I want to try my hand at airbrushing a tank that i am working on, and was wondering if there is a better item to use to thin out the citadel paint than just regular paint thinner. Or if there is something all together different i should be doing or using. Thanks.

Water works well enough if you add a little flow improver.
For faster drying you can use alcohol (eg Tamiya thinner or windscreen wash). Be aware that these can make the paint look artificially light as it goes on 'dusty'. Varnish will knock it back.

You can use a thinner made by a company called Vallejo. Its 32ml and it mixes well with GW paints well.

You can use special airbrush mediums to thin acylic paints - I use Liquitex Airbrush Medium and am very happy with it - another brand I've heard a lot of good about is Airbrush Medium from Golden.

I use a mix that I make in a large pot that has a drop tube. It consists of roughly:
60% windex (with alcohol)
30% glaze medium (I use windsor and newton acrylic glaze medium)
10% slowdry
A small amount of flow improver.
so far, this has given me pretty good results and the paint adheres a lot better to the surface then just diluting with water when thinned to similar viscosity. Just a few drops of paint into your feed, a few drops of this thinner and then stir it with a regular brush untill you have the right consistency.

I'm another one for concetrated car windscreen wash (the blue stuff), specifically Tescos ownbrand.
I also have the Vallejo airbrush thinners from when I started but have found the windscreen wash so good I have not yet opened it.
Windscreen wash also has the added bonus of being dirt cheap.
