So today I got a game in against a partially built/painted pre-heresy death guard army with 90% forgeworld. What he had finished was super inspiring; maybe that'll be my next army, something pre-heresy? Maybe... 1k sons? Anywho, here are the lists:

Mission: Capture and Control ( 4 objectives)
Deployment: Spearhead
I win the roll for first turn and we're off!
First off, pictures of some of his minis. They're soooo awesome!
That being done, on to the game!
Deployment
I deploy in a straight line, reserving one
AM squad as usual. I combat my other squad, half squatting in cover near my objective and the other half gonna make a run for the objective near the silo. We placed 1 objective in the forest to my right, one near the silo, one on my left by the crater, and one on his half in the craters.
He deploys relatively spread out. All 4
tac squads combat! That means he has 8(!) scoring units! 2 are in rhinos with melta/
pf, one melta/
pf is slogging, one Plasma cannon and
PW squad w/ melta are in the crater, to the right both halves with missiles sit in the ruins, in his huge ruin in back he sits half with
PW/melta and his other
PC squad. His libby w/ guard hide behind his double rhino wall. Both preds take up spots in the faaaaaaaaaar back.
He rolls to seize and gets..... a 5! and we're off!
Oh I forgot he has a melta biker too... haha
Blood Angels Turn 1
I flat out across the field at him. two speeders + 1 raven go left, one speeder goes right with the other raven. My 5 man combat squad jumps up behind the silo.
In shooting I think I manage to scratch the paint on a rhino... thats it.
Death Guard Turn 1
His rhinos move up a little and spread out. His melta biker goes on top of a hill to see what he can see. His libby gets gate off ( I fail to cancel), and doesn't scatter, landing 7" or so from my 5 man squad... His pod comes in and the dread (all shiny and sexy) stares down my raven. Everything else is pretty static.
In shooting he manages to knock down both speeders on the left as well as my raven there. I place all the termis behind it (so the
PC's can't see me

) and the dread off to the side as all the meltas, lascannons, and missiles that could get it had already shot. His sternguard open up a can of whoop ass and kill my 5 man assault squad only losing 1 marine (out of 6) to gets hot from their bolters.
End of Turn Thoughts
That didn't go TOO badly I suppose... I could have lost both ravens, but good cover rolls saved it. My termis are in good position to take on the pod and his dread; my disembarked dread can munch up his melta squad on his objective. My goal for now is to take down his plasma cannons, they are a massive threat because I can't risk losing my assault squads as they come in; I'll only have 3 troops now and they all count! I also need to try and silence those predators. After that I'll be in a good position to start taking out his troops one at a time....
Blood Angels Turn 2
I get my
AM's in and combat squad them with a melta in both. One lands behind his ruins on his side (was a risky move
lol), and the other lands near the forest. My raven moves up 12", meph and the furioso getting out to wreck face. My other furioso makes it close to his combat squad in the crater. My last speeder moves up to pot shot his green rhino.
In shooting my melta squad on my bottom right manages to melta down the multimelta biker! woo! My raven, in a marvelous display, explodes BOTH predators (rending
AC into one, melta into the other!) My combat squad over that way shoots some stuff into one of his 5 mans I think killing a marine?
In assault meph clears out one
PC squad and consolidates... 1". not enough to get into cover :( My left side furioso only kills 3 marines, leaving the melta and sergeant alive as they run 8" and I consolidate 1"... meaning they'll get a good melta shot into it; rats. My termis explode the drop pod and immobilize the dread, losing no-one. My other furioso clears out his other
PC squad, consolidating to face his front armor to the
ML's.
Death Guard Turn 2
He shuffles around a bit for movement. He moves up his foot melta squad to shoot the raven, his 2 man squad rallies and comes back 3" toward my dread. Nothing much else really. His 5 man squad in the green rhino gets out into cover. His libby + squad hit again and don't get canceled, landing RIGHT next to meph :/
In shooting he wrecks my left side dread with his two meltas there. In the middle he UNLOADS his sternguard (all combis, etc.) into meph... with a deep breath I sign relief when his plasmas and meltas only get 4 wounds on him, so I don't go to ground to try and save any of them. The rest of his shooting doesn't do much, he stuns and immobilizes my remaining speeder. Oh and he tears an arm off my remaining furioso with missiles.
In assault I wreck his dread good and consolidate toward his 2 man squad. Nothing else is in combat.
End of turn thoughts
Not too shabby! I didn't lose meph, I only lost 1 "death unit", and my termis are out of combat now. His sternguard are in a great position for me to munch on. I'll easily clear another 2 or 3 troops this turn, maybe 4 if my
AM's do me proud! This will leave him with 1 troop choice left; meaning hes playing to draw at that point.
