've also heard of people using blues for the same thing, though I have never tried it myself.

If you have access to a Wal-Mart (or something equivalent - Hobby Lobby or an arts/crafts store of some kind) for some cheap, acrylic paints they do the trick for me where standard colors are concerned. Folk Art and Apple Barrel are the brands that come to mind (and they're cheap on the pocketbooks too!).

maybe try drybrushing a very light layer of the boltgun netal over it or maybe just around the edges and rivets? its good to see the armour paltes and things of a tank if its predominate colour is black...

If I'm honest it looks unfinished. You need something to break up the monotony of all that black; either edge highlight in grey, or add silver battle-damage scratches. I'd paint the rivets too.

You could also definitely use a wash on the metals as at the moment it is severely lacking in depth.

Hope that helps!

Echoing that it looks unfinished. Just buy a pot of a dark to medium grey (Adeptus Battlegrey) and use a big brush to drybrush the entire thing. It can make a flat color paintjob look awesome for minimal time and effort. Here's Camo Green over Catachan Green drybrushing on one of my Russes as an example:
