Just a bit of a synopsis because I am quite tired after a day of work and an evening of warhammer!
So he took several of the new units (Mournfangs, Ironblaster, firebelly) and utilized new items as well (hellheart, dragonhide banner) and overall I can say that the new ogres got a lot deadlier!.... in shooting that is.
He took 2x4 leadbelchers and the iron blaster, plus fireball from the Firebelly. He was shooting at me a pretty good amount and killed a great deal of Marauders, a few knights, and a couple MoK warriors.
We learned that the new Mournfang calvary are still, in fact, calvary and should not go into powerful units unsupported when my MoK warriors wiped them out in one round of combat.
We also learned that the hell heart is pretty deadly considering it put 1 wound on my Lv4 and killed my Lv2 caster!
Overall I came out a good bit ahead and I am sitting here thinking that ogres will have new toys to play with but will ultimately have the same problems as they did with the last book.
I will write some more up about the battle tomorrow maybe, but I wanted to post this so people can see that the new ogres are hitting the tables!!

What equipment did he give the mournfangs? if he gave them Ironfists, please tell me he remembered his Parry saves. you get Ironfist parry even while mounted.

Funny that you mentioned it Templar! He did forget them lol. But like I said, d3 impact hits plus 7 attacks each and stomp is a lot of hitting power, just not enough to wipe out whole units.
Mournfang definately need to combo charge or flank charge stuff.

I actuall did the math and found out that it takes 54 warrior attacks to kill a single Mournfang rider, and then I realized that I forgot to calculate the Parry save(and too lazy to go back and recalculate)
4 mournfangs in return should have 14 combat resolution against warriors with shields. 18 if they dont have shields.
He must have rolled really poorly, a unit of 6 mournfangs on the charge should easily beat any infantry unit that isn't in buss formation down to needing snake eyes for a break test. if they have the Dragonhide banner...
then again, the unit costs 500 points. it better wipe just about anything out on the charge.

Could you post your math GT? Because my unit of 14 warriors w/ mok and halberds put out 28 attacks at ws and str5 and dealt about 5 wounds, 3 sticking through armor. He put out no wounds in return (aside from impact hits) and he broke, ran, and was caught two turns later.
Now he was only running 2 mournfang to test them out, not 6, but 6 mournfang with dragonhide banner is quite an investment! You would need to build your whole list around them so they could shine.

Ahh only a unit of two, I dont why anyone would bother with a unit of two. They dont get any rank bonus!
I guess its a way for GW to say "see, the box set is legal! Now cough up the cash for x3 mournfang boxes!"

Unit of 2, there is the problem.
Everyone is saying 4 is the minimum.
anyway, Mathhammer time.
3 unsaved wounds, 3 failed parry saves, 3 failed armor saves(3+ against Str5), requires 3+ to hit.
so the math is 3/(5/6)=3.6 wounds to get past parry. 3.6/(1/3) = 10.8 wounds to get past armor. 10.8/(2/3) = 16.2 hits. 16.2/(2/3) = 24.3 hits to cause 10.8 wounds.
so it seems like you actually just did enough average to kill that one mournfang. Still, you HAVE to have the Halberd and MoK to do this.
2 mournfangs is also much cheaper then your unit of Warriors so the result was to be expected.
the Halberd's str increase basically doubles the effectivness of the Warriors against the Mournfangs.
If he had had the Dragonhide banner and run a unit of 4 with full command we would have expected a much different result. a unit like that is 360 points. about on par with a medium block of warriors.

My warrior set up is 272pts.
Like I said originally, him charging such a unit was a mistake. If you took a full 6 man unit with dragonhide banner, the foot print would be huge, not too mention the points would be coming away from the already limited numbers... I am expecting people to use the mournfang like chariots and to support bulls. Add in the thundertusk to ASL everything around and you could wipe out alot of anything... Including warriors!

You got Flesh to Stone off on them in the 2nd round, of course they couldn't kill them.
that and I failed a DT test when I charged so those 2 wounds you caused actually stripped my rank. If I had that rank you wouldn't have been steadfast.

No offense to the new ogres, but I think you will run into alot of problems with the mournfang if you run them into 30 strong blocks solo. Unless you literally max them and try a deathstar build or something with them...

I did the math and Str3 WS3 needs 108 attacks to kill 1 Mournfang with Ironfists and HA. HEs need 64 attacks.
They are actually capable of hitting blocks of 30 and winning. Naturally you need to consider the exact situation. Halberd WoC is one unit you do NOT want to slam into.

I think more testing needs to be done because we all know that math-hammer is not necessarily right lol. I suppose i am adhering to general rule of not sending Calvary in against RnF unsupported. I also think the MF have great movement which could give them better target selection than just a block of clan rats or something with ws3/str 3

Of course,
The jury is still out. Time needs to show if they are effective, and the calcs didn't take any magic buffing into account. I will definitely have to factor in some additional variables.
We do know that Halberd armed warriors are bad news for sure.

Just curios - for the Firebelly, did he run him with any gear, i.e. Ruby Ring. Or, was fireball enough to make him worth it?

I have now played 2 games against the new ogres and I can now add experience versus the Stonehorn to my list! The firebelly has seemed to under perform in both games, but I will admit that he is a tough cookie! and the breath weapon+gw can make him pretty tough in a challenge. For gear I know he is running him with a dispel scroll and a something else (I'll have to check his list). Mournfang in game 2 ended up breaking and running down a block of marauders after I lost 21!!!! to the Maw spell. But ended up getting stuck in on a 20 man block of hw and shielf warriors, which they could not break. Eventually a flank charge from the good ol' halberd warriors, again, put them in their place! Stonehorn lost two wounds to my dancing Bloodcurdling roar sorcerer lord before making a charge into my knights. I felt that this was a poor target because he lost out on thunder stomp, but he did kill 2 knights and managed to hold my knights in place for Iron guts to kill (though the stone horn was thoroughly destroyed in the second round)
