Please read this;
So question; has anyone had a more difficult time stripping GW brand Primer and Paint off plastic figures and vehicles?
I just did a paint strip-fest (to bad it was not a different type of strip-fest, lol) anyway, I had a bunch (2 LR, Rhino, WW, Vind, DPod, 3 Dreads, and about 50SM) of plastic models from various trades/old/etc. that I needed to repaint, so I got out the Simple Green.
ALL the models stripped fairly well, except three vehicles (a whirlwind, LR and Vindicator painted; green, blue, and assumed primed black) and 25 SM? What the heck?
So then I got out the "Easy-Off" oven spray...
Again, these models did not strip? What the heck?
So, I did some thinking, where did I get those models?
I got them from my buddies’ son, when the local GW closed and he wanted to get out of the hobby, and I gave him a better deal than his Dad, lol...
The reason this is strange, is he “only” used GW products (Paint and Primer) to paint the models, as he “specifically” wanted to be “independent” of the way his father and I did it.
(I just gave the vehicles a “light” sanding and repainted them, btw, but the figures???)

Did you try soaking them overnight in the Green?

Wholly shnit he could not have used all GW products. I have models primed in chaos black, sprayed with blood red spray (WHY GW WHY DID YOU STOP MAKING COLOUR CANS!?) painted with Citadel paint and sealed with ard coat and then GW matte varnish. They strip like Jasmine to a rocking Latin beat.
Have you attempted to scrub the figures immediately after the bath( I will assume yes). And do you happen to have an ultrasonic cleaner? Automatically Appended Next Post: He may have used Testors enamels despite what he said. That's what comes to mind all of a sudden.

Yes, he used the new $15 GW Primer, that we advised him NOT to use, and he used GW paint, and the new GW washes, all of which he was taught to do by GW employees at a GW store, very well btw! (but do not match my army)
The complete opposite of what we suggested to him, tweens, go figure...
75% of the blue and about 50% of the green (both of which he had washed with GW wash) and 0% of the black (GW primer) came OFF after the East-Off, which was after the 24 hour Simple Green soak.
Automatically Appended Next Post: So, I am wondering if the Simple Green "lost" some of its potentcy because I had so many figures in it at the same time?
But then again, the Easy Off did not work very well either?

I don't stop using my Green until it turns black, and then only when I notice it works fine. I use an ultrasonic cleaner which is like frigging magic. If you live close to a harbor freight they sell a good (not great) one for about 30-40 dollars that has his and fits two rhinos or a land raider (ask me how I know) the heat setting vastly improves the stripping power as does the agitation. If you don't have or don't want a new toy you could try warming up water to make a mix with your green or just warming the green (not boiling) to try to lift some of the paint.
If heat, vibration, and green don't take it off...well it probably won't come off at all.
BUT things I've used before with varied results: DOT 3 brake fluid bubbles paint and it will slough off but prolonged exposure makes plastic brittle and it smells awful it's greasy...it sucks. But it will remove Rustoleom auto primer which green will not.
90% isopropyl, do not keep plastic in for long periods of time it sucks the petroleum oils from them and makes them brittle. It's a solvent after all. But if it's acrylic or latex paint it'll strip it. I put drops onto a toothbrush (of the gun cleaning variety) and it rubs paint right off.

Like i said...Biostrip is the way forward.

I'm not attempting to be asinine but isn't Windex not sold in any form in the UK because it contains Ammonia?

@greenplanet LMFAO
As for everyone that had suggestions; THANKS!
I have been stripping plastic models for years with Simple Green and it has always performed fine, (usually metal with easy-off oven cleaner, as it is faster).
This was just a strange instance, for these models only, as all the rest stripped fine, and since no one else on DAKKA seems to have had this problem with GW Primer/paint/washes, I guess it is just a fluke?
The 25 figures I have left will get re-painted instead...
thanks again all!

Was the simple green the concentrate or was it the suggested cleaning strength (which is watered down quite a bit)?

That's because you can use the ammonia to make crack. Strangely you can buy pure ammonia? And also make crack. Work that out? Vinegar cleans glass better than ammonia anyway so no great lose. Unless your a crackhead of course.

Yeah the whole Windex thing is dumb as hell. No one uses windex to make crack when straight ammonia is around. Sometimes I think the EU exists solely to mess gak up for modelers: Testors Dullcoat.

We have stupid laws on a lot of things. It's the British way that some crazies are actual proud of? Ha ha.
Rioting and looting is quite the fashion right now. And the corrupt police do nothing?
Anyway this is well off topic so I'll just mention Nitromors as an excellent paint stripper for metal mini's and it's also great if you have any human remains you need to get rid off.
