Subject: Flesh Tearer Blog - Tanks + Spraygun failures :/
My name is Eeps and I'm a lazy painter. It has been 4 months since I seriously attempted to paint a model.
I really really struggle to get motivated to paint things, so I thought if I started a blog, it may enable me to actually manage to paint a bit more. It certainly couldn't manage to get me to paint less at least.
With that out of the way, I'd like to tell you a bit about myself. I'm an Ork player. I like my army's to drive up to stuff in vehicles, jump out and then punch it in the face. Whilst massively entertaining, I decided it was time to take on a new army project and possibly try something completely different.
The Army
After reviewing all of the options I decided I'd like to play an army that fell out of the sky and then punched things in the face. As such, the angriest of all red flavour marines, the flesh tearers resonated with me. They have such a love of punching things in the face, their chapter has almost managed to wipe itself out through foolhardy assaults. This is something I feel I can get behind.
With an army suitably chosen, I felt it was time to look at some potential lists.
The Lists
I generally play at the local GW, so I'm looking for enough models initially to do various 1500 point lists. Version 1 looked not entirely dissimilar to this:
After playing a quick test game (against other blood angels), reserving everything and DOAing everything that could and reservign normally everything that couldnt, I discovered I was in love with deepstrike. It works quite well, whilst being at least somewhat likely to go horribly wrong if you take big risks with it. This appealed enormously to my inner Ork, so I decided to produce an all DOA/DS army:
1 Land Speeder Typhoon #1 @ [90] Pts
Heavy Bolter; Typhoon Missile Launcher
1 Land Speeder Typhoon @ [90] Pts
Heavy Bolter; Typhoon Missile Launcher
Models in Army: 41
I think I'm in love. Look at all that face punching ability!
The modelling process
I decided that there should be some magnetisation. Certainly the arms of all the sergeants to allow weapon swapping, but also the jump packs of the marines to allow for a potential razorback focused build
After one vino too many, and an unfortunate drink and drilling accident:
I decided that razorbacks were for big girls blouses and the rest of my marines could damn well be surgically welded into their jump packs.
There's been little in the way of advanced modeling techniques, other than a couple of weaponswaps (whick I still need to GS):
And a bit of sanguinary priest kit bashing:
The arms and packs on the sanguinary priests are magentised also (which is probably why the one on the left looks a bit askew. These are mostly mashed together out of apothecary, sang guard and a couple of death company bits from memory.
I also decided it would be wise to magentise up the vehicles:
Note the gunner being so angry and eager to punch things he is trying to shoot down the moon.
Sponsons on tank+ turret also magnetised for swappery at some later stage as well. the recesses for the sponsons are the perfect size to drop a magnet in, its excellent!
The Painting
I've just completed painting up the flamer squad. After working through a scheme with the chap from local G Dub, it was time to pull out some brushes and give it a crack.
Doing a scheme that I believe was originally from WD for flesh tearers + extra abuse of black washes as I feel that Flesh Tearers should be grimy (only big girly ultramarines have time to clean their armour, my lads are too busy finding faces to punch).
Reds are Mechrite -> Red Gore -> Black Wash -> Highlight Bleached Bone -> Red Wash
Blacks have codex grey highlights then the big black wash per above.
Eyes are snot green -> scorpion green
Bases are shadow grey -> Space wolves grey, over black with scorched grass.
Here's the results thus far:
Cretacia Wants YOU! To punch face
Overall, I'm pretty happy with the first squad through the process. Certainly not going to win any prizes, but it'll look OK across a table, and that meets my needs perfectly. Now I just have to deal with this:
OHMEGODS
The Bonus Content
Orks executing Santa in the bombed out remains of a gingerbread house on Xmas Eve:
Ill update as I manage to paint things. Now I've got used to painting power armour (these are the first marines I've painted in about 15 years), I might have a crack at a special character. Failing that, my bits for the Termi Sang Priest should arrive soon, so there may be photos of him also.
Thanks for reading!

