Hello,

I have played Warhammer 40,000 for a while now, and have played many a race... but I always felt as if I needed a race that backed up my ethnicity. The space Marines were a great choice to start off with, but none of the background remotely came close to something Caribbean (If I hear one more person say Pedro Kantor is hispanic I am punching a baby). So I decided to make my own chapter (based off the salamanders... for reasons I will later state): Kuban

Also a note... I am not the best painter in the world... I just kinda did this blog because I wanted to show that Cuban Pride... if I could...
So comments would be nice

History:
A Space Marine Chapter using the home world of Kuba, they are descendants of the Salamanders Geneseed. Having a very tribalistic population, The salamanders b elived that a chapter formed here would create very powerful marines. One distinct feature of the planet is the cultivation of a drug known as tobacco. More potent and dangerous then the Guard issue Iho-stick, this drug was later banned to the imperium due to its ability to have anyone who smoked the substance hooked. The space marines take much pride in the fact that they can in fact smoke the drug, and take great efforts to roll them in the harsh conditions given in the factories of the planet. These skills in the forges have also somehow translated into the usage of flame weapons, since the process of creating these Kuban Tobacco's is quite harsh in the heat of the forge.

The first leader of the Kuban Chapter was Martius, who believed essentially that everyone in the Imperium was as importatnt as the next. The Ministorium ignored his slightly heretical views, since they did not want to get involved fighting a space marine chapter. Sadly, as time went on however, each leader continually began to view the imperium in a very distasteful tone, seeing that the idea that every human was created equal was far from being enacted. As of now, the imperium has enacted certain sanctions on the space owned by Kuban Space Marines, and the current Chapter Master Fidelius Castrous is biding his time to see what the future hold for his marines, and for the imperium as a whole. (the history will expand when I get more ideas from me, or you guys )

poor blending/ shading of the colors. I would strongly urge you to thin your paints significantly before you apply to your mini! Try to use inks or washes for the detail parts like the Crux Terminatus. Good luck and keep painting.

Way too busy, and you've got to thin your paints. It looks like you're glooping them on with house paint. Try simplifying the scheme a little - instead of painting red white and blue, try painting half the model red, half the model white, and do blue details like eyes and heraldry. This will let you incorporate all three colors in while not making it a huge mess.

Like I said before... I am really not the best painter. I came from painting tyranids for a long time so I am used to really simple yet gruesome colours and painting skin and bugs... It is hard for me to translate that into armour :/

But I am trying guys I think you will like my tanks more gah!

Besides that...

Here is Chapter Master Fidelius Castrous (a stand in for Vulken)... the east coast hurricane Irene has left me with a lot of time to paint

(feel the flames of Kuba!!!)

Now I MIGHT NOT KEEP THIS MODELl, cause I kind of want to get this model (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/LUGFT-HURON-CHAPTER-MASTER-OF-THE-ASTRAL-CLAWS.html) and add the wings too him and add some green stuff beard and a cigar! Maybe even a cuban revolutionary hat would be great! Tell me what you think

By the way, the wings on all the upcoming heroes are there because Saints are a major part of Cuba, and so I wanted to incorporate some sort "saintly" images with all my heroes of the chapter.

Oh and I am from the island itself my friend! Born and raised in Oriente, Santiago of Cuba... so yeah I am a bit of a guajiro

The color is bad at all, but I agree with other posters that it is wat too busy and too much to look at. I would at least paint the aquillas either a solid white, gold, or silver color to give a little contrast to the rest of the armor. I would also go back over some of the models and refine your highlights a little bit more. The colors of the highlights are great though.

4250 points of Blood Angels goodness, sweet and silky W12-L6-D4
1000 points of Teil-Shan (my own scheme) Eldar Craftworld in progress

650 points of my do-it-yourself Tempest Guard
675 points of Commoraghs finest!

Mini Update time!

I tried to do what you guys ask and minimise the amount of highlight I did... but I kept the sharp contrast of colours... If you ever visit or see buildings in Cuba they always have those wonderful sharp colours... which I attempted... maybe failed... to do... but anyways...

Fidelious Castrous lol...

No but I really like how you're putting down the colours. Especially the shoulder and backpack of that beak sarge are just total class. It looks a little messy as others have said, but you just need to thin it down and neat it up a little and it will look absolutely great.

I understand what others are saying, but for a painter who said you're not too good, the ida is great and to incorporate it into a Space Marine Chapter is just class. Kudos for you my friend! IMO i don't think it looks busy; it's nice to see a colour scheme which isn;t just block blue like the smurfs. Great idea and fluff!

I must say I had my reservations when I saw the first terminator but it's good to see you took all the advice to heart. The first tac squad looks pretty good All I'd say is (even though they do have that whitewashed-then-boldly-painted carribean vibe) keep at least the bolters quieter. Just plain gunmetal guns would stand out nicely from the red-white-blue chaos.

Painting style is a bit expressionistic, by that I mean it's certainly thick and chunky application in areas, but boy this army screams in COLOR! It's a real shocker to the eyes and I love that, fun stuff. Love to see the radical armies like this!
