Hannus System
Planet Barb'rella
Dok Dagrunt Dagrunt chortled happily to himself. He'd finally cracked this kloning idea he'd been struggling with for years. A few more scavanged parts and it had all come together. He now had 2 klones of Grottley, Dastardork's servant, sniggering to themselves in corners of the room. The klones were pretty much the same as the original, just a bit different. Dagrunt chortled some more at the thought of how many teef he could get out of those speed freeks for a bit of kloning, just needed to find the right way to sell it.
It's all Arakasi's fault He inadvertently used the word wacky in a reply on my cyborks thread and my mind instantly went to Dastardley & Muttley From there it was logical..Vulture Squadron? Wacky Races? Crazy devices? Orkses? A match made in heaven surely? See..all Arakasi's fault

So this is the 'plan' as it stands so far:
6: Da 'Umie Surplus Speshul - Looted Leman Russ
3: Da Prof - Looted valk, or a deffkopta, have a good idea for the deffkopta but don't think I can resist a pink and white valk/boat weld.
4: Red Mork - Deffkopta (da Red Kount could stand in, but think'll it'll be another)
7: Da Grot Hill Mob - Trukk ('driven' by grots)
2: Da Kreepy Two - Skorcha with a dragon-squig, although it's style would better suit a trukk I want to use the dragon
1: Da Squig Bruvvers and 10: Da Buzz-Toof - run as killa-kans
5: Penny Pitfighta(Kompakt Pussy-squig), 8: Lazee L & Scaredy Squig(Armageddon Judda-Bug), 9: Peter Perfork(Turbo 'Triffik) and 0: Dik Dastardork and Grottley(Da Mean Mashin') - Warbuggies
Klones of Dik & Grottley will appear in Da Vultur Squad of deffkoptas, along with Zillee and Klunk, and I guess there'd better be an objective marker of Yanka Dooda Squigeon
Turbo Triffik
After starting with an existing speedster type cocept I decide to go for something closer to the original. Initially this:
Which is now this:
Need to create an underside and build up the cockpit area, along with re-building/covering the missing chunk of intake. The raised bit in front of the driver will house 1, maybe 2 but more likely to be 1, intakes, and below this will be the exhausts. I'm thinking 2 rather than 3 each side, but it'll depend on what else hapens before they go on. Not sure if the front wheels need to sit a little higher? The back ones definitely do, and possibly need to be larger too.
Looking at some plates to cover most of the engine, was thinking of a short and long panel on each side, front one small, then having these panels blue and red, possibly one panel along the top in white. Trying to decide between really badly beaten and weathered rough cut panelling, or something a 'bit' more regular - only a bit mind.
KonvertaKar
Just a rough 'sketch' so far really:
Was thinking to extend along the line following the underside of the valk to form the keel, the gunholes become the portholes and the prop becomes a jet - although I forsee that switching between jet and prop a few times before being finally decided (A warning to those that haven't read my cyborks plog, things move slowly and change a lot in my world ) Again, not sure of the wheels here - this time what to do with them. I can see the front wheel becoming a small trtack unit, but unsure of large open wheels at the back. Unless maybe sometinhg like the old battlewagon wheels? (need to go check some pics to see if I'm thinking right there) Although actually came across some inspiration for some tank thing the other day, with big open wheels, the tsar tank, early Russian tank.
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/60/318718.page;jsessionid=9E3A13DF23353608EE62D3FDE6BD474C#2060819
Not sure it would work here though. As an aside here's the body I was thinking of using as the deffkopta KonvertaKar, and the start of one of Dik's heads, moustache still to be added
Although it's a way ahead yet, been thinking on the Grot Hill Mob's trukk wheels too, not sure if I should go for 6 or try to keep with 4, I think 4 will look too cartoony. Think the Surplus Six will be a cut down Leman Russ, bring it closer to the cartoon Just had to put those two thoughts together
I can see a lot of that kind of thing coming, trying to find the line between the ork and the cartoon, and keeping on that line is going to be still harder
Given that this is a 'side-project', as I still want to devote a majority of my modelling time to the cyborks, and given the scope of it, I don't believe this project will be done in the near future
Things moving slowly means that there's plenty of time for feedback to be acted on C & C is definitely required in this plog At the very least to help with some of the names
Thanks for looking.

And as soon as it does, work grinds to a halt
Idea for the panelling :
The panels will curve round the body a bit more, they got straightened a bit whilst I was hacking them up. The mesh was planned as being individual to each plate, but as I blu- tac'd them on realised it looked better if it was one mesh. I'm now thinking that I'll put a rough tube of mesh around thew body-work, with the panels on top of that (plenty of holes in the mesh too). The other option I'ver been thinking about is using several layers of foil to make the panels, Could get a really beaten-up feel to the panels then. The front two panels will be blue, the rear ones red and the top a dirty white to reflect the colours of the original. I'm thinking different shades on each piece, scavenged from various places, not sure how battered I want it to be yet. If I go the foil route it really means there'll only be small patches of colour left on the metal if it's that beaten-up.

the panneling is different , not see any like that before. looks good though. will you be showing how the panneling is attached, ie lashed or bolted, solderd etc . and is that plasticad? i have never used it , if it is , seems a bit pricey ,but was wondering how it is to work with? can it be bent , or is heated then bent , i have seen lots of tubes made out of it , and didnt know if its pre rolled or doit yourself .

Thanks guys!
At the moment the idea is to have them bolted, but that may change as I work on it It is indeed plasticard, pretty easy to work with neil, sure you'd have no problems with it. Available in a wide variety of thicknesses and an assortment of tubes, strips and other shapes. Most sheets can be bent fairly easily.

