so dear lads and ladies of dakka, coming this verra day i want you to join me in some light mindgames as to how i should handle my newest recruits to march for Her Majesty the one and only surpreme ruleress of the Victorian Empire, Queen Victoria...


this kilted upgrade kit for standard Imperial Guardsmen i recently got and i am now most eager to use them in some heavy conversion battle of modeling^^

here are what i have as a bases to be built from:







at the moment i have some cadian torsos and some catachan torsos as well i want to use...also i have a bunch of empire troops that i will try to salvage for some very unique conversions...
right after unpacking the content of the package in which they snuggly shipped to me, i began to search for arms to use with the legs and backpacks and heads...
i have some nice and a bit ferral looking arms i am willing to use...one with a big horn^^ and also i am thinking about using some different heads altogether to make them look more daring^^

so if you have any thoughts regarding the matter, then please don´t hesitate to tell me...

yep i have some nice ragtag heads to make them look the part...also i have arms that will be wielding lots of offending and hurtful weaponry...

the name i now choose for the regiment is by the way a galic version of the word devil (thanks wiki^^)

i have four of them and then five of the standard cadain ones... for now...also i am willing to try a bit of cruel surgery on a warzone mini to get me a torso from them... think this is a working idea?

and yep, ever heard of a non daring devilish scotsman? think not^^ so they will be daring as hell for all they are worth chibi^^

Any specific catachan torsos you want me to dig out vik, or just a variety?

And you do realise that kilts is going to lead to (lack of) underwear discussions.

up till now i only thought about decewnt things... the whole underwear issue was opened by you my friend!
well this above shown torso is the one i have currently some four (before modeling... then an accident decimated it from five to four...never found it again...)
i also will be using some WHFB torsos of empire militia and everything i can grab^^ so if you have torsos i would be willing^^ (not that you try now to make fun out of that line too....^^)
but i only need a shipment not before the 18th of july... otherwise i fear the shipment might get back to you again... no one there to collect it during this time...holidays and stuff^^

as long as no one mentiones any mankinis...of a certain scotsman...er.... ouch me did it...

Yeah, I'll start putting a pile together for later shipment. It'll take me a while to find everything anyway.

I like the first recruits, that's a fine feathered cap, my inquisitor likes it too. Nice idea with the folding stock, looks like it could do with another piece connecting the stock and body.

And as to you only thinking on decent things, well, that gets a raised eyebrow from me

he will be getting a costom made peaked hat and some other features like a fitting scabbard and some other stuff... probably a cape if i can manage that...

Woohoo Vik they are shaping up to be awesome! I am still working on coming up with a name though.

the name of the commissar needed to be scottish... he will be a "foreign" leader...someone to look over the devils and reign them in...probably and englishman but that might be argueable still... also if anyone has any ideas to make a special hat for this commissar... it needend have to be the standard commissar hat we all recognize...but a berret is out of the question for him...

Commisar James Bartholomew, who is attached to the Dòmhnall Dubhs 32th light infantry regiment which is lead by Sergeant Angus McHaggis.

...okay I am so not sure about the Sergeants last name....but Angus sounds proper. I do think you need to add in one model that has a two handed sword (from Mordheim?), long hair, and you can paint half his face blue and call him William Wallace.

i thought the same about the last name of the sergant...tho i will definatly use angus... as an AC/DC fan^^ of course!!!

James bartholomew...last name for definite... maybe some other cool name... not so overused ? something more colorful?
i do own the two handed sword...but i would refrain from naming him william wallace as it would be too obvious...need a nice name along the lines tho...and i also thought about blue faces...

well finally update time...

done three more recruits, making that for the first two days seven total plus a commissar would be^^

didn´t currently used the backpackjs yet that came with the shipment... the heads and the backpacks make a unit... rebreathers and canisters that have to be used together...but i am not currently in for stormtroopers... these have to wait for future use...


gaps to be filled and pose looks a bit too wooden... but then again he is a catachan to 50% and i think this is a fine excuse^^ he will be the first contstant to get blue warpaint (forgott the name...dang)



his barrel might be in need for some correction to the hole...it looks a tad off centre and i will see to that...

well a secret admirer has given me this good fortune of legs and heads and backpacks...as i understood this would have costed me a leg and possibly a thumb too if i had to buy for the lot...


as for the ogryn... currently i am rather unsure ...i still want to complete the ogryn and still think there is potential in the sculpting of the GS ogryn... recently i came into posession of a light warjack of warmachine... and with this item i could go more a steampunk route again...so i am in a bit of a thoughtful state so to speak...

Looking nice Vik! I myself, after watching so many Red Dwarf vids am thinking of a penal legion project,,,that's right for those in the know,,,Canaries! The fun part will be making sporty, black and yellow uniforms and making less usual characterful convict soldiers.

sounds really like fun... any ideas on what models/bitz you want to be using? i have some void minis i think could work along those lines...

Well, i was thinking with the whole 40k biut, I have some as yet unpainted IG Catachans, but will have to drop the special weapon guy. The Canaries did wear vests, T-shirts, and such.
