I have all ways wanted too build a gaming board for my 40k amy since I got it last year. up until now i have been playing on a pool table with bits scenery that I made (some of which is not that bad) or a the local gaming center. Now I think it's time to build my own build my own bourd I have a general plan on what its gona look like but i'm short on one thing...

A theme...

I want my board to be able to be used by both my Space Marines Shadow Legion Chapter and my Wood Elves. So I decided to go with a forest like theme in the begining but now i'm not sure... I Would like have a theme that would see right for any team to be on the board (tomb kings are not found in forests). what my one friend thought being a Chaos player said if your going to build a board I want something chaos... so I thought back to my forest theme... A chaos forest!! with set peaces EG hills and lots of little peices such as forest, elven ruins for Fantasy, and worn torn ruins of war on a planet that last saw war thousands of years ago and now the plants are reclaiming what was lost to them, sorta thing...

What Other themes do you think would be suited for my needs or just awesome?..

My board will be about 190cm x 130cm

I like your idea for a forested board, and one thing you might consider is making the board somewhat 'modular'. If you check out my recent battle report, you will see what I mean: I've made several 1' x 1' flooring tiles into a few different types of terrain. Not saying that's the best plan, but it seems to work for us.

This allows us to remake the board as we desire, changing things to represent different types of terrain, or a defence position etc. Plans are to make at least 3 times the number of tiles that you see in the BR - when done, we'll have mountains and rivers, more plateaus, maybe a few buildings. Likely a lot of buildings.

This still lets you place smaller terrain pieces on top of the board as well - forested areas, etc.

You're going to have a Chaos Temple, right?

Ya I forget to mention that the board would be devided into 3 peices across the length of the board. I say that thats one of the best ways to build a board if you want to store it.

Ok just took a look at what you meant by "tiles" a little different too what I thought of but a great idea!
