They wanted to distinguish them from WHFB Orcs, notice how the Elves are Eldar and the Ogres are Ogryns and the Dwarves were Squats. Only thing that was kept consistent was Chaos, as originally the WHFB world was meant to be in the Eye of Terror.

I think Orcs are based on a multitude of different living creatures and cultures, pigs maybe because their so filithy.

You're mixing up Dungeons and Dragons with Tolkien. The classic D&D orcs were Ms. Piggy type pig-snouted peoples, although their design has been gradually shifting away from that since at least second edition.

I know they are debased Elves, not saying anything about that. But they are described as having pig like features. Automatically Appended Next Post: OK, maybe I'm wrong, can't find a good Tolkien source right now. But then what do Tolkien orcs look like eh? Book wise, obviously.

From Tolkien, a philologist (someone who studied historical languages) in his life both before and during his becoming a novelist:
