Hi guys, and welcome to my blog!

Whilst I'm not entirely new to the blogging scene, this is my first proper attempt at documenting the construction and painting of an army from humble beginnings through to triumphant conclusion. This blog will be running in tandem with another one I have created on blogspot. I will, however, try and update this one purely with modelling and painting progress. If you'd like to see list creation, random musings on the army, as well as future battle reports, please feel free to visit http://calibanslament.blogspot.com/.

Anyway, that's enough nattering from me for now. I'll leave you with a test model that is representative of the type of quality I am aiming for with this army.

C&C is, as always, very welcome.

Until next time!

L. Wrex

Looks nice, especially the Company markings, but the shoulder trims could use a spot of colour.

Update!

So since I purchased these models second-hand I knew right from the off that I would have to strip them. A quick search on Amazon yielded the result I was looking for and, after a short interval of a day or two, this little beauty arrived!

I've read a number of guides on the internet and Dettol (for UK residents) is the cheapest, safest and most readily available stripper we have. So, after diluting it down 50:50 with water, the first batch of Marines were ready to go in to soak.

I decided that, as I had diluted the concentrate somewhat, I would leave the models to soak for about 48hrs. So they went into the mixture on Saturday, and on Monday it looked like this:

So, with a mixture of nerves and excitement I laid out my prepping area, grabbed my sister's toothbrush, and commenced scrubbing.

The results were quite beyond my expectations:

This stuff is seriously, seriously good at what it does. The paint was starting to come off just by running my fingers over the models, and when I applied the toothbrush it literally fell off the mini. The Dettol even stripped the gunky, thick sand and flock from the bases. With this massive success I was feeling much more confident, and immediately put the next batch of Marines in to soak:

I used the same mixture that I'd just exhumed the original batch from, so I expect to have to leave these guys submerged for a little bit longer, especially as there is a fair amount of flock, sand and paint to remove. I think Wednesday should suffice.

Thanks for reading!

Gotta love the dettol! managed to 'save' over 50 marines using it last year, isn't it wonderful, and your Dark angel looks pretty good as well, I like the markings on him you've done a good job, and using your sisters toothbrush.... :-)

Quick update guys; I've primed, finished the bases, and started on the armour of the first squad. I tend to complete the base first as I'm a bit messy with my drybrushing and nothing makes me sadder than getting unwanted paint on finished areas. Doing the bases first also helps me 'frame' the model better, so I can getter a more accurate idea of what the finished mini will look like.

Anyway, here are a few pics. First off my assembly line:

I like to work in batches of 3-4 as it helps prevent me getting burnt out doing one colour over and over agan.

Finally, a few close ups of the second finished Marine:

Thanks for looking!

Nice progress and love the deep green you got going. What paint you using? Kinda looks like Army Painter paint?? Keep the Lion proud!

Thanks for the comment! The basic stages are:

- Prime black
- Catachan Green watered down 1:1 over all the armour pieces.
- Badab Black watered down 1:1 over the Catachan Green.
- 1:1 mix of Dark Angels Green and Catachan Green on the armour, leaving the wash in the recesses of the armour.
- Highlight of Snot Green on the edges where the light hits.

Glad you like them!

Quick update guys:

I finished stripping the second batch of Marines. As these guys were quite heavily encrusted in thick paint I decided to leave them to soak for a whole week. The Dettol, again, worked magnificently; removing the paint with ease and causing most of the aforementioned gunky basing sand and flock to fall off before I even started with the toothbrush. I'll be looking to get these guys re-assembled, based and sprayed by the end of the weekend.

Here's a pic for you all:

No pics this time folks as my camera has been stolen by the 'rents for some reason or another. Work on the Dark Angels is progressing nicely though, I have four finished Marines and only the highlights/details on the first squad to finish off and then it'll be 10 down and 20 more to go! I also managed to pick up a Space Hulk Librarian off of one of my friends (thanks James!) and he'll be my 'reward' once the Tacticals are all done.

Painting blue will be a novelty after all this green...

I think this blog is overdue an update! I haven't managed to do a whole lot painting-wise as I have been spending a little too much time finishing off my IG army. However, the third Tactical Sqd has now been stripped and is ready for basing and spraying.

I am also in the final stretch of finishing off the first Tactical Sqd. I still have a few of the minor details to complete as well as the decals, bolters and the plasma cannon. The plasma cannon will probably take a little longer as I need to source not only the parts I need but it'll also be my first foray into the world of magnetisation. Suffice to say I shall keep you all informed on how I got on!

Tactical Sqd (apologies for the blurry picture, I was a bit rushed when I took it)

And a close up of the Sergeant:

Cheers!
