Subject: The Blood Angels and the Gehenna Campaign

Freaky Flayed One

So, I recently returned to 40K from a nearly 10 year slumber and picked up the new Codex: Blood Angels. Back in the day I played Necrons and Blood Angels because I wanted to play two armies who were polar opposites, one was awesomely shooty and the other was awesomely close combaty (new word?). Most importantly though, I loved all of their fluff. Sanguinius is my favorite Primarch by far, and the Necrons are just this mysterious army that appears without warning and annihilates or harvests every living thing they find. SO, I find myself sitting here, reading through Codex: Blood Angels, having a jolly time, until I get to page 10 - PAGE 10!!! Seems kind of early in a codex to read something bat crazy - Blood Angels, defenders of the Imperium of Man, teaming up with NECRONS??? WAT THE ?! Why would the Necrons even care about the Tyranids? The Necrons are supposedly the most technologically advanced race, and also the most EVIL race in existence, and should have little problem wiping out a few buggers that happen to land on their worlds. Why do they need to team up with Space Marines to beat them? Not only that, they go their separate ways afterwards!!! I can understand Dante feeling a sense of honor, not fighting a recent ally, but the Necrons?? Please, they'd turn around and flay them instantly, they have no sense of honor. Honestly, I realize this may be old news but how do you people feel about the way the story in this universe is heading? I'm certainly worried. Hopefully Codex: Necrons isn't this bad... EDIT: Page 16 -_-'

Fine, because it's not really an alliance. It's just fighting a common enemy, with no meaningful contact between the two.
We saw the same thing during the 13th Black Crusade--but nobody made a stink about it then.

Just seems crazy to me that Necrons would ally themselves with anyone, at all, ever. If somebody is fighting alongside you, they are an ally by the standard definition. I can understand that they stopped fighting each other to concentrate the might of their individual military forces on the incoming massive waves of Tyranids, but afterwards? I would have expected nothing but onslaught brought upon the Blood Angels by the Necrons... just really bad writing in my opinion.

It's bad writing--until you realize that the Necron concept is being revised, a lot.
No longer are we going to be seeing Lords as mindless automatons, but we will see them gaining personalities and quirks. That only makes sense, since they were after all once sentient beings.
What we saw in the 13th Black Crusade could be considered "allying"...until you realize that they never actually had contact with each other. There were a few instances where Necrons actually came to the aid of Eldar(Eldar!) forces, and just left afterwards.
They only engaged the Eldar or Imperial forces when they got in the way.

Very few disagree with that and I am not trying to touch on that, however it IS written and you said it wasn't.

So I guess what I'm supposed to be doing is interpreting the 3rd ed. Codex: Necrons as, basically, an 'awakening' in terms of the Necrons beginning to revive themselves and their civilization? Following that, this upcoming Codex is essentially going to be the full 'revival' of their civilization from dormant sleep? I would never question your reading skills either, based on your profile pic

"The impromptu alliance" is in the codex.
It really is an alliance.
Impromptu--made or done without previous preparation; suddenly or hastily prepared, made, etc.; improvised; having the character of an improvisation.
Alliance--a formal agreement or treaty between two or more nations to cooperate for specific purposes; a merging of efforts or interests by persons, families, states, or organizations; the act of allying or being allied.
As you can see: alliance can mean damned near anything, but the most common characteristic is cooperation and communication.
If such a thing does not happen--it's not an alliance.

And it is literally described as an alliance, so they did occur. I am totally missing the confusion. One can communicate and cooperate without previous preperation. And it could keep going on for aeons, if you want and the literal statement is still true.

And I'm saying that alliance is a bad word to have been written down, because it bears no characteristics of an alliance. Automatically Appended Next Post: kirsanth wrote:And it is literally described as an alliance, so they did occur.

Find me anything citing that communication occurred or some agreement was made.

And again, I said alliance is a crappy word to have been written.
We've been over this with the stupid "Bloodtide" crap. Ward phrases things terribly, but people also make a huge deal out of everything.

And you left out the impromptu part.

Alright alright ladies, ally was the wrong word, issue settled. Can we just focus now on how dumb this is:
And as edit to my original post, I meant page 16, not 10, not sure why I wrote 10, because it's definitely 16.
