Hello and thank you for taking the time to read my blog.
My friend has been telling me for a while to get on Dakka Dakka and start a blog on one of my NUMEROUS Projects. Why! i hear myself saying well I’m one of those people that has loads of ideas on what they would like to do, into loads of different gaming systems, moves from one project to the other without completing the previous one and is never happy with anything I produce. By keeping this blog I’m hoping to keep on the straight and narrow and work on one idea at a time and get some feedback from my fellow hobbyists.

So why Dark Angels?

I've been playing Warhammer 40k since my mate (as above) came home one day with this new shiny box that he had bought with his birthday money way back in 94/95. My first choice was Space Marines and on learning that the Dark Angels were the Emperors first and with all the good fluff that GW used to put into their work I was hooked. It’s a shame because the big selling point for me with DA was the whole hunt for the fallen and the dark secrecy surrounding them, I feel that recently for me DA have lost a lot of their feel and it was for that reason i actually sold my original Dark Angels army. Eventually after REALLY regretting my mistake I decided to start collecting Dark Angels again as they are my first and only and so here we are.

My army so far

I have actually collected my second army since the release to the latest codex so I already have a small collection in various states of repair. Sorry about the image the camera is not the best in the world.

My force as at the start of the blog

4 Terminator Squads
Beliel
Terminator Chaplin
Drop Pod
10 Man Tactical Squad
5 Man Scout Squad with sniper rifles
Devistator squad with 4 Plasma Cannons
Veneralbe Dread
Dreadnought
Chaplin on Bike (Not Pictured)

I cant even begin to list all the bits and bobs I have in my loft that i have accumulated over the years that Im going to restore and rebuild.

Here is a couple of my favorite models so far.

Combat Squad

Terminator Chaplin

Drop Pod

Dreadnought

I intend to start building my list and using this blog to keep you all updated as much as possible. The rule is that I can't start on another other project until I finish the one I have started first !!!!!

Project I - Started 8th September 2011

Ravenwing squad

So it all started with a Chaplin on a bike that was bought for me a while ago when I was toying with the idea of a ravenwing add-on to my list I actually painted this quite quickly as previously stated I have neverhappywithmypaintingitous and am not very happy with the job on this but tell us what you think.

But he needs an army to lead and I really want a ravenwing contingent as I’m gearing towards a Deathwing/Ravenwing main theme to my list so picking up some old bike bits and with some masterful trading with my mate I have managed to put together a force of 6 bikers and an attack bike. I have actually already started this project a couple of weeks ago and managed to do 3 bikes already and here is the result

I originally went for a more textured colour on the feathers on the bikes using bleached bone and Sepia ink but my neverhappywithmypaintingitous kicked in so I had ago at doing them white instead which I know believe gives a much better result. You cannot see it well but I still add some shading to the white feathers as explained below.

Painting Scheme Part I

Priming the bike all black I then added the foundation stone colour (sorry i forget all the paint names and can be arsed to go in the loft to check) to all the areas that are going to be white and as that dries off I had chainmail to all the metal engine parts and the trims around the body work and barrel of the bolters. I also paint the bolters with the foundation red at this point.

I then take the foundation light brown (again sorry) and paint the seating and the roll mat on the back of the bike. By this time the feather areas are dry and I painted other these with pure white and repaint the bolters with red gore.

Once all the primary colours are on I shaded the mini. Using Devlon Mud I covered the seating and roll matt. I tend to not water the ink at this point as Devlon mud works so well on the brown and I like nice dark shading for these areas. I then uses the black ink over the engine block trim and brake pads
Unfortunately I ran out of time tonight and will update on how I’m going to paint the handle bars screen and highlight in my next update.

Looking good "friend"

Nice to see you finally posting! The pics don't look too bad.

The white on the bikes is 10x better than before!

One thing though, this "masterful" trading, what am I getting in return?

Keep it coming mate, expect to see those bikes on the table for next game!

Project 1 Updated - 10/09/2011
I've had a semi productive night tonight managed to finish off the bike i started the other night and start the base colours on another one.

Painting Scheme Part 2

I did the shading on the white feathers. To do this all I did was mix some Devlon Mud with a little with to make a nice grey colour. Using a fine brush i just deposit the mix in the corners where the feathers meet to create a little shade.

For the highligths I have just dry brushed battle grey on all the raised edges then I went over this again in areas where the light specifically picks up edges with Codex Grey. I also added blazing orange to highlight the bolters and some Tallarn Flesh on the leather seats and roll matt.

