Canoness Dianus barges into the Imperial Command Center. A sentry, near the door, steps forward. "Miss, you are not permitted here. I need to ask you to lea..." Dianus shoves him aside and hastily makes her way toward Inquisitor Coteaz, standing near a command lectern. Two henchmen immediately appear in front of their commander with weapons drawn, but Coteaz waves them aside. His brows furrow in annoyance. "May I help you Canoness?" He asks in a seething tone.

In response, Dianus shoves the Scything Talon she found in front of Coteaz. "How about explaining this?" She asks.

Coteaz's face pales at the sight of Tyranid ligament. He quickly retreats to his private quarters, motioning Dianus to follow him. Once inside, he locks the doors and returns his attention back to the Canoness. He shot her a venomous look. "Where did you find that?" he asked through clench teeth.

"Lodged in the back of one of your Black Ops Storm Troopers, floating downstream near the Twins Bridges," she replies in a baffled tone.

Corteaz relaxes a little and begins pacing back and forth in front of his desk. "Does anyone else know about this?"

"Just the Admiral and my personal Retinue."

Corteaz frowns. "Why would the Admiral know about this?"

"I wanted to confirm my suspicions of possible Tyranid invasion, but the Admiral informed me there hasn't been Xeno activity reported in this sector."

With a sigh, Corteaz collapses in his large leather chair behind his desk. "Canoness, what I'm about to tell you cannot leave this room," he said in a serious tone.

Dianus nods and is eager to learn Coteaz’s dirty little secret.

"This morning, I sent a covert Black Ops on a secret assignment to locate and destroy a bio-research lab," said Corteaz. "Unfortunately, they haven't reported back since. But…” he gestures towards the Scything Talon, “Now I know why."

Dianus jaws drop. "Why would you have a lab housing live Tyranids?!" She screams. "Are you out of your frakking mind?"

Corteaz's mouth turns into a sly grin. "I've been called insane among other things, but it's all in good faith and for the Imperium."

"Oh really?” snarls Dianus, “I wonder how your colleagues would react if they found out your little secret.”

The Inquisitor body stiffens. He opens his drawer and pulls out his Inquisitorial Insignia and a Bolt Pistol and drops them on the table. He then crosses his arms in front of his chest and glares at Dianus with a cocked eyebrow, as if daring her to do something.

Rattled by the Inquisitor's silent threats, Dianus shifts to a neutral stance. "My apologies Lord Inquisitor, but this news couldn’t have come at a worst time. Our resources are stretched and we don't have enough forces to battle both Tyranids and Space Wolves. We must stamp out this new threat before it spirals out of control. With your permission, my Sisters and I will destroy this lab and keep your secret safe."

For a moment, Corteaz contemplates in silence. He finally nods his head in agreement. "Assume the previous Black Ops team compromised. Terminate them and the Tyranids with extreme prejudice."

Dianus bows her head respectfully. "Fear not," she replies, "The Order of Faith will succeed where they’ve failed. Ave Imperator."

Spoiler:
Draw

Afterthoughts

Spoiler:
Wow, that was an intense match! The Tyranid player’s dice weren’t hot in the beginning. Rolling three 1’s for spawning Termagants and doubles for the second Tervigon all on the same turn? Ouch! Losing the Swarm Lord and 2 Tyrant Guards to Exorcists, which rolled two 6’s and a 5 for D6 shots? Holy! But in the end, he had a reversal in fortune. His Tyrannofex scared a whole squad of Battle Sisters away (failed stubborn leadership tests) and the Termagants some how survived shooting and won combat against Seraphims. And once again the tournament organizer/judge goofed, calling time when there was still 15 minutes left (I had a stop watch), which is plenty to squeeze in another turn. Thus the Tyranids narrowly escaped defeat.

In hindsight, I should have been less aggressive with the Seraphims. I didn’t expect they would get beat down by a few Termagants. Despite the Genestealers not doing much, they had a good psychological impact, influencing my deployment. My triple flamer Battle Sisters and one squad of Celestians in an Immolator didn’t do much in this game other than decimating a Genestealer squad and fighting Ymgarls at the last minute. Thank god my Battle Sisters didn’t fail their moral test on the bottom of turn 5, after the Tyrannofex blew up their Rhino and killed 3 Battle Sisters in the explosion.

.....

Canoness Dianus curses under her breath. Just as her forces had finally contained the Tyranid outbreak, one of the Brood Progenitors broke through and was escaping. "Sisters," she yells, "Fight by my side!” She and two Celestian Squads train their Bolters and unleash a storm of explosive bullets at the fleeing monster. The Tervigon’s hard chitinous shell withstood the onslaught. Four other Celestians levels their Meltagun and unleash bright flashes. White-hot beams lances out, searing into the monster’s thorax. Intense heat sears through its shell and tenderizes the alien’s meat to medium rare. The Tervigon threw its ugly head back and howls in pain. Seconds later, it locks its red beastly eyes on Dianus and gallops toward her.

