So I have a problem, I've collected a 40k army (1850 Chaos Space Marine) and I've always been a fan of 40k but I find the game to be a bit to repetitive in the sense that everyone plays pretty much the same thing; Power fists and Melta weapons every where!

Now I've always preferred fantasy > sci-fi and I have collected/painted fantasy models and I am the current leader of a Mordheim group (I use the term leader loosely). I personally would drop 40k and go into Fantasy at the drop of the hat, but the problem I have is that I don't know how to play fantasy (I mean I know most of the basic stuff that is in 40k) and I don't have any friends who want to play fantasy.

So I guess the question is: Should I just stick with 40k or should I start a fantasy army and start playing Pick-Up games (which I personally hate)

Well, if you don't like playing 40K, and don't want to change 40K armies to sort of "shake things up" with the power-fist and melta spam... you're kinda stuck, really, into convincing your friends to play Fantasy or doing the PUGs you don't like.

Maybe check out the FLGS in your area to see if there's a Fantasy league or regular Fantasy battles or something like that? This could let you start off with smaller armies and get a feel for the game, maybe even try out different kinds of armies to see if you prefer, say, Brettonian Griffon Knights over Imperial Pikemen.

Outside of that, sticking with 40K might be your only option, though maybe you could switch your focus to either more fluff-first armies, or (if you're already doing that), go for more WAAC-armies or Cheese-Marines? Or you could outfit your Chaos Army with half a dozen CRASSUS ARMORED ASSAULT TRANSPORTS and crush your enemies under track, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their players.

Or something.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

I looks to me like you are more tired of a certain style of game, as opposed to 40K itself. It strikes me that you play in a group of competetive people who want to win, and use list that reflect that; unfortunatly, tournament style, competative lists tend to be Spammy.....and thats the issue.

Moving to Fantasy isn't necessarily solve anything. Fantasy tournaments are just as Spammy, it's just Spam of a different flavour.Plus, you've alreaady said you don't have any friends who play fantasy.

Your options as I see it, are pretty varied; they could include...

Carry on with 40K, but play either a different army or just think outside the box a bit. Play fluffier lists, play lower points levels, swap armies around...Just try and keep it fresh and reign back the need to win..

Play Deamons. This will allow you to play both 40k (in which they're a bit of a challenge, but ultimatly fun to play) AND Fantasy (where they are a power Army...very well respected)

Suck up the dislike you have for pick up's and start a fantasy Army. If you want to play fantasy that bad, then you'll get over your dislike; if you can't , then you don't want to play that bad, right??

Get Isle of Blood, paint both sides, then persuade a mate to play with with you...maybe they'll like it ba

Play Epic Armageddon. It's a bloody good gamesed in the 40k universe, with free rules. It avoids a lot of Spam and you can fit a huge army (5000 points) easily on a normal sized table...OR Warmaster, which is the same except fot Fantasy (and in 10mm rather than 6mm)

I would agree on the above, I have CSM and generally I find playing any marine army monotonous after a while, especially since you often get marine vs marine. This is why I have 2 different xenos armies! I suggest getting a non SM army. Hell, you might even convince someone to trade armies with you.

Daemons in particular is a GREAT idea. People rarely know how to handle them, and most special weapons are useless against them, so enemies tend to improvise, making for an interesting game. Plus, if you have CSM, you propably already have some daemon units, and can easly proxy the rest to try em out.(how about you get the Daemons codex, and play Bezerkers as bloodletters, plaguemarines as plaguebearers, TSons as Pink Horrors etc).

In addition, Daemons can be moved to fantasy, if you ever manage to find people to play with in the future. They do require rebasing, so you may have to do some extra work magnetising the bases, but you now you got an exellent entry army for fantasy, AND a more interesting 40k army.

That being said, if you dont actually like the models or fluff of 40k, well, you propably should look for a Fantasy game club, simply because liking your army is the most important thing. If its just gameplay though, yeah, having different races DRASTICALLY changes the experience.
