So being in the Army, I buy military vehicle models when I see 'em to put 'em together when I feel the urge, .

Since I've got into 40k, and have been building my Ork Army, and learning about Ork lore, tendencies and behaviors, I've also starting looking @ my models in a new light.

With that in mind, I thought I'd ask you experts...I converted my first one just slapping on spare parts & things from Battlewagons, Boyz & Trukks, onto a military HumVee model, .

It's big enough to be a new WarBuggy I think, which is what my intent is, but I wanted to ask you experts here if I could do that and just what you think in general?

So am I just goofing off here? Doesn't matter b/c it's been fun already, , but I mean, in a 40k game, if I put this on the table with regular ol' GW bought War Buggies, would you cry foul?

not at all; I've seen some much much worse converted ork vehicles, this one is quite well done, and I would love to see it painted.

That's the great thing about counts as and conversions, especially with orks. You can do near whatever you want as long as it looks SOMEWHAT similar, and most people will be cool with it.
In a GW sponsored tourny, I don't think you could get away with this, but at a LFGS or for friendly games, if someone has a problem, then they aren't someone who is playing for fun

I would have done a little bit more cutting and re-armouring on the basic vehicle as now it looks like an ork humvee, a little work with a saw and some plasticard and it'd start looking more like an orky unique model.

My initial thought was "that's too small for a trukk." Mostly moot, since you're not trying to make a trukk. It does, however, drive home the point that it looks like a humvee and the trukk assumption shouldn't follow far behind. I agree that a bit more chop work is in order.

That said, you're definitely on the right track.

OrkVee Update, finally. Still not sure if it's there, but I think I'll move on to priming and painting soon. That's a Skorcha attached to the back, .

It looks really good, that's one awesome aspect of Orks is that you can make anything a vehicle.

I'm still eyeballing my kid's school bus toy, and just dieing for him to outgrow it. It's gonna be a great Ork trukk!
