So I've been buying up OOP necrons left, right and center in preparation for the legendary amount of gaming I'm going to be doing when I finish my degree and it's comming to the time where I can start painting things up ready.

So, here's most of what I have to paint:
Top shot:

Fast attack - Scarabs and the armchairs of death!:

Troops, HQ and Elites:

More troops:

(The Models to the far left are some OOP Skaven and Orcs the missus is painting up, the Harlies are also hers.)

What's missing?
The already painted:
5 destroyers (Current ED)
Lord (Current ED)
Destroyer lord (Current ED)
16 warriors (Current ED)
6 immortals (Current ED)
Tomb spyder
11 Scarab bases (Current ED)

In progress:
Monolith
3 heavy destroyers
6 warriors
4 immortals

Still on the sprue/in the box:
Monolith
20+ warriors (Current ED)
4 flayed ones
5 pariahs
Night bringer
Tomb spyder
5 destroyers

There is still a chunk of stripping work to do as well as soaking the stripped models to remove any residue AND a buttload of basing to do but I have my airbrush setup now so I just need to get the paint mixture right (nearly there) and I can spray away!.

I'll update again when I've put the rest of the painted models in for stripping and then again when I've based the first batch of warriors.

Risking mod wrath at some thread-necromancy:

As with most things, life got in the way and I've not got anything near what I wanted done. BUT! I've managed to scrape some time together to finish off a decent chunk of the prep work:

Table is setup and ready for the slog:

I've stripped off enough warriors and immortals to get started on the basing which I can do now that I have my Model Air.

First tests with model air:

Th big issue here is that the VMA Grey primer shows up all of the little imperfections on these old models but when the red goes over and if I'm careful with the shading, they aren't so noticeable and I can always say I kept them to make them look ancient....or something. The coat is a little thick, I realise, but I know how to avoid that next time and will do. Also, you'll see that some of the paint is missing in some places: This pose in the OOP necron warriors isn't terribly well balanced (None of the warriors are tbh) and the warrior fell over a few times.

So I've started preping the rest of the warriors for priming and base coating:

I used a pin drill to drill a small hole in the feet of the warriors and glued some thick copper wire in to the holes so that I can hold the buggers while I paint them and not end up with a thumb shaped void in the coating.

I've got my immortals to clean up and prep for priming and base coating next which I'll do after I've primed and based the warriors:

Got a bit of a headache today and it's really quite warm in the house so I wont risk spraying the warriors up incase I balls up the paint job or make my headache worse. I'll green stuff the other 12 bases I need instead:

While I've been doing all this, I've been helping out Mrs Salmon with her orkis too. Prep for priming/basing:

The resin bases she wanted after spotting them on ebay:

She wanted me to drill out all the holes on her guns while I was cleaning off the flash:

Beginning of some of her test painting:

Her first proper go at doing skin (I'm a bit jealous of the results, this is her 5th ever model):

I still have 20 OOP destroyers, 4 immortals and a bunch of other stuff soaking in dettol waiting to finish the stripping and I have my paint station setup in my cellar ready for my airbrushing.

I 'should' be updating a bit sooner this time around, hopefully tomorrow evening.

Good work mate, looking good. It's nice to see the old Necrons rising, especially with the cool green stuff bases.

Your other half seems quite good with the old paintbrush too.

With regards to the dettol, bin it. Seriously, get some Fairy Power Spray. 2 squirts, quick agitation with a toothbrush leave to 15 minutes rinse under running water = clean as a whistle.

No gunk, no soaking, no mess, no harsh brushing, doesn't rot other glues and doesn't stink like only dettol can.

If I am not in my room, is it still my room?

Thanks mate!

Yeah, her orks are going to look a fair bit better than my army if she carries on the way she started.

As for the dettol, I think I'll take your advice. I have to soak them for 6+ days, pull the paint off with tooth picks and then go over them with nail varnish remover to get them clean and even then, some of the most stubborn parts stay stuck.

I'm out to grab some shopping later on today so I'll grab some of the Fairy Power Spray while I'm out. I'm thinking about stripping off my first monolith so I can green stuff the seems away.

Thanks for the advice!

I stripped my eBay bargain monolith after it seemed like it was specially dipped in dog poo, and then resprayed, in about an hour using Fairy Power Spray, I kid you not. It's good suff. Good luck in your search.

If you're finding it hard to get hold of try the old hardware stores or those little corner shops that try to stock eveything on the planet in a 6 foot square room.

You can buy it online though and through Amazon and eBay so all is not lost if your physical searching reveals a big fat zero. It is definately worthwhile getting your hands on some.

If I am not in my room, is it still my room?

The skin tone on the ork is really nice. Hoping to see more of your necrons!
