Nice work Arbitorlan. Really like the chaos lord with jump pack... that pose makes him look so imperious!

I am really liking the colours on these guys; one of my favourite EC palettes.

I also really like your Jump Lord and Lucius; those old Raptors are some of my favourite Chaos models.

Thanks, everyone. I'm off to Zagreb for a few weeks with work, so I thought I'd airbrush up a little bundle of stuff so that I can do all the detail painting while I'm out there. It's time to GO TZEENTCH...!

First, I have 20 old-style Thousand Sons (with the metal heads) and a FW Thousand Sons Dreadnought. Sprayed pink and airbrush highlighted.

Then, a collection of old metal 1ed/2ed Daemons sprayed pink, blue and yellow, including an original Lord of Change and one of the old Daemon Princes. The two big yellow Horrors with beaks are gonna be Heralds.

And finally, enough of my 32mm bases base coloured to do all the Thousand Sons. The Daemons will all go on resin 32mm/25mm slottabases that I'm planning to make and cast when I get back.

Progress! First thing I did this week was get all the basic colours onto the Tzeentch Daemons. They're going back in the box now until I get home and then they'll get an oil wash.

More progress!

I've just returned from Croatia and here's where I'm at: as well as the Daemons above, the first batch of Thousand Sons have all their base colours done, and are ready for transfers and weathering.

A big batch of bases is also complete and washed.

And I've started on the second batch of Thousand Sons: enough flamer guys to get me up to 3 squads of 9 Rubric Marines, Ahriman and five Scarab Occult terminators converted from regular Tartaros and WE 'Egypt Sons' parts.

Man the old daemon minis were great - had some absolute character. I'm also enjoying the alternate take on thousand sons - more purple never hurt anyone

Yeah, pink is a totally Tzeentchian colour so they should fit in well!

UPDATES: Decals have been applied, all the TS stuff has been sponge weathered and it's all been given a coat of gloss varnish, ready for the oil washes. Almost there...

Ok, it's December and I'm in FINISHING STUFF mode!

Here's the Thousand Sons complete. I'm still waiting on a couple of Discs to mount the last few.

Scarab Occult (converted from regular Tartaros and WE Egyptian bits)

Rubric Marines (three squads of 9 including Sorcerer)

Dreadnought (the old FW resin model)

And then I completed all the Tzeentch Daemons! Again, I have one more Herald to do once the Discs arrive.

Well done Ian, here's to getting stuff done

Daemons look especially sweet, way to rock all those color shifts in the name of the changer. Much love for all those ancient metals too.

Thanks everyone - just a few more additions here. A Herald on a Disc and a classic Tzeentch Champion on a Disc that I'll probably use as a Sorcerer.

Another couple of additions as I was getting various things done this weekend. Ahriman on a disc, and an old metal Beastman Shaman on a disc that I'll be using as one of those fancy Tzaangor Shaman guys...

Started on the new Chaos Renegades infantry. I felt like I needed to get more differentiation between Cultist, Militia, Disciples and Marauders, and with my club playing slowly through Vraks, I thought the Tallarns weren't looking Chaosy enough. So, new plan is as follows:

Chaos Cultists: as I currently have - a mix of Cawdor, Redemptionist and plastic Chaos Cutists with some odds and ends thrown in

Renegade Militia: Blackstone Fortress traitor guard mixed with some Cadian bits and more to differentiate them. Looking at four or five infantry squads and a couple of mortar units.

Renegade Disciples: FW Renegades, mixed with Cadian and Blackstone bits, and converted to look just as spiky as the militia guys. Looking at thirty or so models, covering disciples and command squads.

Marauders: Beastmen, built from the Blackstone Fortress ones, with added fantasy bits and some old third-party models with bigger guns. Mostly set up as murder cultists but maybe some sneaky batsman snipers too!

Here's the first batch of militia conversations.

And I attached some Blackstone heads to some duplicate FW torsos, did some cloaks and set them up for casting so I could make more militia weapon teams.

