If you want some cheap wood for basing your terrain on home depo will sell you a huge sheet of thin but strong cabinetry backing stuff for around $3. If your not in the US this advice might be a lot less useful though. Any ways Hope this helps.

Also don't be like me and use all of the good parts from the Imperial Sector kit just to make 2 buildings when you don't have any yet.

Foam Card (Foam Board, Foamcore Board) can be got at graphics art shops. It is available in 3mm, 5mm and 10mm thicknesses. There are two versions, the bare foam one and the laminated in thin card. Card laminated is better for building terrain.

Don’t bother with Citadel PVA glue. You can get PVA glue much cheaper at DIY and graphics art shops.

High Density Polystyrene is thick foam boards, usually pink or yellow, sometimes laminated in silver foil. It’s used for insulation. You should be able to find it at DIY shops. Get the one without lamination.

Wood board can also be found at DIY shops. You can also get MDF, chipboard, plywood and fibreboard there. It usually comes in fairly big sheets, but they will cut it down smaller if you want.

In the US high density polystyrene is called Extruded Polystyrene, and it's not very available on the West coast(illegal as insulation in California).

Avoid Expanded Polystyrene(the packing material you get with electronics and such made out of little beads of foam).

Expanded polystyrene is not too bad to work with as long as you get the high density stuff, I does take more work because if you just paint over it you can still see the expanded beads, not a good look. Dry wall plaster sticks good to it and then you can carve/chip detail into it like bellow, just takes extra time. Its easy to cut with a hacksaw and glues well with PVA wood glue.

Check Home Depot or Lowe's for:
Insulation foam; usually sold in 4'x8' sheets in thickness from 1"-2"

PVA Glue; Usually Home Depot has Elmer's white clue by the quart or larger. You can also get wood glue if you want an even stronger bond.

Fine textured Sandpaper

Large brushes

You can also pick up either MDF or plywood in different thicknesses if you are building bases for the terrain.

Check Michael's or similar craft/hobby store for:
Foam Core

Smaller brushes
