Hi All

Apart from collecting Space Wolves, Orks, Grey Knights, Witch Hunters and Chaos (!), I have decided to start with Tryanids. I have been looking for a paint job for them though, any ideas? I know it should rely on what I like etc, but I am getting a little stuck on colour scheme! I quite like the light coloured ones from GW but I would like to have a different colour scheme to GW. If you could post a piccy on this thread - that would be excellent!

Cheers all!

Andy

Thanks for that! Love the colour scheme on that one! What would the lighter colours be? I'm thinking perhaps bleached bone with either lots of sepia wash/ogryn flesh or perhaps a watered down brown (with slight red)??

Cheers

That first scheme is how I did mine and it is fast, easy, and looks good. What you will need is:
1. Greyphone Sepia
2. Astronomicon Gray
3. Chaos Black
4. Asuremen Blue

These are you basics. So, prime the model white, then go over it with 2 coats of Sepia. Now, go over the armor parts with gray, then wash with the blue 2 times. Paint the claws black, and if you want accent colors or more defined highlights, go for it. Of course, I am leaving out teeth anf eyes and all that...

Here's my color scheme:

I only realized it looked like the Starcraft Zerg color scheme after my friend pointed it out to me (ironically, he was playing Ultramarines. Go figure )

Sadly it's not a clear-cut colorscheme, but it starts with scorched brown for the skin, and Lich purple for the claws. I've actually switched to P3 paints and I've liked the results far better for finish, but GW's still produce an excellent and in some cases unique color. Good luck with the Nids!

One general rule I like on Tyranids (not that I own a single model of them), is to not use two high contrast colors; While Purple and White/Bone looks really good, Red and Blue will make it hard on the eyes and will generally pop much less.

Waaagh!

In your wardrobe, looking for Narnia.

It all depends on what colours you like. Anything can look pretty if you paint it well enough.

I have about 10 differently coloured tyranids in my army because I was testing things, but my newly finished Hive Tyrant is my favourite so far.
