So, because i'm jumping on the GK bandwaggon, I decided that I would post my bandwaggoningess on the interwebs for everyone to see. those of you who have seen my work before, know that I don't tend to stick to Codex colors when it comes to painting an Army (My Devine Dragons IG and my Blood Ravens (Blood Angels). This time, however, I really feel that doing Grey Knights in all there intended glory would be fun and diffrent for me. :-)
I ordered an Iwata Eclipse airbrush (Thanks Kevin!) and a Silver Jet air compressor from Amazon for the shocking price of only 230$! that may seem like alot but to get a gravity fed airbrush and a small desk top compresser in my local hobby store was going to cost 300+ dollars and they only had the bottom fed airbrushes.
So moving on to my GK themselfs.
I started with coat of black primer. I've seen some people start with white, and i'm a bit confused as to why. painting with metallics on a white base coat drove me nuts (This is the vioce of expierecnce lol)
after the black primer i used the airbrush to put on a solid coat of Boltgun metal. i don't use exact measurements so i can't tell you what the mixture of paint to water ratio was for the airbrush. i just know more paint than water. if you gett it too watery, it won't coat like spray paint, it'll blob up with silvery watter droplets.
After the boltgun metal, i used chainmail to just to lighen up the bolt gun metal. again i used the airbrush.
once done with the base metals, i used Asurman blue wash in the recesses of the armor, and a touch of black ink on the recesses in the boot area.
I painted all the gold with shining gold and highted with burnished gold i then followed with gryphon sepia. all the receses (with words n stuff) were filled with a 1/1 mix of oygren flesh and gryphon sepia to get that old chestnut ink look.
to get the white (I HATE PAINTING WHITE! haha) i started with fortress grey, worked my way up to skull white. i then filled in the recesses with gryphon sepia and then touched up with bleached bone.
reds were fairly simple with scab red, red ink wash, then highlighted with blood red.
let me know what you guys think! :-D more works will be posed when i get them done. :-) I'll also take photo's with a higher resolution camera. lol

Thank you! I'm also open to any good ideas for basing! I'm at a loss at how i want to base them. theyre going to be a small elite army so buying resin bases for the whole thing isn't out of the question. My first knee jerk reaction was to go with Grey slate or even snow covered but at this point i'm open to any suggestions. :-) Oh, the power weapons (Which should hopefully get done this weekend) will be the White faded to blue faded to black like GW has it. with the air brush it's very simple to get the gradual shaded look. I'll post the Link to the freakin Kick butt Youtube video on how to do it when i find it!
Ok! Got it its called the crystal sword technique by neculiosaur in case the link dosnt work http://youtu.be/C7P9g5Nkje4

Ok folks! With my weekend finally here I've managed to get a little more work done. Today, i've Magnatized all the Halbreds and Flamers on my little plastic men. I've got a few picturs of before, Primed black, and then coated with Bolt Gun. I've also added a pick of why i Put Chainmail on them. It gives them that polished shine look to the Boltgun armor. :-) The GK on the Left has the Chainmail addition.

Ok folks, Just added the pics from todays hard work. Due to my schedual being Poop during the week between Work and School, the only time i have is on the weekend. Thank god my girl loves me enought to let me try to get these completed. lol There's a painting Contest on the 30th that i need to get these done for. :-)
Granted i know there still not done I'm very happy with the way thier turning out. The Power weapons on the Halbreds turned out fantastic. look at my earlier comment for a link on how to get that effect. It's a pretty cool Video that's about as To-the-point as you can get. I still have to finish the halbreds and put back packs on them so i have high hopes for them to be finished pretty soon.

Thank you! I totally owe it to nuclealosaur. His video I posted a link to is where the credit is due. It's so simple to do once you know how. But with out his Tutorial, I don't think i would have figured it out. Automatically Appended Next Post: SO. in all my Wisdom, I've realized i've posed a painting blog in the wrong section... Poo. Anyone know how i can change that? or do I need to just repost everything completely?

Glad my vid was useful!
They're really neatly done (even my gf said the gold and details are so meticulous!)
I prefer a more heavily shaded stuff, but each to his own. Really nicely painted model still.
About Iwata Jet compressor - how much PSI could you go up to?
Is it loud? I'll have to move to a condominium in the future and will need something less noisy.
Cheers

The Compressor is actually fairly quiet. I have a roomate and he sleeps in the room next to mine. He also works oppsing shifts so when im awake he's sleeping. I've been at this with the compressor for about 2 weeks now and he hasn't woken up once. Don't get me wrong there is still some noise but it's not bad at all. I keep the pressure built up to about 35-40 psi (It maxes out at 50ish) but if you were to use a continual spray, it produces about 18-20 PSI. I've put regular GW paints and GW metallics through it with out issue. I plan on using it to paint my Blood Ravens so we'll see how it does on a larger scale.
The gold was actually fairly easy to paint as well. Based with vermin brown, painted with three very light coats of Shining gold, highlighted with Burnished gold, the recesses were darkened with Gyphone sepia, and the corners touched with Mithril Silver. :-)
Semper Fi,
Aaron

@ Grundz They are base coated with Skull white, the with the airbrush i gave them two coats of paint. First with Ice blue to give the lighter shade of blue, then with Enchanted blue. you could even go futher with regal blue or black to give it the Darker shade, but I enjoy lighter colors. :-)