Driver was next nice and simple, highlight the same as the bike. For the crest on his chest i just painted a coat of Dheneb Stone then simplly washed over with Devlon mud then picked out the edges with a little stone again. For the icon on his shoulder pad simple base coat of Deneb and paint over with white.

Here is the finished model put togehter ive added some writing on the bike and some ravenwing icons to the front wheels to finish off

I have even managed to start the base coats on another bike tonight, starting to look at a nice little force.

Once again thanks for visiting my blog. Once i've got the rest of the bikes finshed I will start on doing some nice bases any suggestions on the theme/style?

Great looking army! I love the way you have painted everything so far.

UPDATE - 11/09/2011

Just a quick update I'm afraid.

I have had no time this weekend so I've only managed to get another bike painted but I have started to prep the bases. Sorry about the pic quality.

Bases preped by filling the gaps with filler, this stops what ever i decide to base this with from sinking through.

Im hoping to get the last bike painted and start the attack bike this week although its going to be a busy one, stay tuned.

Update 20/09/2011

Thought i had better put a quick update up as it has been a while since I last posted. Have I done much?? Well not really Kids, Rugby, Work and Wife seem to take up all my spare time at the moment but enough about me here is what I have managed to get done.

Attack Bike

One night this week I managed to get away and finish off my attack bike.

Bases

I have finshed off the bases tonight. I decided to keep them nice a simple as the bike takes up so much of the base there is not much to display.

I decided on a road theme with and bit of debries and rubble thrown into the mix to add character, The Sgts base is a little raised to mark it out from the rest of the sqaud. Im quite happy with the results.

Whats left to do

* Finish Highlighting the final bike
*Repaint the Sgts Power Sword
*Paint all the bike display screens.

*Start on the teams landspeeder !!

Thanks for watching I'll keep you posted. Remember CC is most welcome I could use a little more input please

Anyway, looking forward to seeing them in action!

WOW I've not posted on my blog for a while so I better explain!!!

I know that at the start of my blog I said that im keeping to one project at a time and to keep motivated but my very good friend had an idea for a sort of league where we earn points for what we paint based on challange set. The idea behind this is to get me and my friends working on something different so I have picked up my guard army (SORRY! Dark Angels), Emperors_Champion will be doing his Tau and our mate Picto his Grey Knights

Now I know I've not posted for a while and I cant remember the exact order that the challanges were given in so heres the story so far.

Challange 1 - One week to paint a unit of our choice
I Chose to do my 2 armoured sentinals really only becuase I got behind in the challange striagth away and almost missed the deadline so did something quick and easy

Challange 2 - One week to paint and objective marker
I went with a little out post theme for this one using a couple of bits from the bits box

Challange 3 - Hmm i cant remember exactly but im sure we the next one was a two weeks for a troop choice.
So i decided to have a crack at starting my Infantry platoon. Now I didnt have to paint a whole platoon choice so I went with starting with a platoon command and trying to do an infantry squad as well. I started by doing a Platoon command with an Lt, Medic, comms and plasma guys unfortnatley I had an accident with the spray varnish and id ruined the paintwork and had to repaint a new squad.

Challange Bonus - An extra 5 points for doing a special character or unit upgrade.
I went with the commissar

Challange 4 - One week to do a Stratagem.
Ok so we had to pick a Stratagem out of the apocolypse book to use in future battles and build something to represent it . In keeping with my army theme I went with and OP point to represent orbitial bombardment Strategem. i made the sandbags from clay and the tripod using a morter sprue and pair of binos from the special weapons team sprues. I thought this was a little simple so I also decided to do a mini that would go with it and as a bonus I could use him as a Master of Ordenance.

Challange 5 - Over Xmas to comple a flyer.
Now I have just had my Vulture delivered from Forgeworld and was very tempted to go with this but with Xmas close i didnt have time to purchase the magnets and spray i need so I went with doing one of my Valkyries.

Now the deadline for the Valkyrie is today and I'm waiting for the next challange and I'll keep you up to date.

Please ignore the dates I neet to rest my camera again

@M0rdain = No prize , These challanges were created to keep us interested and motivated.
@Swordwind Thanks for the comment, for the whites I undercoated in Denb Stone then went over with shull white finishing off with a mix of black wash and white for the darker shaded areas.

Ok , so challange 6 has been issued

Emperors_Champion
".. to create a unit that will be considered vital . This unit will be compulsory to story games. This unit will be concidered as a vital objective to the enemy, so choose wisely. You have 2 weeks .(due 31st Jan)....."

