Salutations,
This is my blog (mirroring-ish the one I've got on blogspot www.40-k.blogspot.com) about the trials and difficulties faced by me as I try to create a force worthy in both army list design (posted in [coming soon]) and in the painting an modelling side of things.
As of now I have bought for myself a Brotherhood Champion and a squad of Grey Knights, and so shall be uploading photos and description of my experiences. This will also be a place where i will open ask for advice and help from the dakka community, cause let’s face it, I'm a painter but I want to get better.
So stay tuned for the next post....

Okay then, its been a while since I've posted here, and i think i should start doing so, rather then adding unpainted models to the showcase thread......
Still I've been busy in my time away. I've aqquired and grand total of Draigo, Stern, Crowe, 13 Terminators, 15 dudes in Power Armour, a dreadnought and a vindecare assassin.
Now due to the nature of this aqquisition (swaps!) some of the models are hardly perfect. But thats okay cause it menas i get to play with them
I have also moved away from the orginal standard silver knights colour scheme twoards a more fun and visulaaly interesting (I hope) grey.
So, this is the entirely of my army so far

This was test peice, and I think I needed to do a complete wash with badad black rather then a selective one and do some extreme highlighting with either fortress grey/white or astronomican grey.

Now this guy came to me with 3"s of paint on him. So I set to work with my stanley knife and low and behold, I found plastice beneath! Still this left the model looking rather silly, so I took a cardboard box and plated him in cardboard. Its not a perfect job, and I may go back with green stuff to touch up edges, or make details ect..

Interesting, I like the test model, the white and red on the face plate is a great idea, one I'll look at trying to incorporate into one or two of my own guys.
If you are open to feed back I'm happy to post my thoughts on the models.
- The paint looks a little thick, have you considered using some water to slightly thin the paints, and instead of doing one big coat try a couple of thinner ones? It will increase your painting time a bit so perhaps give this a try on one model
- White, hard to get right even I mess this up lots of really thin coats bascially like 13 or so of water white on the part you want white, the object is to give a smooth coat with little blemishes (you can see that if you do one thick coat it has streak marks etc on it)
- Invest in a small drill for the barrel, it just adds more to the over look
I'm liking the bases, how are you doing those?

Thanks Knightly, I didnt actually expect a reply from you lol.
The watering down is something I've been advised to do by a couple of people now, so I'll be doing that with the next model, and the white seems like a massive pain, but I will be trying it.
The base on the termie is just some green stuff in random blobs, vaugely crushed down and painted black with mechradite red-blazing orange-sunburst yellow in the cracks. Eventual plan is to add some snow effect to the tops (and on extreme tops of the models) to give it a bit more life. Highlighting is done with reds and orange
With regards to your white helmets, what do you use as the washes/highlights??

With my helmet on the Paladins?
I start with a Deneb Stone base, then wash with Devlan Mud. After that is dry I do about 3-4 very thin layers of bleached bone and edge highlight with Skull White.
Hope that helps

Right then, small update, no pictures as of yet.
Decided that my ove of falchions shouldn't be dismissed in the slightest, so I'll have 12 of them on the strike squads
This should be fun

Salutations, I bring you an update. However due to the frankly shocking nature of my camera-poverty (in addition to my general modeling related poverty) I only have one photot and it was taken on my dads phone camera, casue thats better then my actual camera camera
Still here it is
Now please do excuse the quality. However you may be able to see that the model has been painted in differnt ways for different sections. For example the chest has 2 differnt styles, one a darker and more messy finish the other having been brightened and highlighted. I feel that i should also add that this guy was an opportunity for me to mess around, have a play with diffrent styles, some freehand ect ect like on the holster (hidden due to poor quality of brushmanship :p) and the bone effect on the helmet. So if you spot any particular part that you like/dont like/want to comment on please do. If you think the terminator had better ideas please say.
Thanks in advance
PS. Will hopefully be begging access to a decent slr+photographist+fancy extras and so will hopefully have a full painted model (shock horror) and some decent pics, till then please bear with me!