Dianus pause. She had ample experience fighting monstrous creatures in close combat, but even she knew it was suicidal to attack one charging straight at her. Its bulk and mass could crush Rhinos, let alone humans in power armour.

With quick thinking, Dianus unclips her Brazier of Holy Fire and taps one of her bodyguards on the shoulder. The Celestian stops firing her Bolter and turns her attention to her commander. “When the beast is within two Rhino lengths, fire this into its eyes,” commanded Dianus. “Yes mistress,” Celestian replies, taking the Brazier. Dianus unsheathes her Eviscerator and flickers it on.

Within a Rhino length, the Celestians aims and triggers the small hand-held Brazier. A large blast of flames erupts into the Tervigon’s face. Burning promethium sticks to the alien’s head, boiling its eyeballs like soft-boiled eggs. The Tervigons skids to a halt. Clutching its face with its razor sharp talons. It wails in agony. On queue, Dianus runs forward and ducks underneath its enormous snout. She finds soft tissue at the base of the monster’s neck and jams her Eviscerator upwards. Alien goo and ichors rains down on her, staining her power armour into a deep shade of purple. Dianus furiously hacks and slash all the while evading the Tervigon’s blind swipes. With a final swing, Dianus decapitates the Brood Progenitor.

.....

“Well done Canoness!” Praised Inquisitor Coteaz. “You’ve done me a great service. Your deeds will not go unrewarded. I may even consider inducting you into my personal honour guard.”

‘Great,' thought Dianus, ‘Aside from declaring my order Excamunis Traitoris, blackmailing me, threatening me, and forcing me to wage war against his enemies, now he wants me to become his personal lackey.'

“With all due respect,” Dianus solemnly replies, “My duty is first and foremost to Faith and the god Emperor. I humbly decline your offer.”

Coteaz chuckles. “Tis a shame Canoness. Once you get to know me, you’ll find I’m quite generous to people working under me,” said Coteaz.

‘Yeah right,’ Dianus though bitterly, remembering what happened to Coteaz’s Storm Troopers.

“Let’s discuss the final phase in our campaign against the Space Wolves,” replies Dianus, switching topics.

I like how your background story tied in with the other 2 games in the tournament. Very creative writing.

My only question is....didn't Diansus already died a few times to my nids. Just giving you a hard time, lol.

That was a close battle. Honestly, I thought that you would be able to take on the nids without too much of a problem. But his ymgarls taking out all 3 of your exorcists really seemed to turn the tide (well...that and his tervigons/tyrannofex taking out your transports in assault). If only they came in 1 turn earlier....

Looking forwards to your last battle.

It's actually Hive Fleet Muloch thank you very much!! Haha but in all seriousness that was a really close and fun game, It was my first time playing sisters in a tournament so I think I did proper threat assessment, although if the ymargls were in the main building I coulda wiped out almost all of the sisters in that area. And people don't typically see the tyrannofex as a in-your-face kinda guy, glad that threw you off!

P.S. tervigon/rhino love pics are amazing!!

Great Battle Report !

I love to see my two prefered armies in a harsh fight one against another !

There was some very unlucky dices throw, but finally the game was pretty close, so it remained interesting from the start 'til the end !

Congrats on that good fight !

Great report as ever Sabr; great pictures too. Close game; loved the desperate scramble for the 'nid objective at the end as well as the Ymgarl rampage. Mixed luck too, wonder how different it would've been if the Tervigons didn't neuter themselves...
Great rep.

Thanks! Painted armies enhances the overall experience. As I recall, your Dark Eldar weren't too bad either.

I'm glad you've enjoyed reading my stories. I had a lot of fun piecing it together.

Now now, I can't have my protagonist dying every time she gets killed.

If the Ymgarls came in a turn earlier, I wouldn't be able to kill the Swarm Lord. I would definitely be screwed. There were a lot of "what should have happened didn't happened" in this game. Both Tervigons shouldn't have exhausted themselves on the same turn. Ymgarls should have came in, but didn't. Battle Sisters and Seraphims shouldn't find it difficult killing 10 FNP Termagants.

Glad to hear from you. That was a really close game.

Corrections made. Yeah, the Tyrannofex is a force to reckon with if used more aggressively. It tallied quite a few kills. If you didn't chase my Battle Sisters away, I may have won this game. It's funny your your Ymgarls came in after your Swarm Lord died. So much or Alien Cunning.

Whenever I see that pic, I keep thinking of the song "E.T." by Katy Perry and Kanye West.

Yeah, fuegan17 had a rough start. I was on a roll with both Tervigons exhausted, Ymgarls not coming in until later, a Rhino surviving assault against a Swarmlord, and later killing the Swarmlord and a Tervigon. I felt I had this game, but lady luck jump ship towards the end.

I had 4 units rushing towards the Tyranid's objective, but none made it. Props to the Termagants and Tyrannofex.

If the Tervigons didn't neuter themselves, the game would probably still ended in a draw.
