The rust effects were done by mixing the forgeworld rust pigment with scorched brown and some paint thinner. I then put small dots of this mix randomly across the model and airbrushed more paint thinner over top of it before it dried. This causes the paint to diffuse in mottled rust colored blotches which I later touched up with bestial brown and more pigment to create a streaky effect. Some of the darker areas also had a wash of catachan green to help cancel out the "redness" of the rust and make it more neutral.

Moving flat out..

Congratulations, Joe.

I've had the pleasure of seeing your stuff in person at Showcase and was in complete awe of your Orks.

I also got to play your Forge World IG army at the Massacre earlier this year.

You are definitely deserving of the award. I unfortunately cannot provide any critiques on your work as your far supercede mine.. but this piece as well as the other orks I've seen are amazing.

- makes me want to 'start over' on my Ork Horde!

Grats on the best in show, as far as critiques here's a few:
-Add some contrast in as your piece is honestly very flat.
-Build a base too better mesh with the model and add some depth as it stands the model looks more like it's just laying on a board honestly.
-You want a model too tell a story when your entering it so put some time into that side of it as it will show too the judges.
-Your Weathering was good but maybe look into some really good oil painting guides.

All in all it was a nice piece and grats on that win.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

That looks like junk, it's all rusty, and worn, and totally messed up, unworkable and impractical, way to tall, it looks shoddily built from scrap garbage and it's completely...

Perfect.

nice!

How many Space Marines does it take to screw in a lightbulb.

6, 1 techpriest and 5 tacticals that stand around trying to pose like badasses.

An Ork, Space Marine and Eldar are walking down the road. They see a Chaos portal that has a sign on it. It says: 'say what is true or be sucked in'. The Space Marine says: "I think I'm the bravest" and walks past safely, the Eldar says: "I think I'm the most agile" and walks past safely. The Ork says: "Me thinks..." and gets sucked into the portal.
