What would you think about combining them into a single Forest Realm style army?

If someone wanted to do that for casual play in your group, would you let him?

What would you think if GW announced they were doing that for the inevitable update they're due?

Most importantly, would this fix the problems that plague them?

Combining two different armies is always a bad idea. GW will never support that because of balancing problems (see Dogs of War).
And Bretonnia is not a forest army, imagine a Knight charge in a dense forest.

The Green Knights laughs at your forest and charges through it.

It would certainly make for interesting combos, but I don't think it would be overpowered.

For casual fun and games I don't see why you wouldn't do it.

But from an official standpoint, not going to happen because the lore is just too different. I mean, how are you going to explain hyper-territorial elves merging with a feudal society?

We played a 3000 point game of Bretts and WE vs. VC and WOC.

Aside from the BloodKnight Deathstar, we pretty much rampaged over them.

On a serious note, the two combine quite well, especially if you build your lists with the other army in mind. Bretts take Trebs and Knights, WE take archers and maneuver control. WE maneuvers the other side into a position where the Bretts can smash them with a multi-charge, then shoot the leftovers down for the points.