Nice breakdown Ian, appreciate the effort to delineate the different flavors of non-astartes Chaos mortals. I'm also excited to see how these come together, as these are the first 'modern' army of plastic renegades / cultists I've seen using the Blackstone bits. I feel like there's demand for GW to just release the full renegade squad kit and stop sitting on it (my brother and I have a theory that a Renegade release ala GSC v1.0 (so like a squad or two, a couple characters and a vehicle upgrade sprue) is somewhere in the pipe, could theoretically be opposite the SOB release), but I haven't really seen people actively getting their hands dirty with what Blackstone provided, at least not on an army-scale.

SO, it's been a while but here's a ton of progress I got done over Xmas and January.

First, I finished off a load more of the old marines on the new bases. This also included making up the numbers and building some extra Chaos Marines and some more metal Chaos Terminators I had lying around.

Then, since Heresy is a bit dead nowadays, I decided to chaos-up the two Emperor's Children units I had bought and make them work in my 40k army. Both the Phoenix Guard and Palatine Blades had some Chaos bits added and swapped around with an additional model to make 6-man squads. The Phoenix Guard will be run as Chaos Terminators with power axes, and the Palatine Blades as Chosen.

Seeing the new Obliterator models made my old spindly ones look really small, so I took off the arms and re-did the bodies using some Bitspudlo Cyborg Warmachine models

While I was there, I also used up an old pack of Maxmini hammers and built a squad of hammer chosen.

And finally, I got all those Blackstone Renegades painted up and mounted on trench bases as new infantry for my Renegades and Heretics army. They've been converted a lot, with loads of bits from the Cadian and Cultist sets, to give them a load more variety beyond the 7 BSF models. The old infantry (Tallarns) will be retired and maybe await repainting back to an imperial army.

After this, the plan is to do a batch of Renegade Disciples (using the FW Renegade kit) and a load of Renegade Heavy Weapon Teams using a mix of the two. I'll also have a bit sort-through of my existing cultists and weapon teams, and re-organise a lot of the models into useable units - possibly with different styles of Cultists for the Renegade army (on trench bases) and the Chaos Marine one (on ruins bases).

Wow man, impressive two truckloads of pink Chaos Even more so as it's (almost) all Old Chaos given a new lease on life, rather than binned and replaced with NüChaos.

Great volume of work going on. Really inspiring to see how you tackle such large batches of painting.

I think the old Tzeentch demons are my favourite of the last couple of pages.

Oh yeah, I love me some old models. I prefer having armies of older models anyway, but I really don't mind as long as the army vaguely matches. Like, I'd happily have a load of 1ed Obliterators, but I wouldn't mix old and new ones in the same army!

Thanks! It's mostly because I really like having large armies and playing with only painted models, but I really dislike actually painting!

Yeah, back in 7ed I'd basically stopped playing 40k and was only playing Heresy. I still found the game system a bit of a mess but it was LESS messy and fun to build armies. My Renegades & Heretics had basically become a Militia and Cults army, and I had planned to just turn all the CSM into a late-Heresy EC army, using the Noise Marines as Kakophoni. I got the Phoenix Guard and Palatine Blades to help with that, and was planning on doing whitte stripes down a lot of the R&H Malcadors and Basilisks to make them switchable for EC.

Once 8ed came out I MUCH preferred the system, and it heralded a bit of a 40k resurgence in my local club, to the point where Heresy went from being the most common sort of Warhammer played to basically never being seen. We wrote the 8ed Heresy Project, which was used for a while, but the general downturn in Heresy gaming kinda stopped interest. Which left me with these guys lying around, as well as some anachronistic pink vehicles I can't really use in an R&H army any more (Gorgon, Shadowsword, Thunderbolt). I've also got a (smaller) Imperial force going on, where all the vehicles are dark grey, so some of those might get repainted, leaving pink details or stripes or something so they can work for both armies!

More renegades for the pink horde!

First, I finished off a new Renegade Commander and rebased the two old FW Rogue Psykers so they can play as Malefic Lords.

Also, five of the Rogue Psykers from Blackstone Fortress to use as a squad.

Then I completed a batch of Disciples - these are made from the old FW torsos on Cadian legs, with various bits folded in from Blackstone Fortress and additional GS work to give them all the same sorts of fur and cloth cloaks that the Blackstone guys have.

And finally, the weapon teams for the Militia - six Mortar teams and two Heavy Stubber teams.

These renegades look fantastic. I love the commander and his big hat and shoulder pads. The bases have a lot of flavor, too.
