So for a while I have been lamenting being unable to run Vulkan Hestan in tourneys, since I don't have one. Meanwhile, in secret, I've been converting my own Vulkan for general butt-kickery. Finally, I have assembled all the parts I need for my creation. It isn't painted yet, but I wanted to get people's feedback before I finish gluing everything down. What do you guys think?

Thanks ninja. It took me a long time to find all the pieces I wanted.

He doesn't look as cluttered as the real model, which is a plus for the practical standpoint. I would happily play against this, I'm all for conversions.

I like most of it, and would gladly play against it.

Some Critique:

1) I don't like the lascannon bit or whatever is used as the gun attached to the pfist. If has a very eldar look to me, which isn't SM at all. Look at the second pic, especially.

2) One of the skulls (the left one) looks like it needs some more smoothing.

3) Why the skull shoulderpad?

It looks alright, but the armor seems very basic for someone in master crafted super quality armor. Also why is a lascannon a flamer?

Also the spear is ridiculously overly large.

I'd maybe consider adding some texture to the cloak. I think it looks much better than the official gw one, but I could definitely see someone being TFG and arguing you didn't model Kesare's Mantle on him.

The spear is way too big for my taste. Other than that I like what you did. The pose looks good.

@Heffling: The bit I used for the Gauntlet of the Forge exhaust is indeed the end of an Eldar weapon. I liked it because it looked nozzle-y and the shaped bit seems like it would do a good job of protecting the firer from the stream of napalm. I agree it does look a little more fluid than the typical Imperial stuff, but I kind of thought that Vulkan's works might be a bit better looking than the average Mechanicus assembly line. If you are talking about the skulls on his backpack, then thanks for pointing it out, I hadn't noticed. And, out of the shoulderpads I had, I just liked the skull one best.

@ph34r: I agree about the armor, I'm just not sure what to do about it. And it's an eldar bit, which I thought looked better than just gluing a flamer to a powerfist. And yes, the spear is huge. I don't think it's so huge that a Space Marine couldn't wield it, though. Normally, I hate overly large weapons, especially in certain forms of animated entertainment, but I kind of like this one.

@Oakenshield: Thank you for mentioning it. When he does get painted, I was just going to paint the cloak in a scaled pattern, since I hate, loathe, and despise green stuff.

Thanks for the comments everyone!

Thought about popping a Mechandendrite on him?

I reckon he'll look pretty nice with a retinue of some kind, as if he's directing some pain on to some heathen scum!

Looking forward to seeing this painted.

I hadn't thought about it. I have servo-arms, but where could I get ahold of a mechadendrite? I wasn't aware of any models that had them.

My only problem is the weird flamer thing. Look for old school hand flamers, they are tiny and work perfect for being stuck on a power fist. Other then that, I like the mini, nice work

Yeah, alot of people seem to dislike the flamer. I liked it, but I'm going to start looking for a replacement bit.

I like the position of the spear, makes the pose dynamic.

Every Dakkanaught gets a 4+ Pinch of Salt save.
When you suffer a Falling Sky hit, roll a D6 - on a 4+ the hit is ignored as per the Pinch of Salt save. On a 1-3 panic insues - you automatically fail common sense tests for the next 2 weeks and get +7 to your negativity stat. -Praxiss

Sorry mate, I did mean the servo arms. I forgot thats what they are called on the mini.

The spear could do with some detailing, I wouldn't say shorten it, but if you keep it that big, you need to make is ornate as buggery.

The rule seems to be: The size of a piece of tech, the more ornate, gothic and mean it needs to look. For imperial tech anyways.

As for the servo arms: If you do put them on, put them in a really nice, dynamic pose, giving them a big of character. I hate the static looking arms on some of the tech marine models. I like the look of the arms that look as if they have a mind of their own and are covering the back of the wearer.

I may try to scrounge up a servo-arm and see how it looks.

The hood looks a bit silly and he looks like he stole a bunch of Eldar tech and slapped it onto his armor. If it's painted nice, I can say "Yeah, it's looks good" But for now, I don't particularly like it.

So...any advice on how to make it better Chowder?

And do you like the standard GW model for Vulkan?

I'm thinking about filing off the gems in order to make it look less like an Eldar weapon.

I do have some advice: Pick a new head, perhaps? Or use a DA body with a closed robe. Perhaps fill the gap between the bright lance and the Powerfist better. Add a small lighter to the end to make it a bit more flamethrower-y.

I do like the spear. It fits in my mind on how the spear should look.

Thanks. I hadn't thought about adding a lighting mechanism to the gauntlet.