I'd be inclined to cover less of the engine in plates, possibly limit it to narrow vertical or horizontal strips - perhaps in some kind of basic design - wing, flame etc. I'm thinking speed over armour - plus the engine looks good by itself - why cover it up when you can simply "enhance" it? Looking forward to where-ever you eventually take this though!

Well, I was thinking that they might want a bit of protection over 'da workings', but my primary reason for the plates was for colour I want to keep the colours close to the originals, which in this case means blue nose, red body and white stripe over the top, and I really don't want to colour the engine, that's going to be engine coloured (you know, engine coloured, like an engine ) I do want a fair bit of the engine showing, and I'll probably cut some of those panels down, although I did hack at them a bit it was really to see what it looked like, whichever way it goes the panels will be last in place anyway as I don't want them interfering with painting the engine, so there's plenty of time for changes with that part. One idea is to only have the red panels and paint the rim of the intake blue. I had in my mind an image of a really battered version of the TT, as opposed to the smoothness of the original, and was going for different coloured panels instead of a clean paint-job, if that makes any sense.
I'll certainly do a bit of mesing about with horizontal strips though, and maybe some basic flame shapes, as I said, ther'll be plenty of time to try out variations. In fact as the main body will get painted first (getting WAY ahead of myself here I know ) I may well end up painting (roughly) a few different styles to egt a good idea of how they look.

a penny that's been soaking in cillit bang. And yes the wheel was round. 2moro I must get it in a trailer and take it to cornwall. whata drag.
I think you are right about trying to keep the colors close to the original - after all the bright cartoon colors are part of what makes it wakky. After all you cant make the models exactly the same shape as the originals due to the constraints of available materials so you need something to tie them in...

Oh I don't know, I don't think it would be too hard to make replicas, but they wouldn't be orky enough. It's finding that sweet spot between the originals and the Orks that is going to be tricky. But yeah, I definitely want to keep the colours close, although there'll probably be a few different shades on each, can't have them too uniform now can we?
edited for spelling as it's too cold to type properly at the moment.

Well progress has been slow lately, but I did warn you
Tried a couple of different ideas for the lower body on da Turbo 'Triffik, neither really worked so both got ripped off either as glue was drying or not long after it did. Looked at a few of the pieces I can still get to easily and think I have a rough idea of where I'm going with da 'Umie Surlus Speshul, but need to find a few more bits before I can actually blu- tac a concept together.
Not quite a completely pointless update though, I have started putting together the first of the Dik Dastardork klones - this one'll be standing, probably get used as a Nob, haven't thought about load-out yet.
Removed a bit of the detailing on the torso to get a closer fit. Rolled out some GS on a some plastic, left it about 20 minutes then cut out from a paper template I'd made for the back piece of his trenchcoat. I left the plastic in place as I shaped the GS to keep a nice smooth finish, pleased with how it worked here.
After the first piece had cured for a few hours rolled out two more pieces, in the meantime completely forgetting to prepare templates for the rest. Also I forgot to reverse the shape when I cut this shape out so the plastic sheet was on the side I wanted attached to the model Created a bit of a mess getting the plastic off while GS was still pretty flexible and attempted to use the plastic as I smoothed the GS into a rough shape - not quite so pleased with this bit as impatience struck
Decided I needed a paper template for the final main piece so hurriedly cut prepared one, started cutting just before realising I needed to reverse the shape, managed to get by without too much damage. The plastic is still attached in the pics, I'll peel it later. The lapels WILL get a template first, but that'll get done later in the weekend.
Test fitted the head and one arm, which will be twirling his moustache, once I've decided how that'll be formed. I'm thinking thin wire with a roll of GS around it, or maybe just a slightly thicker wire.
Once this lot's cured I'll start filling the gaps, add the lapels, buttons and pockets and trim the base of the coat. I'll decide then if it needs more folds shaping, but I think this first attempt probably won't get that treatment.
Things to remember next time - the GS really needs to be a bit thinner than I left it, really need to work out all the templates before hand, need to remember to reverse the front pieces.
Thanks for looking.

You're absolutely correct weety
I'm going to tell you it's not Muttley I'll give you the teef, but then it is an ork so teef are gonna be in there somewhere. I don't recall Muttley having a hat though, and none of my references show one either, although he did have a flight cap whilst trying to catch the pigeon.
Yeah, pleased with how that worked Arakasi. Kept a nice smooth finish, and also helped somewhat with the shaping, definitely going to be using that. Next time I'll work out decent templates so I shouldn't need to do much gap filling either, I'll have to check out some tailoring patterns. Just peeled the plastic off the last piece and that worked OK too, shame about the middle piece

Mutley started wearing the hat in the Dasterdly and Mutley series as they flew planes while trying to catch the pigeon. In Wacky Races he didn't have a hat at all.

endtransmission - yep, the deffkopta klone of Muttley/Squiggly/Grottley will get the cap. Although I still don't have a firm idea for his model. Have a couple ideas on Penny and some of the gadgets for the Kompakt Pussy-Squig, I'm guessing I'll probably make on-foot klones of each of the characters before the driver klones to help figure things out.
PDH - no worries on missing this thread, it doesn't (and probably won't) surface very often. I quite like the scrap cowling but I'll wait till the main body has been built and painted before making a final decision on it. The nose from the valk is left over from my FW vulture, so that's fine, and there's a bunch of chimeras floating around my workroom. The great thing about orky projects is they use up all those kits that I have lying around just in case 'that' project gets started, the idea being that I shouldn't need to spend too much extra (although that idea didn't seen to work quite so well with the cyborks - I've definitely bought stuff for them that I hadn't planned on doing )