Given the overwhelming response to the opening post consisting of Hollywood film offer, proposals of marriage and literally hundreds of pairs of underwear being thrown at me, I thought it would be remiss of me not to post a further update.
I thought I'd start by unveiling my pro level paint station set up:
Note that its important to differentiate between your wine glass and your paint water glass. Its a mistake I've made once so far in my painting career, and I hope not to repeat it. FWIW I'm working through the Homicide Life on the Street boxset. It was the pre-cursor to The Wire if you've never seen it, and I'm really enjoying it as I missed it first time round.
Like that fat kid everyone went to school with who was terrible at sport, but always had the nicest gear, I thought I'd treat myself to some new paintbrushes. They seem lovely to use thus far FWIW!
The evenings progress. I've never really enjoyed painting vehicles, so I thought I'd try and get one of the speeders out the way whilst I was feeling motivated to paint. Just the Mechrite Red base + Red Gore done thus far. I think with the back and the bumper in black + the antena (?) at the front will be enough black to tie in with the infantry.
I've not used mechrite red over a big area like this before, but had a bit of trouble with coverage. It took around 4 thin coats to get a decent cover on the vehicle, and came out rather more orange-ish than I was anticpating. Have I got a duff pot, or is this standard?
Sanguinary Guard Termy. Kit bashed from a normal termy+ grey knight apothecary+ grey knight massive sword bits.
A second assault squad,
featuring:
Pointy Sergeant
Melta McBeaky
And Friends
I also had a bit of an impulse buy and bought the BA Furioso Dread Kit. I didn't really have a plan for it, but thought I'd have a go to see if it could be magnetised for either libby or normal dread options. Fortunately, its pretty easy to do so:
Stick all the requisite bits together
Superglue big magnet into the bottom of the torso
Drill hole where the top of the "sidearm" guns meet the dreadnought arm, and drill hole+ drop small magnet where sidearm cable meets the body.
Drill and superglue bit of paperclip in corresponding place on the gun options. Drill small hole and magentise at top of cabling.
Chop off the "wrist" of the close combat arms, and drill and drop a small magnet towards one edge
Hack a small bit of sprue into approximate shape for the bottom of the blood claws to fill the missing hole, and superglue magnet in place towards the front of the inside of the "wrist"
Dread now goes together into all combos:
Libby
Claws+ Bolter
Grapples + Fists + Flamers
I've also bought a box of Sang guards, and currently coming up with some paint schemes. Im thinking of a very dark, burnished gold, with the wings in black. Any other suggestions?
Best blog i've read for a long time. Very entertaining!
Great modelling too, i've been thinking of doing a couple of squads of FT to give my BA a bit of varience. I have seth hanging around so I may just get him painted!
Keep the updates coming!
Exalted!
Automatically Appended Next Post: P.s. Nice choice of vino!

Achieved a little bit this week: Have punched out a squad of assaulty termies:
Pro paintstation No 2:
Note tray tastefully coordinating with bedroom furniture
Reds on, blacks redone. Wine number two. Helpful cat is helpful
Squad finished. Im pretty happy with these lot, although they took a while. Gave them a run out in a game the other day. Lost a claw termie with FNP to a shot off a big shoota on an Ork Trukk. He better be embarrassed
Sarge
1 Claw Guy
Other Claw Guy
One hammer dude
I've done the basics on the sang priest, but totally ran out of ideas for him. I was thinking of a purple power sword ala Mace Windu, but a bit unsure what to paint white so he looks suitably priesty. Any pro tips?
Dude, love the painting. Its great to hear a confession of 'a lazy painter'. If I was being honest I'd say I'm lazy at painting too, but I normally say that I'm too busy with gaming.
A completely painted and based army looks way better than a mix and match, some units painted army any day. Keep it up!

I decided to put together a Librarian as they seem to suit jump lists quite well.
Decided to kitbash one together to make it a bit novel, below is result:
A bunch of bits from GK and GK termies, then some general bits out of assault and tac boxes + a sanguinary guard clenched fist. Magnetised for jumpy or normal backback. Still need to clean up a bit and GS some Inquisition "I"s out of it.
I was aiming for a double clench fist as he shoots blood lances from his eyes. In hindsight, he sort of ended up looking a bit constipated. Oh well :/
He's going to be called Giles after Anthony Head in Buffy.
@Commander Cain: Thanks for the input mate. I tossed up going for all white like yours, but it would be a bit much considering how dark the rest of the army is I think, so I'm just doing one shoulder and his nartheceum in the end. Should be pic ready soonish. He's going to be called Doug after George Clooney in ER. Then my 2 normal sanguinary priests can be Carter and whoever the bloody hell Goose out of Top Guns name was...
After a couple of crap days at work I went on a massive spending binge and bought 2 stormravens, a couple of boxes of DC, another furioso, some scouts and astorath. Looks like I'm in this one for the long haul!
I like what I see. A rogue trader/ 2nd edition space marine attack bike was the first 40k mini I painted almost 20 years ago and I still have a soft spot for them. You do them justice good sir. Keep it up.
Correct. Despite countless millennia of evolution, technological advances and civilization, we're still monkeys throwing feces at things we don't like.-Zed.

Although I'm not sure you meant to reply to this thread, thanks anyway :p

Seriously though, nice work on all this stuff
Cheers mate, I was going for the "dropping in out of the sky" type pose, but I believe I may have pulled the "put your hands in the air and wave them like you just dont care pose"
My Zuzzy battlemat has arrived as well, so I might have a stab at painting that up tonight. It looks like a really good bit of kit.
After a lot of painting inactivity (as promised in initial post!), I've grasped the bull by the horns again.
I've bought a lot more models since last update and put everything together, and can no longer avoid painting any longer. Thought I'd get a bunch of razorbacks to allow for some mech based fun. As both readers of this blog may have noticed, I rather enjoy magnetising things, so naturally I had to magnetise the razorback turrets.
I decided the best way to go about it would be to leave the pegs on:
Magnet in each corner of the guns:
Corresponding magnets in the gun cowling to produce a passable result. Note the highly inexpert las/plas conversion!
Complete batch of tanks:
and primed:
Initial forays with citadel spraygun have been poor :/ Lots of pooling, and not much actual paint stickery:
So I've wiped off the excess and will have another crack tomorrow after buying more paint as ive gone through all my mechrite and blood red (although the below result hardly shows it!):
In a more succesful gambit, I've also printed up some decals onto decal paper, given them a good varnishing and they are now drying!
Not the most thrilling day of hobbying, but at least slightly more paint is on some of the army!
