Well I am starting this thread for my WIP Black Templar w/ lighting claws. This guy is a conversion using several different bits I had around the old painting spots.

So to detail out the items I am using:
Assault Marine legs and right power fist
Devastator squad sergeant head
Devastator squad front tabard
Black Templar upgrade pack left power fist, shoulder pads, sword, front chest piece, back pack, and standard
stand space marine back chest piece
Assault Terminator lighting claws.
Finally hobby chains for ships

So I have come to hate the black templar modeled chains for there weapons and such. I decided to upgrade and get the small chains from a local hobby store. These chains are designed for hobby ships, imagine that perfect size. So I shaved down the power fists so there was nothing on them. The assault marine power fist was really easy just had to shave down the skull on top of it. The Black Templar power fist was another story.

I then wrapped the power fists with the hobby chain. I shaved off the Assault Terms Lighting claws. I wanted almost a Wolverine (x-men) look to the claws so I only used three for each hand and angled them outwards. I then cut strips of chain to cover the lighting claws themselves. I honestly think they came out fantastic. First time I think something in my head actually came out onto a model exactly how I wanted it lol.

So after complete assembly I got to try my had at airbrushing for the first time. My wife bought me an airbrush for my birthday early that day. Awesome right!!! Subliminal messages while she slept really payed off .

The airbrush application was flawless. For all you future painters out there it is worth the money to go to hobby lobby and pick up the nicer airbrushes and get the double action ones. They let you control the amount of paint going threw the airbrush while your applying it absolutely fantastic. Well with out further distraction here are the first picks I took of the airbrush based Black Templar Captain.

More pictures to come of my first steps of painting.

Congrats and welcome to airbrushing! The model is a bit dark at the moment so can't really comment on the hobby chain work that you've done.

One thing I noticed though is that pose seems a bit awkward to me. I've seen many poses where models are trying to do two things at once, in this case, point with the right and swipe with the left. If you try to do this pose in the mirror you should be able to see what I mean as the pointing arm would be in the way of left arm that's about to come about for a swing. Something that would look more natural is if the left arm was brought in closer to the body to be in more of an idle pose. Anyway, the wolverine claws look cool and I'm looking forward to seeing how you paint this guy with the airbrush

Thanks for the tips. The partially painted model is up so maybe that will help you see his pose a little better. To dictate his pose in words his right arm and his head are pointed and facing to the next xenos/ heretic in his path of destruction. His left arm is staged by his side because after his lunge to the pointed target it will execute the killing blow. I hope he new pictures of him partially painted helps point that out. If you have any other questions I'd be more than happy to try and answer them.

Alright guys so close to final pictures and complete work.

Need some advice, point in the right direction, or help. So I have weathering powers and I wanted a rust effect on the metal beams on the base. What is the best to apply weathering powders?

And the final touches on the model will be a mudding effect for the bottom of his legs and the base. I am going to add some chains hanging from his lighting claws and I don't know if that cloth on his front really matches I think I am going to change it.

So here are the pictures of the close to finished model.
