Ok couldn't help it, had to sit down this evening and make the 3d model for a space marine flamer. Should just about have time to get the paper pattern laid out tomorrow and get building by the weekend. Anyone interested in building one for themselves feel free to message me and I'll email over the papercraft pattern file.

What is papercraft? Looks an aweful lot like AutoCaD to me.

Yep spot on, papercraft is basically the art of taking a 3D model from most modern 3D programes like AutoCAD, 3DS Max, Google Sketchup etc and using a programe called Pepakura Designer to 'unfold the model' into whats basically a semi-complicated pattern that you can print off on any bog-standard printer. Its a great way to make larger items such as the space marine helmet, chainsword or great sword but without spending loads of money on timber / plastic materials etc. All you need is a bit of time, some glue, a printer and some paper really to get started. There are literally thousands of free patterns out there, and even if there's no anything out there that you're interested in as long as you can get the basics of some 3D software you can pretty much make whatever you want.

Feel free to message me if there's anything I can help with if anyone wants to have a go...or if i can help making a model or pattern for anything in particular.

Probably the best thing about papercraft in this context is that you can quickly make up life size versions of weapons, armour or anything really at a very minimal cost, (when I say minimal the space marine helmet on my other post cost less than £10 including a new ink cartridge to make.

Will post an update as soon as I have one on the pattern.

The finished article, A2 cutting board for scale ref.

The only bad thing about finishing something papercraft related is that you have to decide what to start next
