So it begins... again! I recently decided to repaint the FW Chaos Dragon that some of you might remember me painting a while back as a Tzeentch Dragon. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/244523.page It finally got to me that I have a Tzeentch Dragon in the ranks of both my Khorne armies and thats just unacceptable. So its time we repaint this bad boy! And since my painting skills have increased alot since then, it should look even better! Rather than rant for 3 paragraphs like I tend to in all my P&M posts, Ill just get this one started. Lets start off small. With the base... which ironically enough is quite big! Front view of the base Back view of the base I went for a ground cracking effect for where it was stepping Various shields across the base. One Khorne, one Tzeentch, and an Empire shield with Nuln colors no less. Random Chaos Stone A Nuln soldier stuck under a few rocks. Hes an addition to the base from my first time painting the model, and thats probably his shield over yonder. Sucks to be him.

Haha, I realize its not too much to show, but I don't have much started. I have the two tail pieces nearly done, but Im waiting until I have some 'Ard Coat to premier the color scheme (well the inner parts anyways, you already know the skin color). I also got the body primed and the cut open neck part started so I might just put a up some pictures tomorrow, but no promises. I will add that it was horrifying to take apart this model. If you look at the first P&M blog I had for it, you know just how many brass rods there were (11 to be exact) holding it together. I actually ended up breaking one of those legs while prying apart the body so I could repaint the base with alot more detail. Bet you couldn't tell! Heres it partially unassembled, was such a big pain, and very scary considering how much it costed. Definitely not going through that again. I died a little inside *Both those were taken with my phone so sorry for the quality.

Just needed to be repainted. Khorne wasn't too happy about me running a Tzeentch dragon and I wasn't too fond of the sub par paint job, let alone the fact that I never finished it (after how many years?). The base was soo ridiculously random and didn't even remotely match the bases of my armies that I have going. So it just kinda had to be done in my opinion. It should definitely look alot better if nothing else. The legs were just being stubborn and even though I had both legs loose and only needed to pull them out, I forgot how wierd the brass rods went in and it just snapped the one leg. This also gives me a chance to redo the brass rod in the front leg so the pieces line up a bit better. Luckily it was a clean cut and you cant even notice!

Well hopefully I can get that to you as soon as possible.
I was trying to get some pictures up of the body/tail today but my camera decided it wasn't going to work at all so I apologize for that.
If nothing else, you can expect the model to be done before Storm of Magic. But more likely it will be done within the next few weeks, because I will be working on Tamurkhan whenever that model arrives, and it too must be completed before Storm of Magic arrives.

Ouch, tough break, dude (pun partially intended).
I agree with your assesment that the base needs work (though I haven't seen the rest of your army). The rubble looks too uniform, and the size difference between the rubble chunks and the sand is too greak. Maybe a good variety of mid sized debris?
Keep it up!
Cheers,

Actually the first base pictures posted are for the most part done. What do you mean by too uniform for the rubble? Cause when I did make the base (2 years ago or so?) I tried to make sure it was the exact opposite, which is why its not stacked all neatly etc. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the suggestions, I'm just not so sure I entirely undestand what your saying .

Don't stick your tongue out at me, mister!
I think the actual positioning of the rubble is fine, pieces all strewn about and all (well, except for the gaps around the dragon's feet, I thought that was a little odd looking). I was more referring to the size of the pieces of rubble. It seems like you only really have two sizes: blocks and sand. What I mean is that it seems unlikely that when something (whatever the rubble used to be: hab block, munitorium office, temple of Sigmar, etc.) is completely destroyed, beyond any recognition, that all of the pieces would be pretty much the same size. There would be big pieces and small pieces and maybe over there would be half of a wall with some medium pieces around it, and some beams and office supplies half sticking out on the other side, etc.
Like this:
I think the shields, wheel, and poor soul are a good start, but I need more convincing
I don't think it's really the biggest deal in the world, but your painting looks great and it's a great model (that you spent a lot of money on!) and having a great base would really be the cherry on top. You have so much room to work with; it's a huge base!
I hope this is helpful, let me know if you still have questions.
Good luck!
Cheers,
Rawson
