Our story begins with a Chaos player ordering a box o' beserkers. Lo and behold, when his new squads arrive, an HQ has been thrown in for good measure. If this poor little HQ had been lucky enough to be assembled and painted by the 'Eavy Metal Crew, he would have looked something like this:

Instead he has been assembled in an unfortunate spasm of plastic melting superglue, and the Chaos player abandons him. I will be attempting to salvage this orphaned model by converting him into a Thousand Sons Lord for a friend of mine. In these pictures I have managed to scrape the worst of the glue off and reshape the lines of his armor to a manageable level. I'm not exactly sure what was going on in his midsection, and I ended up chopping out about 1/4 cm thick worth of glue. You can see he no longer has a stomach....but that will be fixed eventually.

Coming next: A new head, and some GS to even out stuff. And something to cover his maimed abdomen....belt? robes?

This is the model, but after this pic was taken his head and loincloth/chains were removed

It's been a while...mostly because of some paint stripping mishaps. After trying out several different types of chemicals on this dude to strip off the black primer, he was finally looking clean. Aaand then my fiance (bless his heart) decided to help me out by priming him white...not realizing I was going to greenstuff him before that should have happened. Anyway, here's the progress so far.

I ripped off his head and replaced it with a Grey knights helmet with some added horns. I patched up his belly with some GS so I'd have an even working surface, and then added a loincloth to cover up some damaged pieces of the model. The skull is actually trimmed off of the chains that were hanging from the model when I first got him. Since the joints for the arms were a looking a little gnarly, I went ahead and GS'ed them into a more energetic pose.

Next up is a cape and then adding some Thousand Sons/Tzeechey bits.

As you can see, this guy's back is a little mangled. I need to give him a cape to cover it up, but I'm not sure if I want to use the cape that came with him or just create my own. Any thoughts?

The cape that came with him.

I'de say create your own, cause based on the pose you selected I believe it would look best to have the cloak billowing forward on either side of him, like the wind or an explosion is at his back. Makes him look much more distinguished and really kool.

I agree with what Markillius08 says, from looking at the loin cloth on the front you are better off doing your own cloak so they match in style.

Yeaahh. I noticed after I did the loincloth that it was blowing to his left and the cape was blowing to his right...whoops. That's good too, because I've been thinking that cape looks a little Wolfy. Which means I can steal it for the Wolf Lord I will eventually be building for myself

Yeah, always gotta remember that each model tells its own story. Even the littlest thing like cloaks or seals flowing in opposite directions can destroy the cohesive feel and aesthetic value of the piece.

Ookay so this has taken me pretty much forever to finish up the GSing. Also, I drank some beer and decided to start painting the basecoat and fiddly little gold bits. So ignore the messy blue and gold for now.

Now I just need to paint him up in Thousand Sons colors and he'll be looking good. Once I'm done with him, I can also start painting my awesome new thunderwolf cavalry

My favorite part of him is still the loincloth I think.

If only I could remove the cape without destroying the GS work. It