So anyone got any suggestions on what to paint ?

Oh I forgot to mention that we have been using these painted units in "Story" games

Game 1
Round Robin Kill Team with objectives - I lost one game but won the next by capturing an objective so overall I won

Game 2

3 Way objective game where for each object captured you gain a USR that you can apply to a unit that you brought

My Force - HQ not Required 500pts

Platoon Command with 2 meltas - Compulsory as they were a painted challange unit

Special Weapons Team with plasma guns - unpainted support

Two infantry platoons - unpainted support

Commissar upgrade for an infantry platoon - Compulsory challange unit

2 Armoured Sentinals - Compulsory challange unit

Win for the imperials again I held two objectives my own and the Tau players thanks to a couragous charge from my platoon command. I assigned my special weapons team Stealth and my Sentinals Scout.

I'll post better battle reports and a pic with the next games.

Ok. So challenge 6 was set and due in for the 31/01/12 I had to think hard on what unit to paint up next. As this unit was going to be a vital objective to the enermy I decided to go with something hardand would draw attention to itself on the battle field in its own right. With this in mind I decided to go with the Lemam Russ Executioner.I tried out a new technique with the dirt on the tracks and side armour. Tell me what you think.

Game 3

The task master came up with a great challange for this game. It was a 3 way battle with each of us claiming one large piece of scenery in our deployment as a base and a landing pad in the center of the board the odjective of the game was to be holding the pad at the end of the game to receive a bonus in the next game. All infantry had the without number rule and all reserves were called in on a 4+ but for each turn that we held the objective reduced that by 1.

My force

Commissar Lord - Painted

Platoon cmd with medic, vox and melta guns. -Painted
Infantry squad with vox and grenade launcher x2
Special weapons team with plasma guns (stealth usr)
Heavy weapons team with lascannons

Veteran squad with melta guns

Valkyrie gunship - Painted

Sentinals - Painted

Hellhound - Painted

I put my sentinals and special weapons team on my left flank where the Grey Knights were deploying. I put the hellhound on the rigth to face the Tau under cover of my lascannon hvy weapons. My platoon was all grouped to gether in the center ready to attack ghe objective. The idea being that the my flanking units would cut downany troops trying to cross the ground to the objective leaving my troops an easy ride to the pad.
This worked to a degree as within my first two turns on wason theobjective and my flanking plasma units with the help Of my valkyrie and vet squad managed to wipe out half the grey knight army before they even began to move towards the objective.
Despite being immobilised in his first movement he still had the range to cause havoc on any of the kroot or firewarriors
trying to make a dash for it. Although I managed to hold on to the objective for the first few turns I could not weather the sheer amount of fire power directed at my troops from both sides allowing the Grey Knights to sit a squad of termies on thepad that proved impossible to shift.

Game 4 is tomorrow Tau and Guard v Grey Knights 3000 points.

Challenge 7 was to paint 250 points worth of troopsI went with 2 vet squads one with 3 plasma guns and one with 3 meltas. I dont have any picks yet but adding these too my existing painted stuff I now have a legal painted force.

Im going for a airbourne /mech list this is my plan

Cadian 51st Air Assualt Regiment

Stracken and Command Squad with vox, medic, standard and 2 body guards
Vendetta

Vet Squad with plasma
Valkyrie

Vet Squad with meltas
Valkyrie

Vulture

Cadian Armoured Regiment

Company Command Squad with meltas, master of ordenance and officer of the fleet
Chimera

Vet with meltas and ML
Chimera

Vet with grenades launcher and missile launcher

Vets with flamers and missile launchers

Leman russ squadron
Exicutioner
Battle tank
Vanquisher

Hellhound

Sentinals

This is mainly based on what models I have at the moment, iknow flamers and grenade launchers arnt worth it on the vets but im out of specials at the moment.
I plan to add more tanks

So no more challenges at the mo its a free for all and I have been busy tonight.

Undercoated my 2 chimeras

I also decided that a vendetta would be a great addition to my airborne so set about converting one of my valkyries. I started buy making the front twin linked lascannon from 2 valk ones

For the under wing lascannons I used 2 lascannons from the heavy weapons team sprue trimmed them and stuck them together. I also converted the little powepack so that it connects the gun to the wing.

After that I decided that I want a cadian version or commander stracken and ive built him acc squad

l

All now undercoated to paint