Blood Angels Turn 3
Both Am groups move up to assault a troop squad each; my one on the top has my
PF in it. My furioso moves up to hug on his other combat squad there. My terms move to give love to his 2 man squad. Meph moves into assault range of the sternguard. My raven pivots around to unload on his last melta crew in the middle.
In shooting I manage to cause the melta crew in the middle to go to ground (I shot all my missiles, melta, and
AC at them to try and paste them). In a silly display he makes 2 6++ covers on guys on 6 wounds, saving the melta andf other guy (the
PF was in this squad and he took 2 6++'s rather than the melta). I shoot his other 2 troops in the ruins and forest, I think I mighta killed 1 somewhere.
In assault meph rolls double 6's, killing himself before he can charge
lol. My furioso charges his 5 man, killing 3 with his 3 attacks and causing them to run! I consolidate 1" and move back out of the ruins as he can't shoot his missile this turn. My top
AM squad murders the squad that was there, consolidating into the ruins. The termis (obviously) kill their 2 man squad. In a fantastic whiff display I kill 1 marine in the
tac squad in the forest, and he kills 1 back and we stick >.>
Death Guard Turn 3
He only has 2 units to really move with. He flat outs his rhino onto the silo objective. His sternguard advance to rapid fire doom into my squad in the ruins. His other squad rallies and stays on the table edge to shoot from next turn. His 2 man pinned squad looks around in disbelief.
In shooting he does something like 4 or 5
AP 3 wounds to my squad in cover... I only fail 1 save! woot!
In assault I yet again whiff, and he whiffs. Darn it all!
End of turn thoughts
All he has left is 2 mobile rhinos, a pinned squad, and 2 guys at the table edge, plus his sternguard.... shouldn't be too much of an issue to clear out his troops by the tree objective and score a solid win. I just need to get rid of those sternguard before they port over and rape my other 5 man on my objective!
Blood Angels Turn 4
I move my top
AM's to help my guys in the trees. My speeder can finally shoot. I move my termis/furioso to engage his sternguard. My raven boosts over to take shots at his rhinos.
In shooting I wreck his green rhino finally.
In assault my furioso and termis combine and kill off about 5 sternguard plus the 2 man marines that were pinned. In return he kills 3 termis, and his sternguard book it. I consolidate BOTH termi and the furioso to follow him off the table. I charge my
AM's into his
tac squad and guess what happens...? I kill 1 (even with my
PF I whiff) and he kills 2 from the orginal squad! That leaves 2 left from that squad! damn power weapons.... Both squads stick
That scythe is doing a world of hurt!
Death Guard Turn 4
Termis run off the board. His
tac squad on the objective backs up the rhino slightly.
He shoots my raven; doesn't do anything. His 2 man squad on the table edge lobs a missile and misses my furioso.
In combat I FINALLY KILL THAT DAMN SQUAD!!!! WOOT! I wish I woulda taken a victory picture >.> My 2 man squad consolidates into the forest, my other squad consolidates north.
Blood Angels Turn 5/DG turn 5
I held a 2 to 1 victory at this point with no hope of my opponent drawing. We played out my turn and I manage to kill his 2 man squad, get his crater objective, and immobilize his last rhino. His turn he shoots the raven again for no damage. On turn 6 (if there was one) I wouldn't have done much and he wouldn't have anything to do but sit there.
VICTORY FOR THE BLOOD ANGELS!!!!
End of game thoughts
His army looked fantastic (what he had finished anyway, plus what he was doing with it) and it was an honor to face. Can't wait to see the finished product!
This game was rough for a few reasons;
1) he had so many weapons that could wreck my vehicles face it was rediculous. 6 lascannons, 2 missiles, and 5 meltas! I got lucky he only wrecked 3 the first turn; a few key cover saves helped me escape and get to where I needed to. Yes, I know razorspam and things have just as many if not more; however, those armies are point and click. This army he was using required a bit of thought as to where to aim his guns.
2) He had sooooooooooo many troops! Plus being combat squadded meant that, yes, while I could kill a small 5 man squad, it left me open to another 7 squads to shoot my ass the following turn. Thats no joke!
3) Anti-meta. He was running against the meta going almost all foot sloggers. 50 marines is a LOT of power armor!
4) Experience. This guy plays in a LOT of tourneys in the area and I'm sure hes got far more experience overall than myself (he was playing old 2nd ed chaos marines in this army as well
lol)
This was by far the most exciting game of my trip; I only wish I could get in more!
Hope ya'll enjoyed this game and, as always, feel free to leave comments
