Well I learned oils when I first started painting figures. To me, oils are great for larger scale figures because of ease of blending. Oils take forever to dry and you dont have to layer like you do with acrylics. Since I started painting mini's a few months ago I have pretty much gone to straight acrylics. There are real disadvantges and advantages to both mediums and in my opinion, acrylics have a much tougher learning curve. I know some may disagree but thats just my experience. I dont think oils are really the best medium for mini's but I am sure there are people who use them for mini's. But if you look at the history of figure kits back when they really took off mainly because of Shepard Paine, that was the medium of choice back many decades ago. Acrylics are much more forgiving though. I know that was a bit long winded! Hope that answered your question
