Hello Dakkanites,

I'm looking at getting into Fantasy but I haven't played in 4 or 5 editions, I wanted to know what a few of the more popular competitive armies so I can have an idea what to build against. I've been looking at playing daemons as they can be duel purposed into 40k, but I really haven't decided on anything.

Runnin up on ya.

Empire, Skaven, and I think Daemons of Chaos is still fairly strong (who wouldn't want an army that every model has a 5+ ward save?)

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

Wood elves, a good WE player is one of the best generals ever, and moving the terrain is just broken, especially in the new expansion where the WE lore and the lore of life can create masses of trees for you scantily clad elves to hunt in while moving the trees so his (your enemy's) cavalry and ranged are weakened, oh, and then you have the living trees....

He is right. If you are good with Wood Elves, you are an amazing player.

there was a thread asking for the best fantasy army, read for yourself

Plus, the ability to move the terrain, that can't seriously fek up an enemy's game plan

I have already judged you, good sir, and found you lacking scantly clad tree hugger's,
therefore, you are not worthy enough to judge me, who has some of the scantly clad tree hugger's.

Currently you're looking at fewer infantry blocks but with bigger numbers in them for either using unmodified leadership rolls for break tests, or extra attacks from a third rank. Also everyone wants the highest casting cost spell of their lore which nukes the opponents army (in general) and hence everyone brings a level 4 caster to the table usually. Cavalry has started to take a backseat as charges of heavy cavalry no longer hits and doesn't get hit back forcing break tests.
Ofcourse this is a generalisation and theres a fair few inventive players out there still.
